I would like to suggest more focus on features players actually notice
Zoridium JackL replied to alleycat's topic in Suggestions
just no. when a game is in early access you are not a priority, they are not required to pander to you, you decided to spend money on the game they will release in the future, they are allowing you to play the very early versions of said game and maybe help them test it. keeping you entertained is the purpose of the finished product, not the development cycle. it's not their fault you decided that you want the finished product now and not when it's finished. you don't pay for a hotdog and then complain that while the hotdog vendor is making it you aren't being fed. also, those little survival based things that you don't play for, are precisely the reason why other people may play, so what on earth makes you the standard by which they should develop? I'm happy to get big things, but I also like it when little things get added because the little things add up, and a game where hundreds of little things happen to you is much more interesting then a game where just a few things happen over and over again. -
Long Range Scope (Standalone)
Zoridium JackL replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
I once found two pristine ones and a damaged on in a single hanger strip, kind of annoyed me seeing as how I already had one and I rarely find them otherwise on new spawns. -
yeah, some things seem too big but most things appear to be too small, I don't know if it's just the perspectives. i think it's most pronounced on the aesthetic only doorways, they seem so teensy.

Whats the 1st thing I should do when I spawn for the 1st time?
Zoridium JackL replied to parnell91's topic in New Player Discussion
walk to the nearest structure group, loot said structure group, then head inland away from the coast, focus on finding food/water until you're both very hydrated and very energized, once you get the "healthy" or "healing" status you can focus on gearing up. -
I have a little bloodlust, when I see people who I can shoot I get incredibly tempted to do so... that being said when I get fully geared I usually just troll up and down the coasts hanging out with new spawns, occasionally screwing with them but more often then not being friendly and helpful.

Friendly? Forget that, I'd rather beat you with a shovel

I was in berenzino on a fresh spawn wiht nothing more then a fire-axe, some guy (also a fresh spawn) charged me while I was looting and broke my legs, I knocked him unconcious (indefinitly) and then started going on about how he thought I was a bandit (you know, because all the cool bandits these days run around in beige t-shirts and jeans with nothing but an axe and childs backpack) and how I should help him wake up again so that he could be my friend. at this point I handcuffed him, read him an extract from peace and war, and then proceeded to crawl on my merry way. -
by degrading I really just meant maintinance, and I didn't say decrease ammo and increase zombies, just acheive a significantly better balance then what we have now. and if you can one shot a player without attracting a small horde of zombies I would consider that a problem, you need to give drawbacks to shooting your weapon at players without directly punishing people. shooting someone straight of the bat without attemtping to communicate or avoid them should be the less enticing option. and if a player has ammo on them I imagine it would probably be ruined by you shooting them as per the current system, infact I'd make it so that something like ammunition is more likely to get damaged due to its volatile nature, which would make getting all your ammo from players you shot less economical then you beleive. and no matter how good you are you can't always find hidden players, I have hidden from people who not only know the genral area I'm in, but know exactly what I look like and are less then 50m away, finding a good hiding spot and shooting at people who come by without getting immediatly spotted isn't as hard as you make it out to be, esspecially in this game which owing to it's general graphics style has very crowded landscapes and backdrops visually speaking offering great protectiong from people looking for you. and it's impossible to be in cover all the time unless you literally never move and can survive literally forever without food or water. so yes, you can die out of nowhere without someone having hacked or you having made a mistake and it's not fun to be shot by someone you didn't even get the chance to fight against.

What is the playstyle people would give you.
Zoridium JackL replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
some would say I'm a hero, most would say I'm a survivor, and the occasional one would swear back to front that I'm a bandit... -
there's plenty of reason to try and stop it, namely that it's not fun to be walking around and then to suddenly die out of nowhere. not being able to fight back in any way is not fun. that being said OPs idea is very poor, not only do people not KoS for gear most of the time, but even if they did you shouldn't directly punish people for killing other players because while the current amount of KoS going on is far too high the game would be terrible without any hostile players. most of the KOS problems will be solved when they solve the "melee is for zombies, bullets is for players" mentality and can reverse that so you actually have reasons not to shoot players and to either avoid them or attempt proper interaction first. things like actually threatening zombies in significant numbers that swarm to you when they hear the very loud gunshot, and weapons that actually degrade at a noticeable rate, and genuinly scarce supplies that you might need from other players but dont want to ruin with gunshots, when enough things like this get added shooting players will actually become something you want to avoid, but not something you wouldn't do if need be.

there's nothing wrong with having a friendly symbol, it just wouldn't work. generally I don't trust anyone, and if there are other people around i usually have my gun out (although not raised), if they wave or say hello I don't worry so much about them straight up attacking me but I'm still not likely to let my gaurd down.

I've started just using an improvised courier bag, it gives me plenty of space, I usually fill it with a med pack, ammo box, canteen, head torch and compass. I can fit my secondary (usually a sawn-off) pluss plenty of loose ammo in a vest and then I usually have a can-opener and hand-cuffs in my shirt, as well as a good book. then I use my pants as temporary storage, things like cans and extra food, that way if I break my legs nothing of value is damaged. if I could rotate items to better fit them I would ditch the vest in a heartbeat, the only reason I carry it is because I need four spaces across for my sawn-off.

If You Could Add Anything To DayZ What Would You Add And Why?
Zoridium JackL replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
at the moment it would be driftwood, small stick like peices of wood that are a very common and spawn in abbundance along the beech, only real use is to be combined with bandages/rags to make a splint. it's really not fun to have the stairs glitch and break your legs before you even have a chance to come accross morphine or sticks on a fresh spawn, something like this would give you an option to compromise your early inventory space for leg break insurance before you even have a chance to break your legs, might also help deal with people who like to break bambi legs and run. -
how do YOU dress to look friendly? and what not to dress?
Zoridium JackL replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
I'm usually wearing full camo, a mountain backpack and a cowboy hat... sometimes I wear a gas mask (or very occasionally a payday mask) and I'm usually toting a rifle. but I'm no bandit, I'll shoot someone if they seem like they're gonna be hostile (such as sitting in a sniper spot or something), but more often then not I'll try and establish a line of communication. at my worst I screw around with fresh spawns, feed them anti bacterial spray if I'm in a bad mood, but more often then not I like to share my beans. I hope people don't just shoot me because of how I dress, that would be unfortunate.
