  1. They have built a basic and functional zombie system that is in need of improvement and optimization. No question about any of that. However, there are a lot of other basic systems that aren't even in yet (hunting, vehicles, barricading, etc.) Basic functional versions of these things need to be put in place as well. Once all or most of the critical systems are in the game then the long road of improvement and optimization of them can begin. Zombies aren't done; they are basic placeholders that will be worked on in the future when the time is right.

    Experimental, is it worth it?

I tried out experimental for the first time last night and it was a lootless wasteland! :D Looted the outskirts of Berezino, then went to Dubrovka. Every building had been looted thoroughly. I ran around for an hour and found one can of tuna someone had missed and a motorcycle helmet. The good news was all the zeds pretty much had been killed. However this does raise the concern that if zombie respawn comes in before loot respawn these servers are going to be brutal! All the zeds and no loot, heehee going to be doing a lot of running! :D
  3. It sounded like all would be coming fairly close together. Dean was not specific, but it sounded as though barricading system was maybe more complex work and they wanted to get that done first...I can tell you that Dean was impatient to get hunting, fishing, and cooking implemented as well.
  4. Dean said they were working on a lot of new character model heads so I'd expect there to be options in character customization with facial hair. Just not going to have the dynamic beards that, let's be honest, we true DayZ fanatics really want.
  5. Dean wasn't super specific and I believe this is because they haven't decided what to do if anything at all. This was under consideration. And the only specific history-related character attribute Dean mentioned was "maybe something like..." your character has bloody hands/clothes after searching a dead body. Which would be a plausible result from searching a dead body you hacked with an ax or shot with a gun. He also said absolutely said the word "temporarily" in reference to it. He was very vague and it was clear there was no decisions had been made or real work had been done on it. It was an idea being kicked around.
  6. Took them a good while to figure out a solution to the audio problems. After that it was okay.
  7. Dean admitted the melee system was "very clunky" but making it better he said was "very difficult" due to various limitations. He said that he's "content" with the current melee system as long as they continue to be able to make significant improvements to the medical system.

    Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)

From Rocket yesterday: Stable is still a couple of weeks away. We want to avoid the issues that we have been introducing by not adequately testing the experimental builds. Much of what is currently in Experimental is very experimental, we're legitimately testing out some big changes to some core systems to see how they go. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ycwhr/now_that_the_changelogg_is_out/
  15. I like the entrepreneurial spirit of this. Not everyone may agree, but I'm fine with trading/services like this from the community.

    Cannibalism

Cannibalism is a reasonable scenario for the post-apocalyptic world. If people are starving to death it would happen. I'm not sure the game needs it, but it's plausible.
  17. I've typically stuck to low-pop as a fresh spawn worrying busy servers would be loot-less without loot re-spawning. However, even in higher-pop servers I find reasonable amounts of loot, so I'm assuming server restarts refresh the loot spawns. Is this correct and if so, do you all find that popular/busy servers are restarted reasonably often (every few days perhaps) so loot is available?
  18. Other than as a fresh-spawn, do you ever try and make contact with other players (strangers) in your server when you don't have to? If so, what do you do to make contact without exposing yourself too much in case they are of the KOS/bandit persuasion? As an example, I was looting the Lumber Mill/Berezino area and heard someone on the other side of town shooting occasionally (pretty obviously killing zeds - not a firefight). Now this is a very long spread out collection of buildings and I really had no idea how close the shots were...they sounded close enough to be able to see another player, but I'm not sure.My first reaction is to take cover and be ready to ambush them. I'm not a KOS player, but I am well kitted and don't want to take unnecessary risks with other players I don't know. I also didn't want to just hightail it out of town (making my presence known) in case there was more than one in the other's group. So I hunkered down on the fringe of the town with a good view of my surroundings and waited for a few minutes. The other player never appeared, but it's an interesting situation for us that don't want to KOS. Other than KOS or just letting them pass without doing anything, what would you have done to make contact with the other player had they appeared and how would you have handled the encounter if they wanted to trade or team-up? I'm fairly new to DayZ so I thought it would be interesting to get feedback from the veterans in the community.
  19. Not only is this Alpha you're playing on the experimental branch...this is the last place for attachment to your character or grear...
  20. Sure look like you're hitting him.
  21. I find it more noticeable the more people in the server.

    The SOLUTION for KOS!

Nothing wrong with being realistic and taking a break. Level-headed way to handle your reasonable frustrations. Kudos to you good sir.
  23. I like this idea as long as it's optional to play whatever phase you want (no strict game-based requirements...of course private servers can do as they please in this regard). Something like this would add depth to the experience.

    Inventory Rearrangement

Yes and it's annoying. At least items typically stay in the storage you put them in...but it's irritating to play backpack tetris every time I log on.

Anyone know what this means: Medical: Melee damage application system changed to better balanceDoes this mean the damage values of the various melee weapons remain unchanged but what damage type and how damage is applied to the target has been updated?
