    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

we don't need a middle ground, what we already have is a middle ground between realism and what can be accomplished with the technology, what you're proposing is to reduce the amount of realism in the game.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

how big was this bird? because at 30m you should be able to make out the wings head and body of most any bird (unless it's literally tiny already), again, you're missing the point, in real life we can't zoom in to make things easier, this is true, but in game we aren't zooming in any further then you would in real life, we are only zooming in to MATCH how much detail we would see in real life. yes it's easier without zoom, but not easier then it would be in real life, even when zoomed in it's harder then seeing things in real life because in real life we don't have to sacrifice peripheral vision entirely just to get the natural magnification of our eyes. and if that "where's wally" image were at the resolution of a human eye it would be far larger then your monitor, and you'd need to zoom in to be able to see it at the same quality as the human eye would if it were seeing it in real life, but you'd also need to zoom out to see as much of it area wise if you were seeing it in real life, pretty much exactly like we have in dayZ.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

you're missing the point, in real life we don't have to crop the image to get the same level of detail as we do zoomed in DayZ. things you can make out zoomed in DayZ are things you would be able to make out in real life, the things you can't make out while zoomed in DayZ are the things you wouldn't be able to make out in real life. you need to stop thinking of it like cropping an image, in real life we get 1x magnification without cropping anything, but in dayZ we can't get an accurate 1x magnification without cropping due to technical limitations, so in order to show you the same amount of detail as you would see in real life they can only show you a little bit of the area you would be able to see in real life, in real life you'd get that same level of magnification but you'd be able to see beyond the borders of the computer screen at the same time,

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

I think you need new glasses mate, if you can't make out most of the details of a bird in your backyard then you've got some serious problems. the problem is that the "zoom" feels like binoculars because they do what binoculars do, they cut of peripheral to show a greater level of detail, but in dayZ the zoomed state is actually only showing you as much detail as you get in real life, it feels like more because it contrasts with the default view in the same way binoculars would, but it's really the zoomed out state that is at fault. if the technology could support it we'd have the zoomed in state with the same amount of coverage as the default state, but since we can't have both at the same time we have to make do with both separately. just remember, 1x is the default magnification of the human eye, and zoomed in is only 1x magnification.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

if you can't make out a person at 300m you still need to get your eyes checked. and zoomed more closely represents your normal perspective, it just can't do that while also covering the same amount of area, imagine the level of detail you get while zoomed in, but over the same area as you get while zoomed out.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

the zoom in the game is only 1x at the moment, the default state is actually less then 1x the magnification of the human eye, that's your problem, we don't have invisible binos, we have invisible denos to compensate for the accurate detail visions ability to convey peripheral vision without compromising said detail accuracy. "zoomed in" is there to accurately simulate the level of detail we see, "zoomed out" is there to accurately simulate the amount of things we can see at once, by having both the game more realistically simulates the human eye then any one of those features would alone. you need to stop thinking of it as some sort of magical super power, it's actually a gimped and inferior version of real life.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

get your eyes checked, if you can't make out a bird at 30m then you have some serious issues bro you're error is in thinking that you're zooming in at all, the base state is zoomed out, they just can't show more then "a fourth" of what we'd normally see accurately due to technical limitations, hence why we default to a zoomed out perspective, so that we can have a sort of peripheral vision, while still having the more accurate level of detail that the "zoom" provides.

How would you like to see loot respawning done?

I dunno, if it were completely randomized it would remove the nuances and complications of real life looting situations. obviously it can't be one hundred percent realistic as we have to play on the same map over and over so things need to respawn, but it would be nice if the game captured the sense of economy, if a place gets hit by looters a lot then no matter how good the stuff that you could find there is there won't be much of it, the game should reflect that to a degree.

    Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

no human needs to do that. the zoom in the game isn't there to be a zoom, in real life we have enough vision to easily see what we have to zoom in to see in the game, the zoom is there to more accurately reflect real life, as is the zoomed out state. the zoomed out state gives more accurate peripheral vision, while the zoomed in state gives more accurate focused vision. in real life you can plainly see what you have to zoom in to see in dayZ, you can also plainly see at the same time the things around it like you can when you're zoomed out. zooming is just the technical term for the action, what it reflects in real life is just two parts of human vision, the reason they have to be separated in the game is because with current technology you can't realistically simulate both at the same time (or at all really, but we can get close enough). removing the zoom makes the game less realistic because when you're unzoomed you see drastically less detail then what you'd see if it were real life, and removing the un-zoomed would also be less realistic because you'd see drastically less by volume then you would in real life. both levels of zoom serve a purpose to realism, and by removeing one or the other you are just making the game less realistic. and in real life if you couldn't differentiate between a man and a zombie at 200m you'd need some serious ocular assistance, like glasses or surgery. as someone who actually has to wear glasses because I have a hard time seeing details at a distance, the zoom function practically simulates what I see with and without my glasses (except I see just as much area when I have my glasses on as I do when they're off, so it's not exactly the same).

How do you feel about melee combat?

you mean when mouse accel is fixed. I don't care if I can't turn it off for another age and a half, I'll adapt, but the fact that my guy turns SLOWER the faster I move my mouse is terrible, it's unintuitive and frustrating.
  11. ok, I get why it's silly for firing a gun and why you'd want it removed in that situation, in which case I'm fine for it being removed while a weapon is raised, but it isn't there for weapon aiming. how many times in real life have you reached for something you want to pick up only to have your hand brush up against it and miss because you weren't staring exactly at the center of the object and in fact were looking slightly to the left of it? the dot is there to compensate for the fact that the computer can't accurately simulate hand eye coordination, it's literally the most rudimentary and non-intrusive way the computer has of communicating with you. in real life our hand goes where-ever we will it to go, but in the game the hand can only go to one point, the computer needs a way of communicating that point to us or it does a very poor job of simulating interaction with the environment. unless you want this to be a sim of the most un-coordinated guy on the face of the earth I suggest even in hardcore the dot remain a thing.

Can someone explain to me the hardcore server hive(s)?

four IIRC. one regular stable, one regular experimental, one hardcore stable and one hardcore experimental. although I could be wrong.

How would you like to see loot respawning done?

I'd like for their to be a certain loot allotment on the map, so only roughly so many beans or weapons can exist at any given time with a system in place to make sure they are distributed fairly evenly around the map, the server then tries to be as close to this loot allotment as possible at all times. a loot spawn cannot spawn new loot for a certain amount of time after it has been looted (something like an hour or so) and when an item is looted an equivalent item is then spawned somewhere else on the map if there are open and compatible spawns available (it will prioritize open spawns in the less loot populated areas if it can). and if any pooling occurs (say everything gets pushed in-land and the coast is barren, with open spawns everywhere but no items to spawn there) the server will be allowed to go over the loot allotment to make sure their is at least some loot in those areas (but mostly poor items and nowhere near as much as there would be if people went out to find the loot that got pushed in-land). I think something like this would make sure areas stay fairly populated but keep the current feeling of "good stuff can spawn there but it might be too heavily looted", and when you see an empty spot it's not just a case of "guess it's on cooldown" but rather "guess there's loot elsewhere". at least that's what I'm thinking I would like to see, I'm sure there are better systems out there.

    Vests

in the stable build the only ones I've seen are the press vests and assault vests, but they definitely do spawn.

    What to carry?

if you don't empty the gun entirely, at least in the current build, you need to right click the ammo in the gun and eject it before you reload, and because you have two primaries you would have dropped the M4 to grab the SKS off your back, and then it probably glitched out which is a shame, I've lost more then I care to admit to that (on my current spawn I've lost several ammo boxes containing hundreds of round). either way, it's good to downsize your inventory, I used to constantly have inventory troubles but after I limited myself to the courier bag I figured out pretty quick what was and what wasn't worth carrying, now I still have the occasional space troubles but it's always because I'm being silly or impractical.
  16. Zoridium JackL

Don't keep it in your pants

it's funny because I currently have two sticks of morphine and a saline bag + IV in my pants. I usually use the pants for temp storage though, I've already got two more morphine in my med bag so the two others I have are entirely disposable, I only keep em in case I come across someone else who needs em.
  17. Zoridium JackL

    What to carry?

I don't know about him but I choose to dedicate two precious inventory spaces to cuff and keys not because I'm going to rob someone, but for more safely securing people who are a threat to me if it ever comes to that. I'm a fan of breaking assailants legs rather then outright killing them. as for your space problems I'd ditch 2-3 weapons. look at it this way, sure you'll be passing up ammo for one gun or another but you won't need the weapons anyway, you ideally want a primary and a secondary, from what I know you'll want to ditch the SKS and the Magnum, preferably near the coast for freshies. you probably won't need the FNX and the sawn-off but as someone pointed out it's always good to have an extra hold-out. you'll find yourself with plenty of space, personally I travel light, nothing but my courier bag and a vest for my sawn-off as far as carry bags go, and I never really want for more then I've got (if anything I'd like to be able to ditch the vest).
  18. I don't care what they spawn, those ladders just aren't worth it.
  19. Zoridium JackL

    Shotguns are awesome

sawn-off side by side double barrel will always be my favorite, but I can get behind any sawn-off shotgun regardless, they just give of a certain "fuck you" vibe, as if they know the rules of combat but don't give a shit.
  20. Zoridium JackL

    Shotguns are awesome

I love sawn-offs in general (I'm a mad max kinda guy, so sue me), and it's my go to secondary (because the best secondary is a primary) in DayZ, my only complaint is that to carry it I need 4 horizontal slots, which means that since I use the improvised courier bag and I can't rotate it I need to wear a vest in order to fit it, which I hate because it makes me look far too militant.
  21. Zoridium JackL

    Give civilian clothes some bonus?

camo is great for breaking up your silhouette, but it's far less efficient then your surroundings (a good bush does it better), and in some ways it limits your options as far as concealment, for example lying prone in a field of grass, you're better off with a more solid (and dull) green colour then TTsKO because the grass breaks up your silhouette, but the busier pattern of the camo creates a contrast against the relatively simple pallets of the field and can actually make the outline of your person more defined. plus there are a tonne of people who will shoot you for wearing camo (stupid I know) so I find wearing less militant clothing helps somewhat (it still annoyes me that I need the vest for my shotgun when it should by all means fit in my courier bag). in real life I'd definitely prefer the camo, but in this game I find simpler dull colours tend to blend more with the varied (and sometimes very simplistic) colour pallets and the foliage breaks up my outline plenty.
  22. Zoridium JackL

    Give civilian clothes some bonus?

I actually prefer not to use TTsKO, I think the patterning is too busy and doesn't really offer that much of a boon to camouflage, I prefer green cargoes and a tactical shirt/green hoodie, still blends well but it also looks less militant. wish I didn't have to wear a vest to be able to carry a sawn-off though, damn thing won't fit in my courier bag because I can't rotate it.

    How would you feel about

you mean NPCs that simulate real players? ...why? it would just make all the encounters with them feel scripted and you'd know what happens, it's basically a shitty version of player interaction. if your problem is not enough of these types of interactions with players then understand that in later builds I expect shooting players on sight to be a far less enticing interaction even for bandits so things will probably get more interesting on their own.

How i take care of babie killers

    good man.

    I ducking hate you bandits

yeah, some people are dicks, but hey, there are still some of us out there that are just happy to chill and share what we got.
