Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Interesting, didn't know that. Thanks for the info. So that is as much of a paradox as the 'kick-kill' with Admins needing that power, but it being open to abuse. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Back to the original topic - as was mentioned by another poster, putting a 5 minute delay on restarts would prevent the 'restart server to prevent death' form of admin abuse, and is something server hosting companies need to implement. It would also be the equivalent of the anti-hop/anti-ghost cooldown timer non-admin players have imposed on them currently. The 'kick and kill' form of admin cheating is a by-product of the logout timer though. Now how to solve that? -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Thread has been derailed now, but I hope SoloPopo that your original question got answered. I think that people, myself included, are getting bothered about something that will soon enough be resolved with this whole server-hopping issue - once loot respawn and loot-spawn randomisation gets implemented it won't be such a 'problem' and will hopefully encourage players to stick around on a server. In the meantime though, don't take your server management to the Nth-degree, really not worth getting so worried about - getting attached to your gear is a bit pointless when you can spend hours gearing only to fall off a ladder/through a wall and lose it anyway. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Yep, given time a lot of aspects will (hopefully) improve. Like the displaying of in-game times in the server list, which came along after I started shelling out for a server to get around in the first place! I think that they should actually change that to just a day/night icon personally, as this would help prevent server hopping by not giving an indication that the server had just restarted. I'm just an inquisitive type person and like figuring out the mechanics of things, that's how I ended up making my observations, maybe I'm a bit odd but that gives me as much entertainment as playing the game if I'm in that mood, but we are paying to playtest at the moment so perhaps it's no bad thing. Sorry for my edits that messed your post up earlier, but typing on my phone and it loves to auto-correct things without me noticing. -

No, I don't (and frankly can't be arsed) to do that. But it's my observation. Best thing really to come will be respawning loot so I don 'to even have to bother fiddling with any controls at all! Like I said previously I only even bothered to pay for hosting so I could play in perpetual daylight! :) only in this thread to share my experience and answer some questions people had. -
Anything for a bit more variety really. I'm sure it will come in time. But Police gear would be a nice - and logical - start.

This. It's a game, enjoy it.

Restart server, log in and watch player list. First 10 mins massive turnover of players (After that things slow down). Actually occurs around the start of every hour (server hoppers know that most hosting companies only allow you to set the 'custom time' to a specific hour). Not trying to argue but that's how it's done. Edit for punctuation -

I haven't gone this far, but agree that a looted server is less appealing to 'normal' players who want want to stay around for a few hours (and hopefully come back to my server next time). -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Hi dude. I'm not arguing or anything, no worries. Just posting for discussions sake. This is the first game I've paid to host a server on, so my experience in this area is based on a couple of months with one hosting company. It seems though, from what I've read on this forum, that the facilities provided to Admins vary between hosting companies. In game, the facilities are very limited at present. But the 'control panel' we have access to via browser or whatever does appear to vary in terms of controls depending on who you pay your money to: restart schedules, specific time setting, right down to the basics of starting and stopping etc. makes for interesting discussion and hopefully enlightens us all, admins and users alike. Personally, my reason for hosting was to have a reliable, reasonably local (better ping) server where I could play in perpetual daylight (yes I'm a massive pussy). Since then, things like the in-game time have been added to the server list which makes that last reason moot - but - I have made in-game friends who I now play with on this server, so I continue to pay for it. I don't farm it because end-game gears just made me reclusive, I enjoy the social aspects of the game and hiding got boring fast. -

Question is though, how frequently does the server report to the hive? Every one second? Every thirty seconds? Every 60 seconds? I don't know the answer, but would guess there is a degree of latency. Interrupt server before it updates your death to the hive and bingo, you never died? -

Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
I'm just updating this as, having read in other threads, an admin can 'kick' a player then kill the 'logging out' mannequin that remains. So it is open to exploits without the need for hacks or whatever. Didn't realise that. So if you get kicked and relog to find yourself on the coast as fresh spawn, well you probably just killed a badmin. -
Post your clever joke names for DayZ!

Bubbled Luff replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Sorry dude, but if either of the psychologists you have been to see had been given the opportunity to review this thread, their reports may have been somewhat different. Not trying to troll you here, but maybe take the time to re-read your posts ITT. I don't claim to have any kind of psych training or insight, but honestly, you come across just a wee bit manic. -
Why would military weaponry be rare in a region with several military bases following a zombie apocalypse where said military has presumably fought it's last stand and been overrun? I would be expecting to find piles of the stuff, dropped by the dead and fleeing. I thought when buying into 'DayZ standalone' I would be getting a standalone version of the mod, as in doesn't require ArmA installed to play it. Some stuff added, sure, but changing the core of the mod and what made it fun/popular - no. Otherwise call it something else?

Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Bubbled Luff replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
My post was meant more as an answer to Dunxel's concerns that said Admin had powers to wipe his character somehow, which I don't think is possible. Unless there are 'Admin hax' available too now. In your case it is very likely 'Admin abuse'. It is certainly possible for an Admin to restart their server before entering a high value loot area, and low users attracts sever hoppers who will also be in a high value loot area. Paths may well cross. Simply put, if there are just the two of you there and server restarts after one dies, it was probably the Admin restarting the server. BUT servers do sometimes misbehave randomly and require restarting. -
Killed upon connecting to server
Bubbled Luff replied to maverickfftytwo's topic in General Discussion
You may be unlucky with your inexperience there, and have inadvertently logged out in one of the high value loot buildings which are always going to be checked regularly. -

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing beyond a 'kick' available to admins right now. -

Now that BEC is implemented by some hosts you can set any time (hour+min) for a restart -SNIP-Now I can have the server start point at 'odd' times I don't see the same traffic pattern. Edited to prevent giving up my anti-hopper strategy ;) -
The Current Combat Log System Dosen't Work
Bubbled Luff replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
The current system works for the greater part; if timer was increased to 1 minute I'd like it to cut to a 3rd person cinematic cam for the duration of the countdown, in order that 1) loggers are forced to witness their grisly fate and 2) non-combat disconnects can be sure they haven't been zombied or stalked, character will be there fit and well next time you login. -
I have a Magnum (loaded) in my backpack, so this is what causes that? Interesting, will drop it and relog and see if it goes. Thanks

And the loud static burst which often comes with it is for pinpointing direction, just like modern ambulance sirens...
