I didn't even know this was a thing until i joined these forums.

The first time i heard gunshots in this game i cowered in the top corner of a building facing the wall for about 10 minutes. I even heard someone moving around downstairs, for all i know they saw me and backed off.

I seem to find more sks rifles and ammo than i find food at the moment. The world is littered with them. :(

I think i read somewhere that some of the animals are currently making zombie sounds, so your friend might just be hearing a rabbit or a hawk.

Those guys don't sound like the type of bandits ive been running into, and they're not the ones camping out with a sniper and writing stories about murdering the first people they see. :)

Just see it as an experience and move on. The first time i lost a character that actually had decent loot, i almost felt like someone had set me free. I was too concerned about losing my gear to enjoy the game. Since then i've learnt that its fairly easy to hoard loot and hide in the wilderness, but its not really that fun at this stage in the game. The best thing to do is to get back out there and explore.
