Starting to Doubt the Realism...
replied to green_machine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Another rumor says that saying "It's an Alpha, deal with it" is the dumbest thing to say in an Alpha, instead of discussing bugs, features and balances. Which yet another rumor tells me that helps the game progress to a better and more balanced game regardless of stage in development. -

To be fair, the fan base of this mod isn't know for being exactly friendly and mature. You can't even report a bug or make a troubleshoot thread without some 500+ posts member telling you to leave the game and/or calling you an idiot. (Not a lot of personal experience with my own threads on that issue. But I've seen countless other being exposed to that kind of behavior)

A realism mod needs to make it as real as possible' date=' and you can't magically chat with people 20km away in a zombie apocalypse. If at all, make it so you need radios with batteries, which both spawn extremly rare. I think we will see something like this later on. But for now its side chat off, if you want to chat go on steam or xfire to chat ingame or just hook up on ts, no need for 40+ people to read all that. [/quote'] Yeah, realism, because batteries are so hard to find. Besides, cellphone network and the internet should still be up and running as these zombies are "infected. Not to mention CB radio. But don't get me wrong, I think it's good that the side chat is turend off. There's no power. Cellphone towers need power. So do computers. Then what about a sattelite phone that uses 9v batteries? Surley this virus spread didn't knock the sattelites out of the sky. But to be fair, it somehow killed automatic power plants so that might also be the case. Yes they run automaticly 24/7, the people who work there are just monitoring it for the most part. And it would continue to run during a virus outbreak, unless someone turned it off, which might have been the case. Well, I guess the realism with running forever and getting punched trough walls is so flawless that we cannot get a few walkie talkies.

So I have this game another shot today. Got an M14 AIM and a G17 when I raided the Stary Sobor military camp. As I was walking back into town I head sound comming from inside the barn, and instead of walking in I snuk up to a window just to see three zombies in there. No big deal I though and just started to walk around. Of course this wasn't that easy, all three zombies came running trough the closed door and forced me to hide in a small storage house/room thing outside of the barn. before I knew it 10-20 zombies came trough the walls and the closed doors hitting me like crazy. Forcing me to shoot up all my G17 ammo and star on the M14 ammo. I was doen to 4000 blood and I had broken bones after I killed the horde of zeds. Nothing major I though as I still had tons of M14 ammo left and I had blood bags, morphine and painkillers. Of course 3 seconds later another 20+ zombies came running and hitting me trough the walls. And as expected, they slaughtered me. That's it, I'm done with this game until they fix the stupid overpowered zombies that see, attack and walk trough walls and doors. (Unless I get a group of friends to derp around with over Skype) This was also with the latest Arma II beta patch, and the DayZ 1.7.1.5 build.

The tale of my tragic death.

I won't really stop, never said that either. I'm gonna stay away until the next patch probably and check back then. Today was my first time playing since the 1.7.1.4 hotfix was released. -

The tale of my tragic death.

That's what I was thinking. No' date=' actually, what I was [i']really thinking was, "why do people always seem to whine 'I quit!' and then post about how they're quitting the game?" And then I thought, "why the hell do I care?" And then, "why am I even wasting my time in responding?" Finally, I thought, "Yeah, I'm as big an idiot as the OP!" and then I bailed on your whiny whinefest. Did I really make a thread about how "I'm quiting the game"? No I did not. I had a comment that I was gonna wait until they fix the zeds. That's it, the rest was the story of what happened. I'm an idiot? Well you can't read. -
Seattle servers aren't really Seattle servers?
replied to Playvertical's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some servers have different time settings. And the difference between night and day during summer and winter isn't accounted for in the game I believe. We have 5 hours or less of night in the summer and the opposite in the winter here in Norway. Still only 12 hour days and nights in the game though. -

How cute. Can I get a super-duper ray gun that shoots lasers trough the walls so that I can defend myself? -
His name was Bob' date=' he died because you riddled him with bullets. You b*st*rd Police Version: His name was John, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the back 16 times. :P [/quote'] Lol!! what is the usefulness of this feature? Knowing the reason for death? Know if you've killed a zombie or a player? It should be clear the difference between a corpse devoured by zombies one shot by a player. To the naked eye. Without doing an autopsy. Modeling!!! It's just a fun little feature. I rather like the idea of it.

That would also be true. But now the zombies are like the Dead Snow zombies, way to fucking smart.
-
Telling me that in the year 2012. Computers with 4 processors. GPU 2GB of ram. Internet connections optical fiber 100 megs. It is impossible to create this? I do not think so. So ... DayZ must be a realistic zombie game' date=' where in a village of 1000 inhabitants there are only 50 zombies? [/quote'] Have you played the game? When 5 zombies run about, your FPS drops dramaticly.
-
Becuase 10,000 zombies wouldn't fuck up the performance completly. Yes it would 10 zombies fuck it up. They can refine the zombies a lot. But they should still run at you. These zombies are zombies due to a virus right? A virus which leaves them with nothing but basic mamal instincts. They can run just fine, let's keep it at that. What they should't be able to do is run around you and climp stuff as well as open doors teh conventional way, that's just stupid. And stop working on bugs would leave this game with 5fps and everyone either starting in the ocean or the debug forrest. No one would play that. Alpha release still have to be playable. Work on getting new stuff in as long as the game is playable, and in beta, you should do nothing but make the game run as smooth as you possibly can.
-
I bet it's done when it's done. 1.7.1.5 works just fine. Rocket should take his time with 1.7.2 to get it as good as possible. No rush like 1.7.1 was.

Nerf zombie aggro range!! Servers with and without starting gun?
replied to DevilBlade's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Just having a gun on you when you start is as realistic as the nights in this game. In other words, realism isn't even present. I love the new starting gear. The problem is the zeds detection range, which might be fixed in the next hotfix. I will stop playing to save myself the agony until 1.7.1.5 is out. -
So I have this nice problem where I encounter super zombies that can spot me from literally 300meters away. When I run and hide they are coming trough floors and walls usually, and one or two hits usually make my character pass out and then I die. 5 characters have died like this, all right after I have gotten all my gear and made preperations to go inland too of course. And I spend around 30-40 minutes every time I start playing just finding a working server. Since about 80% of the servers are running an old version there is not much to choose from. And the ones who actually are labeled "1.7.1.4/beta 93825" are either low FPS, no loot, not really 1.7.1.4 but some other version or I simply cannot join due to getting stuck in loading or the server is already full. This is not fun, and it's ruining the game completly. Just getting it out there. Needed to rant after my 5th just died with tons of good loot on him. Keep up the patches and hotfixes, it's slowly improving.
-
I 100% agree with this! Most of my servers show 1.7.1.1 And a good chunk of the very few 1.7.1.4 servers are actually 1.7.1.1 servers when you join them. It's annoying to look trhough 50 servers wit hthe wrong version only to find one with your version, but it's either full, not your version after all, low fps og you get stuck at loading.

Server Hopping Exploit Possible Fix
replied to randomisation's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you die? So if you die within 15 minutes you spawn unconscious? That's a horrible idea. I've spawned and got shot within 3 seconds of spawning several times before, and I do not want to wait an additional 15 minutes before I can start playing again. And using a timer on the logout would be a bad idea now too. As I and many other are having serious FPS issues(Down in the 5fps range) on some servers and need to server hop for probably 1 hour before we can find a "good" server with 20+ fps. Not to mention crashes. -
Drones/ UAV (Ka-137 and Pchela-1T)
replied to hobbicon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The skill? How about the skill to operate a gun effectively? Seems like everyone in the game have that. Not to mention thay also know how to use stuff like bandages, blood transfusions and morphine the correct way. Considering you can put a big barebed wire roll in one slot I think some sort of UAV wouldn't be that hard to fit somehow. And you can just make them run on batteries, that takes care of the energy problem. I bet there are millions of batteries in Russia just waiting to be used. -
Possible solution to night time?
replied to dannyboy92 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the fact that the power is out. But then again, this game is darker than reality, so maybe this is the only way you could navigate at night without getting shot. You do have to run around flashing a giant "kill me" sign that the whole universe can see to navigate at all. -
Drones/ UAV (Ka-137 and Pchela-1T)
replied to hobbicon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As long as they are unarmed I'm okay with it. And they should be really, and I mean really hard to find. -
Stucked at loading screen
replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Happends on probably 80% of all the servers I try to join. And every time it happens, I have to do the Ctrl+Alt+Del to shut down Arma 2 and then starte the entire game again. It's getting really aggrivating to find a good server now. Since it's a 60/40 chance of the server either lags, spawns me in random locations, doesn't have sound, zeds or loot.
