Why do the majority of players i encounter suck?
Lumeria replied to drjuanitor's topic in General Discussion
Yeah there are a lot of people who treat DayZ like a giant team death match arena and these people have KOS'd me on more than one occasion as the rip along the cost killing everything that moves. However while annoying, especially when fully geared You just have to move on from it. If you can't straight away just remember eventually odds dictate they will one day be shot and killed, perhaps in a similar manner as they killed you, and laugh at that. I totally agree KOS, especially in an asshole manner is terrible, but nothing can be done. I am someone who says DayZ should cater to as many play styles as possible, while still being a good DAYZ game, so I have to take the good play styles and the bad, regardless of my feelings about it. I am sure when the game is finished, if it it, you'll be able to go on a server that caters more to socialisation rather than PVP KOS playstyles. -
People are always going to disagree on play style especially on sandbox games such as DayZ, but the good thing is you don't have to listen to them. If you want to PVP or KOS or just hunt go ahead nothing is stopping you from playing that way. While people may disagree with your playstyle the beauty about a stand box game is that you can play that way as it offers the options to do so, regardless of what someone say just play the way that is most fun for you. About people arguing, I have no issue with this. If people wanna argue about whose playstyle is better they can go ahead I will not stop them, and I probably won't get involved. What I do have an issue with is when people try to get the game changed to fit their play style. Granted the dev's will likely never listen to them it annoys me when people just want to game to go the way they want and not where it should go. Dayz should be true to itself and become what was Envisioned with its creation. It shouldn't bow to the will of people who want it to play a certain way. It shouldn't become a MilSim just because some people play like it is nor should it become an team death match game just because people PVP. Dayz should cater to those who want to play Dayz and the various play styles that entails.

I have no issues with realism is Dayz and what people have said so far in this thread are good realistic aspects that I would not mind to see in the game. However what. I don't want to see is DayZ reach a point where it is so obsessed with realism is it an unfun mess and only the most hardcore MilSim players are still even playing. I want the game to be immersive, but at the same time still a game. I have no problem with the current level of realism in DayZ at the moment. But if it gets to the point where I feel like I am playing a simulator I know I will quit as will many others.

When are we going to get gold spray paint cans?
Lumeria replied to PongoZ's topic in General Discussion
But how do you know what will be realistic in a zombie apolocalyse scenario? Your basing your idea of realism off of the modern military idea of doing things, but this is not ARMA, or any other military shooter, it is a game based on a zombie apocalypse. We don't know what will be realistic in a zombie apolocalyse scenario, so as far as we know, people will all be running around in bright pink clothes with cow boy hats in the middle of military bases while punching out zombies. Of course the above is unlikely to happen, but in an event like a zombie apocalypse, I think crazies will emerge, who will want golden guns, and pink clothes. It will be pretty traumatic to watch people being eaten alive, and realistically a couple people could go insane, or already insane people could escape from mental hospitals and do their thing in the new era of the zombie apocalypse. Don't sit there and complain about bright colours ruining your fun, because it is not realistic, as it is entirely possible this could happen in an actually zombie apocalypse. There are hundreds of reasons why people would want a golden gun or bright pink pants, and so I see it reasonable for it to be in the game. Of for some reason bright colours make it impossible for you to play, there are the ARMA 2/3 mods which will no doubt fit your tastes well. Just let people have fun, they want bright pink tops and pants let them have it and let them die a horrible horrible death as they try hiding in a forest. -

Lumeria replied to PongoZ's topic in General Discussion
Just let people have their fun. If someone wants to paint their gun gold, silver, bright pink let them. This is not real life, this is a game, there are no severe consequences for deciding to dress up in just underpants and a cow boy hat and running around in the middle of an airfield, other than dying and losing your hat. If you want to play seriously, go ahead, you payed for the game and have a right to play it as you choose. However, just because you want to play one way dosen't mean everyone else does. If someone wants a pink helmet let them have you, you don't need to have one. Besides wouldn't have all these differing colours increase realism? After all not all spray cans have just green in them. -
This patch is littertly game breaking.
Lumeria replied to Naberius (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I understand that due to it's Alpha stage that not all issues can be properly fixed, and that a bandage approach must be taken for some things until they can be fixed at a later stage. This does no mean we can't expect a quick at the very least bandage fix for issues which are game breaking for some if not all players. It would be terrible if you were a victim of a game breaking glitch that the devs could easily at least bandage fix because the game was in Alpha. The timer is pointless at the moment (excuse the terrible flow but this is a debate not an essay). It was a quick fix for an issue that at the moment doesn't mean anything especially if you look at it from your point of view. With servers constantly restarting, game crashes, terrible admins and a while host of other issues, this does more harm than good. I have heard more stories of people having terrible times with the timer then it actually stopping server hoppers. This features should be implemented at a later date, when it will have more impact. When your character could die from a glitch at any moment, it does not really matter anyway. Also at the moment, we have paid for a product which is essentially in limbo. We don't know if it will be finished, or the quality of that finished product. I am skeptical it will ever be completed, and the lack of communication from the devs as well as the infrequent patches from the devs, and the new similar games coming up make me even mores skeptical. Time will tell if I am wrong or not. -
Alright, I am finally concerned about the standalone
Lumeria replied to JimmyGate's topic in General Discussion
As someone who bought that game so I could play with a friend, I have always be sceptical of the Alpha. I have always believed it will not be completed or released in an unfinished state like battlefield was recently. With the lack of updates, Rocket leaving and my usually paranoia what it comes to games, I believe it will never be finished. I would love to be proved wrong, but at the moment it seems I am being proved right, at least in my view anyway. Time will tell how the Alpha will progress and where it will end up but I for one am not optimistic. -

Lumeria replied to Naberius (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think what a lot of people are missing here is that people have paid for this product. As such they have the right to expect a certain standard to come from the game. They payed for an Alpha and thus should expect an Alpha and all it's problems till it goes into beta stage, if it ever reaches that point. However people should be able to expect a certain standard from the developers even at an Alpha stage. They should expect as high quality updates as can be provided and quick fixes on issues which need fixing, such as those described by OP. If a bug cannot be fixed for whatever reason, the dev's should communicate as such in a clear manner, not leave people to figure it out for themselves. Honestly, the dev's are doing a pretty terrible job at communicating. I should not be forced to go to 5 different websites to discover what Rocket or another dev has said, it should all be in one place, what is easily accessible by anyone. They are also doing a pretty terrible jobs with these patches. Either they are broken, which can be expected in an Alpha, and take a while to fix or introduce pointless features at this stage, such as the timer when joining servers. -
"That female zombie is starting to look attractive"
Lumeria replied to Drake903's topic in General Discussion
Let's just hope you don't get bitten due to your love for the female zombies, also you better hope they don't look like my profile picture. -
I for one have never seen anyone outside of military bases, town next to these bases, or in towns were people spawn at, when I was inland. This is most likely due to the fact the most fun to be had for most people is on the coast. People just aren't bothered going inland ATM, there is no fun for most people in doing so.

I don't adding PVE will lessen the game in many way. As a former Minecraft admin, on a PVE only server, it actually added a lot. We created a fantastic community, with people, socialising and playing get her, building great objects without trying to kill each other to get resources etc. I understand that Minecraft and Dayz are not the same by any stretch of the imagination, but I think the same lesson still applies here. PVE in Dayz will be a good feature for those who want it. Will it lessen the game in anyway? No, after all there are tons of PVP and PVE servers on Minecraft and in no way was the game though less of as a result. It is a possibility there will be less PVP servers, but once mods are introduced the same will happen anyway when it comes to modded content over vanilla.

I know I am going to get bombarded with comments which tell me I am wrong, but I don't care. I think this is a terrible, and mostly pointless idea. Now that I have said that I will explain as to why from my perspective, as a player who never played the mod and has only ever played the SA version of Dayz. Firstly, this kind of feature will turn people away from buying the SA once implemented or if they hear about it, now I cannot say how many will be turned away but no doubt there will be at least one. In fairness, this could also attract people, but how many again it can not be said, could be one or a million. Why could it turn people away you ask? Well, from my perspective, I didn't buy Dayz to work out physics. I am here to play a game and not work out equations, so I can snipe from a distance. Again, in fairness there are ideas in this thread which will help eliminate this (the arrow showing the wind idea) but still even with this implemented, many people will have difficulty hitting things fro a distance, which will turn them away from the game. Secondly, if this were implemented, it would make The SA like a realistic military shooter, not the zombie survival game it is suppose to be. Now don't get me wrong, there should be realism to a point in the SA, after all it is suppose to be survival, so realism is to be expected. I have for the most part agreed with the survival features implemented thus far (I am a little iffy about heart attacks, but I don't dwell on it at all), but I think this is going a little over board with realism. It is all well and good in a military shooter, but in the SA it will feel more like a frustrating mechanic than anything else, rather than something that adds to the game. This mechanic would fit more with ARMA than the SA in my opinion. On a final note, this will give an ad tangle to certain kinds of players over others, which is something which should not occur.mThise who play games with these type of mechanics, will already be well educated in how to correctly sniper/ shoot when this mechanic is implemented. Those like me, who aren't into those types of game for whatever reason, it will be more difficult,to pick up. Now you might say that I should practice, and if this is implemented, I will have to if I want to snipe at all, but I would feel like I was being forced into something I want no part in. I have no problem with more realistic guns, but I don't want feel like I am firing real guns, I still want to feel like I am in a game, where things while challenging, aren't exactly based on real life. This is my main argument why I disagree with this feature. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me, but please don't flame me or anything. I am disagreeing with your opinion that is all, and it looks like this feature is going in regardless of what's I say.

Anyone else hide weapons to prevent others from looting them?
Lumeria replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
Why would the Dev's need to test this type of play style at all? In Essence what this guy is taking items and moving them. What are the Dev's going to do? Ban people from dropping more than one item every 5 minutes? While as you say, Experimental can be used as a way to test play styles and their impact on the game, as well as changes to the game to accommodate the playstyle if needed but, that it is not it's main purpose.By far it's main purpose is to test the patches before they go onto Stable, so bugs can be rooted out early by those who play on the experimental servers. Stable is also used to find bugs as well as a test to see if the update can stand up with many more people playing on that update. While experimental is not just for testing, after all people do play on there, what is wrong with OP's actions is not his tactics, or his play style, but the fact he restricts access to weapons people MAY use to test for bugs, glitches etc on experimental servers. Again I would not care if he did it on stable, but the problem is that his playstyle is restricting the ability for others to test on servers which are mostly for testing. Yes I have no doubt that the tactic will one day work for him, but at the moment, it mostly restricts testing and nothing more.I am not going to ask him to stop but to be mindful of the type of servers he is on, especially with so few experimental servers. The other main problem in have with OP's tactic is that in the long run, it will become less useful. When're respawning loot is added, it will be more difficult for this tactic to be used effectively, of course this will depend on the item respawning rate. At the moment the tactic will work fairly well depending in the time he does it, so basically the closer to just after server restart the better. Also for some elaboration, I misspoke when I called you a jerk, I didn't mean you specifically, just the way you replied. Your tone was fairly condescending with no acknowledgement of my points which didn't agree with your views. I attempted to do the opposite in my last post and this one, where I feel I did a better job. I may not do this well, but at least I try, when you really don't, from what I have noticed, though I may be wrong, and if I do feel free to call me out. -
Barricading on a hive server architecture.
Lumeria replied to frozenjaws's topic in General Discussion
Seems like a problem to me. It would suck if you could just use servers to hop into peoples bases. Other are going to have to find a way to stop this happening, or else base building will be pointless. Perhaps if you put a door on the structure, no one can log in inside except those who access the door? Just a thought. -

Lumeria replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
Firstly, relax your taking this way way too seriously, there is no need to get this angry over my opinion, you can disagree with me if you feel like it, but being a jerk won't solve anything. Also before nit picking my opinion at least acknowledge were I had a good point, like I will do now. Yes while it can be a smart tactic it depends where and when it is used. Is it smart after a server reset on Stable? Yes. Is it smart at any time on experimental? No.I will admit, I was maybe a little apprehensive about this guys actions when I originally posted, but I now see what part of him doing this bugs me so much. The fact he does it in experimental. I won't care if he did it on the stable branch, but by doing this on servers designed for testing much more so than the Stable branch, is just going to slow down testing in the long run. I have no issue with him playing in experimental, but he shouldn't be restricting other access to weapons , especially because of the lack of experimental servers and that these weapons may be needed for testing. He should play on Stable Branch if he wants to use this tactic, not on a server for testing.
