You can even get a good look around some buildings that have barely any walls and floor left, check out the Urb-Ex stuff for example, some of the wrecks you can access with not much more than a torch and a bit of bravery is quite surprising! Add in a harness, a rope and some basic knowledge and they get very interesting.

    Well he could always have just been bored waiting for his friend and without his buddies peer pressure he thought he'd have a go at playing a style he doesn't normally get to do with his friends and most random players? Everyone has their own preferred playstyle, doesn't mean that you wouldn't occasionally switch that style if your in a different mood or environment. Common sense if you think about it. Also its a matter of content/'endgame', for a lot of players, once you have the kit of half decent gun, meds + vehicle in that mindset you've 'WON' at DayZ, (NB: I'm talking about a common mindset, not my own.) after that point they revert to DeathMatch and Griefing mode. Also common in this mindset combined with the lack of endgame: Why bother searching the map for food when you can park a car in the middle of a road and murder anyone that goes within 20 metres of it? If in real life they are going to sit on their ass waiting for some guy to deliver them pizzas why would these people not play DayZ the same and wait for some poor fucker to bring them some beans and something to shoot? DayZ has mutated, its not hard to get comfortably geared and due to that bored these days. plus you mess up and pull a horde or get shot by another player that wants to try out their new hand cannon (let face it you don't really need a gun for the zeds, so what else are they there for? haha) they can just die and respawn. DayZ was hardcore, but the community got hold of it and broke it.

    GTA SA had some depth, the rest of the series hasn't even half the content of it. If Rockstar can up their game for the next one it should be interesting. Still doesn't change the fact that the 'Sandbox' term is just a marketing term for a game world thats remotely 'open'. GTa Sa was released 2004? Thought it was earlier than that.

    I'd agree that Arma 2 is one of the 'purest' sandbox games, the mission editor, mods etc shows that you have some true input in shaping your experiences ingame. I'm taking about things like GTA and sadly DayZmod. You can change vehicle and weapon, shoot some AIs or other players.. Thats about it. Before the 'imagination' crowd storm in, you can wonder around and have a few limited actions, but thats not enough tools to make it sandbox. Thats just 'freeroam'. Arma 2, Garysmod, Fallout on PC with mods, thats Sandbox.

    Sandbox: A term attached to a game suggesting it has a vast game world to explore and manipulate, although in reality, it often has very limited variation and restricted options. Most games attempt to claim the tag 'Sandbox' when they really mean an open (although limited) game world and a choice of things like weapons and little else, hoping that the freedom to move aimlessly around a map with little content will create the illusion of depth. Also fans of the title will venomously defend the 'Sandbox' nature despite there being very little sand in the box.

Just thinking about it, and if the 'end-game'/'top-tier' (both terms make me cringe) gear is this mil grade kit, isn't that encouraging you to use it the same way your just to using it on games? to kill over players? I'm just suggesting theres a mindset with it.. In most FPS we are used to, when given a new big gun, the first thing the average player thinks is "I want to see the holes it makes in people." & because of the common FPS game those people are other players, we are pushed towards opening fire on them. Add in the paranoia that comes in DayZ and we got a lethal mix of that mindset and the obtain/defend mindset. Just wondering as i've watched the forum and youtube change from mostly groups of Park Rangers sharing Mak rounds and beans to full Ghillie Bush Wookie .50Cal kill squads and 4 NVGs for every man woman and child. Of course this is hugely effected by dupes and hacks but isn't it a bit nuts? If DayZ is survival not mil-themed FPS why is there all this Mil-grade kit about? I'm aware of ARMAs setting, etc. but that aside and looking at it in the context of Dayz standalone, wouldn't it play better if it didn't have all the powerful mil-grade guns in it? Also if we change the gear set from Shit guns - Ok Guns - Mil grade Guns - Top Mil grade Guns to just Shit guns - Ok guns would that effect peoples desire to steal and protect gear as much?

    Dying and the Consequences-SA

    Well, hasn't rocket stated that each item will have its own ID number these days? Simple solution, Give each and every player a unique tag as well, equipment IDs linked to any tag gets remembered by the server, upon death the server removes those equip ID from that players 'world'. that way the server can display items for looters but bar players from re-gearing from their own corpse. You could even go uber-harsh and totally bar those items from that player, i.e a players mate collects their stuff for their dead buddy, drops a gun for the respawn but all the respawn sees is a pile of empty cans instead. But tbh thats properly too over the top.

    Nope. Free mod would be free. Wish people would stop thinking they have paid for a free add on. Its like getting given a free coffee percolator then complaining you need a stove to use it. You bought a stove for its main purpose, i.e cooking, getting a cup of joe with your fry up is just a bonus, not the main show.

    'Sticky cover' is a horrible clunky system. Think GTA etc, do you really want to get stuck to a wall when the control fails? or have to dread doors as the almost impassable objects they become? or have a turning circle that makes a double-decker bus seem graceful?

  13. Sorry but thats fucking stupid. Surely you'd check the bladehead when you found it, if its blunt you wouldn't pick it up. Common sense really. Its idiotic that a hatchet may occasionally be 'blunt' on some strokes and fine on others, its the same bloody hatchet.

    Balancing blood bag system

    Main problem is storage. Blood needs refrigeration or it spoils, carrying around a bloodbag in your satchel means you'd be the proud owner of basically a scab. Simply put, bloodbags should have a very short 'shelf life' when removed from storage in the hospitals, add in direct transfusions maybe, as it would be fairly cool to have to make the decision to help your mate at the cost of your own health. If Rocket ever makes the infection stuff hes mentioned sour bloodbags would be useful for making that more dynamic.

  21. The number of community owned servers has always heavily outweighed the 'official' servers since very early on in the Mod history. DayZ mod will be around for a while, and will quite possibly end up being the DayZ StandAlones biggest competitor.

    DE 901 - Admin hacker?

    Well lets be fair. Public server admins have their hands tied and can't hack/teleport etc etc, as these are scripts and aren't in the Admins 'toolkit' Basically Public admins have pretty much NO tools to actually carry out any administration. Private servers have custom set ups for admins, so there is a possibility you may encounter an admin with some advantage, but generally they only have those scripts as they are VERY useful for 'counter-scripting', and some have no extra 'powers' at all. So yeah you might find the odd dick admin on private servers, but its rare, and if you are going to tar all admins by the actions of one, your basically a cock.
