This! My hunting gear is rain proof. It isn't like wear an oil skin, but I can be out in the rain in cold winds and be quite happy. Even when I'm out in the rain IRL, even heavy rain I don't often use rain coats, or catch hypothermia. What I do do is carry a rain jacket which I throw over whatever I'm wearing for protection from the cold, or my jacket is already rain proof. My rain coat folds up smaller than the ones in DayZ seem to do, but then my 1911 isn't as big as a first aid kit or Pelican case either. I'd prefer some less rain effects. If you are running from house to house in DayZ, even if you do it a bunch of times you shouldn't end up with hypothermia. If you are out overnight in the rain in jeans and a Tshirt, then sure. KBK

Looking at patch .58 In General, What has changed?!
Kayback replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
Living in the ass end of Africa I only have the choice of half a dozen servers, and they aren't populated at times I get to play. Besides if I want to play a FPS I'll go play one. KBK -
So I've been trolling the wrong shoreline. Great. But yeah, reality and DayZ are very inconsistent. Nets aren't the only thing to build ghillie suits out of.

Looking at patch .58 In General, What has changed?!
Kayback replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
I get what you are saying too, but honestly there is no challenge to the game any more if there is no one else online. While zombies have never been too much of a worry, except the underground or never ending horde of them, there still was an element. Currently if I'm on a low pop server I literally just run into town, ransack the place and leave without a care in the world. -
Are they really scarce? I haven't played much since the update, mostly just getting food and water near the coast and moving to meet up with clan mates. I assumed the Zed's had been killed by other players and I'd seen one or two. Since then I've moved inland and I don't even carry a weapon any more when I go into towns. Sure I have one but it isn't deployed. Was in Novy Sobor (I think) and when I hadn't seen any zombie in ages I emptied my SMG into the air on full auto and waited for 5 minutes, nothing. No zombies, no attack. Why are they so scarce?
-
Because the zombie I was shooting at was at less than 100m. An MP5, heck most SMG's should be able to do that easy peasy with irons, especially easily with a magnified optic on it. 100m isn't very far in terms of ballistics. I can make man sized hits with a pistol at 75m. For snuffing out zombies a pistol caliber, suppressed carbine should work wonders. And it does. When it works. Happened again last night. About 80m, first round hit high and right, next two were center mass. I wouldn't even mind if you had to add crazy Kentucky Windage for the 9mm rounds, but at 100m everything should be low, not high. It also makes no logical sense that 1 round is off and the others are spot on. With a 400m zero on an AKM shooting 7.62x39mm M43 or equivalent you'd only be ~21" high max at ~250m. True a 5.45x39mm would only run you 15" high but it still wouldn't be 36" for the AKM

Meh. Call it easy mode if you like I just find it more useful. Because there is a lack of tactile feedback from turning I like the ability to know when I've turned a certain amount, like I would IRL. If you don't like it, don't use it. You don't NEED to pick one up, or put it in your toolbar..... KBK

I have first round accuracy issues with an MP5 and an ACOG. My first round invariably hits about 3 feet high and right of the target. Low pings, stable shooting platform, not winded after sprinting. KBK

Inventory buttons stopped working
Kayback replied to Mookie (original)'s topic in General Discussion
Huh thanks for the tip. Whenever the toolbar stops working i just log off and on again. -
I dunno though. IRL I can tell my way well enough for basic DF route finding. In DayZ my character could be looking anywhere and I can't tell. Hell even the sun doesn't (Didn't last time I checked) work correctly. I like the little compass in the bottom. It is only on screen when you have your mini too bar up. If you let it fade away you can pretend it isn't there. Or close the cover. KBK

Self defense is not murder, murder is murder. Killing someone to stop them murdering you is self defense. My plant to kill another human being who wants to kill me is wrong? Nice logic. My sister in law was raped in Europe (Actually the UK, but who is getting facts right, amIright?) Fun place to be. Must be nice to know you can rape people without worrying about them standing up for themselves. Oh, and I don't live in the USA either. I still know people in the UK, France and a couple in Sweden who carry multi-tools.... -
In sheds. Mostly beat to crap. The compass moving in your quicktool bar, is that new or did I just never notice it before? KBK

I've spent the last couple of games opening every can I come across, even ones I don't need. Both to let people know there is someone else around and we aren't all asshats and to help out people who may not have a can opener. But am I inadvertently poisoning other players? KBK

Military barrack, have they become 'minor' loot building
Kayback replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Huh, look at that. Thanks for the tip. I thought you couldn't go in those so I never tried. Is it a new building? -
I've seen more deer than I've seen zombies. Since .57 I've only killed about 4 zombies but have seen quite a few deer. Mostly near Mogilevka and Berezino. Haven't been equipped to skin or cook them when I've seen them so have not interacted with them.

Just showing that different people carry different stuff, it isn't everyone who carries a rag and a chemlight. You apparently washed up on the shores of a deserted island during a zombie apocalypse, it is a fair bet your character would have some survival gear on them but everyone has identical spawn gear? No. Even if you don't want to go the can opener route I know plenty of people, white and blue collar, who carry Swiss Army knives or even Leatherman or such multi tools around with them. Hell 5 minutes with a can and a piece of concrete and you can open it. Oh and why not carry a gun IRL? What is your plan if you are the victim of a violent attack? Give in? Die? Run away and hope the people with guns get there in time to protect you? I don't know where you live but I'm willing to bet violent crime still happens there, even if not on a large scale. As a responsible, law abiding citizen why should one not be prepared and equipped to defend themselves and their loved ones if they need to? It happens that I live in a country and city where the violent crime is pretty high. It is silly not to be prepared. -
I can honestly say I've never found anything by that BMP. I've only been there once and it was bare so have not stopped by it again.

I found the coastal towns almost devoid of any useful items after the reset. I assumed it was just people clearing stuff out as they respawned. I have noticed a distinct lack of items even when moving inland, until you find that one building with everything in it. Generally police stations or those mini police stations with barred windows and a porch with all the gear you could want. Some houses, specifically the one with the stairway into the loft, always has loads of jackets. Dunno why this is but I've been finding better loot in 1)police stations 2) vehicles 3)barns.
-
I know it is my own fault for not emptying my items before changing my pants, but I clicked and dragged a new pair of pants onto my character screen and the pants I was wearing, the bandages, the 30 5.45x39mm and most importantly my compass vanished. Poof. No more in the world. Is there any way to get them back or do I just need to look for a new compass? The rest I don't really care about. KBK

Gear vanishing if dragging new item to inventory
Kayback replied to Kayback's topic in General Discussion
Thanks I tried those, it was in the school on the 2nd floor so I went up, down and all around including the roof. I'm used to things moving floors but this time they were gone. C'est la vie. KBK -

What is the loot score house which you can't enter but has a porch which spawns epic .mil gear? Found vests, guns, mags, RIS systems, ACOGs and clothes (Although I don't think military clothes). -
How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
Kayback replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
I love 1pp but the blinding headaches and nausea limit my HC/Veteran/1PP play time to about 30 minutes. I've only ever felt this bad once before, on a budget bin FPS with cowboy guns. I've tried all different FOV and settings but it still messes me up. I enjoy the ability in DayZ to go 1PP when you need to but if I was forced to play that way? New game time. -

I constantly have a can opener in my wallet, at least one knife and a flashlight on me and normally a gun and 2 mags and a TQ as well. Things that wouldn't survive being washed up on a shore, probably my cell phone. Incidentally my EDC pistol has a pistol light on it as well. I find it rather funny that the guy in DAYZ spawns with a chemlight or a flashlight and nothing else. True a tourniquet may not be useful for most things in DayZ and spawning everyone with a pistol could make things sporty but the fact he has what amounts to nothing is a little silly. KBK
