That wouldn't be great testing all round TBH.It would be handy for testing loot spawns etc but making the alpha into a private playground for clans would be lame. Only people truly benefitting from that would be the clan member playing happy campers. An open world Standalone game that hasn't had the dynamics of pvp and rival group interaction tested would fall to shit.DayZ is an awful mod and will be an awful game. Its shame too, because the idea is great, just the platform and the execution are both terrible.

Are private servers technically illegal?
Never replied to Zoop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Backpack code is directly taken from another Mod/AddOn. In its entirety. Christ, thats one of the reason hes redesigning it for the standalone, because he borrowed code that just about does the job, to try out his mod. Hes stated that he borrowed the code wholesale. -

See my last post. Also, yes you do. Example A & B are in court over claims of authorship. A wrote the code B didn't but has a document dated and countersigned that B wrote it. Court will decide in Bs favour. -

Hes made some scripts for an open script engine. Also, hes borrowed a lot of content from other peoples mods. Backpacks, etc. and i'm pretty sure the dogs will be using a lot of scripting from another modders mod. So Rockets guilty of infringement as well by that standard. -

Thats presuming that Rocket took any action to legally document hes the author on unique code. But due to the nature of the engine, and the fact hes given it away to a very large modding community, it'll be very hard to make a claim of ownership. -

Its public mod. He gave up all entitlement when he released it for free, to the community. -

They aren't connected to the hive anyway.... Rockets was upset about them, but seems his attitude has changed slightly with all the hacking going on. Basically hes seen that to keep DayZ:MOD alive private hives might be the way to go. The base engines to weak against hackers.Theres also the argument that playing on a private hive means you aren't contributing data to the alpha, but thats a horseshit argument due to the fact the state the mod is in. A serious alpha test wouldn't have NO resets, etc. Simply, Fanbois will hate you for it, but it has fuck all effect on the main hive so go for it, Most of the decent DayZ players have shifted to Lingor anyway. -
Spawning with a friend in standalone?
Never replied to arched123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Theres 40000000000000 threads about the standalone, most of them have a link to Rockets press release. The press release where he says he wants to put this in the game. Could everyone please read the info thats out there before starting threads demanding answers from other people that know fuck all as well? Standalone was announced YESTERDAY. Rocket alone knows whats coming, none of us do, so maybe wait for a week to see what Rockets saying before flooding the boards? -
Have you bothered to read any of the press releases? Have you? It's been clearly stated that the public alpha for DayZGame will be cheap as fucking chips, AND IF YOU BOUGHT THAT YOU GET THE FREAKING UPDATES FOR FREE. So you'll get Beta, etc for no more than you pay on the goddamn alpha. If you can't be fucked to chip in $10-20 for a completely different product, then please just decide that and STFU. Your complete lack of common sense and ability to understand basic business procedure suggests your input would be like an Enfield: All fucking noise.

HES NOT A BI EMPLOYEE. FFS get your facts right people. He was an independent programmer contracted to do some work on ARMA3. He is now an independent LEAD programmer contracted by BI to develop DayZ:The Game. Vast difference between contractor and employee.

Been away from Day Z for 2 months. WTF has happend!

Actuall.. Ah fuck it. Whatever. -
Someone has already made a whole mod for dogs & handlers. Each player gets a unique scent 'cloud' in that. i guess rocket might just steal it entirely.

Its going to be set in Slough. Really. Honest. Guv. www.Lies&bullshit.com/yeah_2/fuck1n/r!gh7

OH HAI! Your that idiot that can't tell the difference between a game, a free mod, a different game and your own arse and elbow aren't you?
-
So I am assuming this mod is pretty much dead then right?
Never replied to Oddzball's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wait, your saying you expect a FREE copy of DayZ the game, because you, of your own free will, bought a different game to play a mod of that game and then you berate other people for actually realising that they are entirely separate products. Wow, your sense of entitlement is rather amazing. -
Yep its DEFINITELY NOT COMING AS A GAME. ever. In fact it never existed. the mod was just a dream, This forum is just a hallucination, and you've been in a coma for 16496464756356325 years and now we all live on Mars. This 'Rocket' you speak of must be the mothership that brought us here. You were sick. But now your well again. And theres work to do.

Running them in tandem for a while gives Rocket & team a great way to trail content. They can stick something in the mod, if the users hate it, they know not to waste time expanding it for the standalone. Its a fucking great way to make a game. Of course Rockets whole patter about a 'gaming experiment' might turn out to be some of the best marketing BS this year. -
1 big city would be shit. Totally urban would be tedious as would to rural. It needs varied environments all in one huge map. A tailor-made map would be the way to go i reckon, along with setting. Place DayZ in its own context rather than it being a shoot off of ARMA storyline. Maybe a present time setting based in some area of the USA where game hunting goes on now or suchlike environment? Bang 4-5 big-ish city/towns so we aren't always in the same 2 damn cities, lots of hamlets, hunting shacks etc, all with a rolling forest and farmland.
-
Doesn't matter, ARMA 3 will be open script i'm fairly sure as thats its strength and the main reason ARMA has faithful followers, they'd be insane to block off their core users because of a mod. DayZ:Game though, will most likely have the same foundation for core mechanics but the whole MMO aspect rebuilt from bare bones.
-
Noone but the team knows. But judging BI seems to have contracted Rocket to develop it to standalone suggests it'll be a hybrid of ARMA 2 and ARMA 3 code but with the whole multiplayer side of things heavily rebuilt.

So who else is going to stop playing dayz now
Never replied to cjbee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On Twitter. Instead on like the errr, Official forums.Yeah, i know, go figure... On topic though: I haven't played DayZ for a while apart from the Lingor offshoot. I'll have a look again when the first Alpha/Beta/whatever of the standalone makes it out, if its a lot more solid and thought out i'll stick with it, if its still a mil-shooter with a pinch of zombies I might just file it with the rest of the 'great ideas, poorly executed' games. -
DayZ Standalone Officially Announced.

Yep, over half the player base are moronic. Or 'retardeds' if you use their own terminology.
