    what if?

    1. then they change their vision to fit the engine or change the engine to fit their vision, probably the former if it comes to it. 2. I doubt that's going to be too much of an issue, the game only needs to render what you're looking at (or thereabouts), and if you're using binoculars you are actually looking at less objects that are just further away, 3. I highly doubt they'll be unable to come up with a loot spawning system eventually, it's not likely to be the most incredibly difficult of issues. 4. I'd be disappointed, but at the same time I don't think it would kill the game or anything, just the zombie aspect.
  2. just north of cherno I think.

I was told everyone will kill you ...wrong !

I've never met a geared person in game who was friendly, I met one guy with a mosin (and not much else) who literally ran past screaming "don't shoot me I don't want trouble", and one small group of semi-geared (basic civ clothing and a couple basic civ guns, don't think they had ammo) who said hello then went on their way, but apart from them everyone I've met has either been a bandit or a bambi who couldn't fight me if they tried (and a couple have tried lol), it annoys me a little because I'm usually a very friendly person to people I meet and I'd like to have a positive interaction with someone who isn't only being nice because I have a gun in my hands.
  4. I can list everything I keep in my "end-game" inventory. usually wearing a green tactical/hoodie, green cargo's, vest and courier bag. 1x Hundcuffs 1x Handcuff key 1x book (whichever is the most interesting at the time) 1x can opener 1x splitting axe 1x loaded Sawn-off Shotgun 1x loaded Mosin with LRS 1x loose mosin rounds 1x loose shotgun shells 2x shotgun speedloaders 1x medpack >2x morphine >2x bandages/rags >1x saline/blood bag >1x IV 1x Ammo box (filled with as much ammo as I can find) 1x compass 1x head-torch 1x canteen 6x empty/temp slots (usually keep spare meds/food in there, and a sewing kit on occasion, I give most of the things in here away to other players who need them) my question is why do you need so much ammo?

    Warning Shots

I'm not saying everyone will fire, I'm saying that more people will fire on you then otherwise. obviously there are people who are just out to avoid gunfights, but there are also people who will go out looking for them (the people who are going to shoot at you regardless), and people who won't start a fight but will sure as hell participate if one kicks off (the ones who will shoot at you when you shoot at them first). you are in the end only increasing the number of people who want to shoot you. this is what I'm getting at, there are people out there like me that won't just shoot at you for no reason, but you shooting at me, even if you miss, is easily reason enough for me to at least try and take you out. in you're attempt to ward off gunfights you are essentially putting a neon sign over your head saying "fight me". it's impractical, it's more amiable then outright KOSing, you're trading less people shooting at you for a slightly less exposed position (although you kind of give away your position when you fire your weapon anyway). perso

    Warning Shots

but you aren't reducing the chance of an exchange of bullets... you're inviting an exchange of bullets by beginning one. it's a sort of backwards logic you're using. it's fine if you can convey that it's a warning shot, but there really isn't any way to distinguish between someone trying to kill you and missing, and someone trying to warn you by missing. those people who ran away probably didn't do so because they thought you wanted them to leave, they probably did so because they thought you wanted to kill them. don't get me wrong, it's still a step above just shooting them (morally, not practically speaking), but it's inefficient at getting your intent across because you come across as more "I'm going to kill you" and less "leave or I'll shoot you", you're pretty much guaranteeing that you won't have any friendly encounters and increasing the likely-hood that someone is going to open fire on you, because now you don't just need to worry about KOSers, you also need to worry about people trying to defend themselves against KOSers. personally I think it'd be great if we had a better way to communicate with other players to make our intentions clear, like a shout, or even just an arrow with paper tied around it, just something so that I can get my intention across at more then 50 meters (in an empty and desolate town I'm sure I could shout further then that, at least clear enough for them to understand that if they do anything I'll shoot them). maybe just a little red laser dot that I can hover over their body, so that they know I have a shot and I'm not taking it yet.

    Warning Shots

that's not the point, you seem to think that immediately returning fire is the only truly hostile way to retaliate against your unprovoked assault, anyone who isn't an idiot will get into cover first. but more importantly you seem to think you're somehow conveying to other people that you want them to leave, what you are actually getting across to them is that you want to kill them.

    Warning Shots

most intelligent people who aren't afraid of a little firefight will look to get out of the line of fire THEN shoot back, simply getting into cover is not the same as outright running away.

    Warning Shots

if somebody is shooting in my direction I don't think warning shot, i think they are trying to KOS me and I should defend myself, you should really think about that before doing it. I mean, if you come up to me and talk to me and ask nicely if you can loot the area alone I'd be more then happy to come to some arrangement (like you get the loot you want and I get whatever you don't), but if you start shooting at me I'm going to assume you're a bandit and retaliate. so that guy you shot because he was gearing up to kill you? you don't know that he was actually a bandit or threatening player, you provoked him into fighting you, he could have been a hero or someone looking for someone else to share their beans with. you aren't deterring threats, you're inviting them. the only time warning shots work is if the other person is entirely aware you could have shot them perfectly (which in almost every case they aren't because they have no point of reference on your aim) and/or you tell them, but just firing bullets at them screams unfriendly bandit asshole who's out to kill me, not "hey! would you mind leaving me alone".

Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?

what he means is that there isn't anything wrong with turn speed being determined by all those factors (such as a max turn speed and what-not), and it's not like that isn't there, but aside form that the mouse controls (in regards to mouse acceleration) are broken in that we have negative mouse acceleration so we don't really experience the gear based system past the broken accel one. if I move my mouse very slowly about a few centimeters to the side I can easily do a 360 turn, but if I move the mouse the same distance as fast as I can I'll be lucky to turn more then 40 degrees. mouse acceleration is supposed to work the opposite way, the faster you move your mouse the faster you go (up until your gears limit), and as much as I'd like to turn that off in and of itself it's even worse when it's forced on and then doesn't work correctly anyway, it turns a somewhat undesirable but still fairly intuitive method of control into a constant wrestling match (which you eventually push to the back of your mind, but it's still an issue). and this is all regardless of what gear I'm wearing. it's an alpha so things like this are to be expected, but it would still be nice if they were fixed sooner rather then later.

Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?

I get that, and it's a deeply interwoven code issue (or so I would assume from the symptoms), but nevertheless I'd love to see it fixed, it's the one control issue that I feel throws the game out the most, the rest just sort of get in the way, but the neg accell just... ugh.

    If you're playing right now...

what about me? I'm armed quite well and I hang out on the coast, but I like to hand out beans and morphine to those that need it... am I an instant KOS?

    What is server hopping?

it's not about the population or safety, it's about the ease of accessing limitless loot spawns. since loot doesn't respawn once you've looted a building you have to wait for the server to restart before anything will appear there again, but loot is also server specific, so you can just change to a different server and take the loot from the same location. imagine this, I loot a barracks, one of the better places to loot in the game, then I switch to another server, so it's full of loot again, now I get to loot two barracks and I didn't even have to leave the building, rinse and repeat as many times as you like. it's looked down on because it's exploiting the mechanics of the game in an unintended way that gives you an advantage over other players (there's only so many lootable barracks on any given server, but you get potentially infinite ones) and it kind of defies the point of the game.
  14. the problem is that you are trying to run it on a four year old laptop that wasn't that great for games anyway, I know because I've got one. honestly, you need to upgrade, when making a game the devlopers have to find a middle ground between what they want the game to be and what they want it to run on, and for DayZ it would hardly be unreasonable to put your laptop down at the bottom of the barrel as far as requirements go.

Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?

for many people the mouse has negative mouse acceleration, basically you look around slower the faster you move your mouse, it's incredibly unintuitive and disorienting, so that might be your problem (not that it helps to know that, there isn't actually any fix that I know of player side)
