See personally i think the separate forums are just reenforcing this defunct way of thinking, and its holding us all back. And i totally agree, that is why its being tested, the focus should be on staying alive and it shouldn't devolve into yet another murderdeathkill FPS. But so far neither way its been implemented are working, mainly because its an enforced emotional response in a game thats otherwise sandbox. Personally the game can't emulate the emotionally response better then the real one i'm already having whenever i encounter another player i don't know. The PVP problem has a lot more to do with player mentality backed with a lack of other things to do then loot hunt. At the moment,DayZ 'endgame' play is: Find big gun> find ammo for big gun> get bored> go see what holes big gun makes in things. Those 'things' are zombies, players, whatever gets in the way. PVP will always exist still, but bandits don't really exist apart from as a dysfunctional outdated mindset, but its not the problem, lack of challenge is. -

This really.The bold bit. It not meant to be a game that makes you feel good by hanging out with your buddies looking for a car and nice guns. Your kind of supposed to feel like shit because you died from bloodloss 30ft from the hospital. The core gameplay element of feeling scared, alone and isolated seems like its getting lost under the community completely missing that point. -

Sorry, but any replies you give when you don't even bother reading what your responding to is kind of a waste of everyones time. You most likely have some valuable input, but if its tied to bullet points instead of on what someones actually said it can muddy the waters. Don't mean to have a go, just saying that it'll make a more focused forum all round. ON TOPIC: this videos really useful, hearing some input and thoughts on the mod directly from rockets mouth is great. -

EDIT: Shortly after this post, this thread goes downhill, so before it does, I'd like to urge players to watch the video, as the interviewer and Rocket discuss some hot issues in some detail, and its nice to hear Rockets side of things. things i've hear them discuss already is: >server optimization. >script kiddies >getting 'more 'professional'' with the updates/development (Rocket himself says its not the right word) >mechanics for team building (testing no guns is part of this) >ah fuck loads of shit, but our friends skim reading has distracted me, :-/ Anyhow its worth a watch. Original post: Weird, Where'd you guys get all that starting gear from hmm? the double barrel suggests your playing the new uber-harsh patch, but you guys have guns. ammo etc... Now a more paranoid player would cry 'admin hackz0r!' at Rocket himself! But i'm just fucking with you, Rocket can do what he likes when hes showcasing it. Would be great if he did something like this as an introduction vid maybe, like a 'overlord hints for new survivors' thing haha -

No i understand why dying alone in a ditch is an important part of a survival game. No i do not 'want sleep', stop butting words in my mouth. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO MAKE GAMES. Cos your idea for a survival game is 'ohnoez i am shoted, 'opens magic telepath chat' please bringz me bloodz' FUCK OFF quite frankly. -
Let me correct you: GAMES cater to the straight up dick in everyone. Its not DayZ that makes them nasty, its because they get jollies from being a dick, and they are hidden behind a screen and miles of internet cable. It happens in every game, CoD= spawn trapping BF2= tracer darting your own tanks WoW = people refusing to heal tanks etc, etc ,etc etc, Some people just like to log on to fuck you off. THATS IT. It just happens that DayZ has some sensitive souls playing it, so the bastards love it. They want you to be upset. And a DayZ player will make a rage thread in seconds, i bet you every thread wailing on here was their killers reading it with glee.

Mate sidechats been locked out for ages (AFAIK?) And it should be, cos you know if your bleeding in a ditch you can't telepathically ask some guy halfway across the map to come help you, you'll die in the ditch. COS THATS THE WAY ITS MEANT TO BE. -

The 'bandit meme' is holding back this mod. I've stated before that the mod makes you play in such a moral grey area that having extremes as 'bandit' and 'carebear' JUST DO NOT FIT WITH THE REST OF THE MOD. Its a flawed concept that doesn't work, and its due to the meme its created that people thinks its needed. Simply: Bandits skins was bunk. STRIKE ONE. Heartbeats are bunk. STRIKE TWO. Now lets be fair cos a lot of you people seem to think people stick to only one method of playing (you loons) so i propose this as a balance: Redesign the 'bandit system' for one last time, IF ITS STILL FLAWED, BIN IT, ENTIRELY. Personally i'd throw it out now. -

there is no such thing as bandits. its just a meme that won't die. Plus most of the bandits killing players on the coast have already been north to get their NVGs and sniper rifle. -
Well TBF, 70% of the player base (magic out of the air figure for example) roll back to an earlier version the feedback strongly says that the content of the patch they hate really isn't popular. Of it would be MUCH better is player manned the fuck up and actually did the job of testing that they have volunteered for, but seemingly a large chunk have no idea what alpha testing is. I guess the vague feedback is 'We don't like it this hard'. Valid reasons why would be good, rather than crying hard, but hey the player base as changed since the early days.

Deer stands are already spread all over the map and any youtube video warns new players about going to cherno/elektro/airfield. If you go there for high-level loot you must be willing to compete. Yeah thats it really. you've heard the rumours of loot there, the same you've heard its a deathtrap. If you want that gear you best be prepared to work and fight for it. -

No its because its a mechanic that brand players as a certain kind of player when really the game is such a moral grey area the entire 'bandit' mechanic concept doesn't work in every form its been tried in. All its done is create a meme in DayZ testers minds that the 'bandits' concept is somehow needed. It isn't. Purely because it doesn't fit with the rest of the mod and its created a FAR to over simplistic why of looking at players actions in game. Its created a 'Us & Them' attitude that is a fantastic source of crying and bitching, but quite frankly detracts from move fundamental issues. Some players kill for fun. Some players kill for loot. Some players kill because they are scared. Some players kill just to test out their new toy. All players will kill at some point. So, at some point, we'll all be a bandit. TL;DR The bandit concept is to simple and hasn't worked twice now in two incarnations. I propose we give it one last try in some form, if its still not working, Bin it.

Have to disagree partially. Disconnecting is a game breaking exploit that is impeding the mods progression and development, and Camping is the worst cases rather spineless but is a legit tactic. The Camper may be there covering his buddies ass as they scout and/or raid. Excepted, they may just be being an ass, but theres not much way for the mod to tell them apart. Its kind of everyones duty to learn the campers favorite places to pitch, and force them out of them yourselves, yup, they'll move and find new ones. But its that cat and mouse dynamic thats so fun. -
Its rather inventive trolling to be honest.
