Did anybody experience a character wipe? I think I logged out in a safe spot but can't rule out a respawn, or having made a mess when resetting the config...
-
This thread made me want to give night a try, my only experience was just a couple minutes of play as a fresh spawn back in the first hours of play, needless to say I managed to bump right into a zed and die immediately (mostly I had no idea how to play). I hope in the future it will be possible to double wield a few selected items: a handgun or small melee weapon in the right hand together with a flash light or a compass in the left hand could make a useful, and in my opinion, very reasonable combination which wouldn't be in any way overpowering but would instead lessen the annoyance of item swapping. That made me have a much needed laugh - well done Sir :D

I've tried out the binoculars and I'm really looking forward to when all the issues will be sorted out; compared to the other optics, binoculars lenses (even in pristine condition) look unreasonably dirtier. I've also run into pretty much every issue already described above; I think zeds speed should be tweaked a little as they can now outrun me when I hold a handgun, which doesn't really makes much sense and can be quite annoying when trying to get to a distance to shoot them while avoiding to be hit from afar.

How many shots does gas pump take
DonTonino replied to korpisoturi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
A few days ago me and a mate, both fresh spawns with nothing to lose, tried to blow up the gas pump north of Solnichniy using our bare fist; we got bored before achieving any results, guess we went on for 4-5 minutes at least. -
I have noticed the same but I haven't checked into it properly yet

I don't have much of an issue with the scarcity of sticks or morphine but I think the glitches should really be fixed: breaking a leg in a fight is fine, breaking it because I missed a step is retarded.

Something similar happened to me a few days ago: I was crouching and sorting my inventory in the corner of the small room over the door of a metal shed, and suddenly I found myself on the ground outside. At the time I though that I had glitched through the wall, either because of some movement while crouching or because my friend had inadvertently shoved me (he was standing before me when it happened); it seems I was lucky as I had no damage whatsoever, no broken leg or anything. Immediately after that though something else happened, just as weird: once back in the shed, I got "rooted" to the floor, on a patch of ground which was sticking through the floor. I could turn around and act, open the inventory etc. but I couldn't move at all, nor vault or anything. A few minutes of hilarity ensued as my friend tried shoving me outside of the shed, but to no avail. Eventually logged out and in again, and everything was fine. Alpha! :D -

My network card doesn't support Jumbo frames, so I can't test it. Now I'm testing the game with only the IPv4 enabled, so far it seems to run smoother but it could be due to other reasons as well -
I've noticed that since the update whenever I open the inventory the mouse is never centred on the window, but moved all way to the sides. Very confusing, as I have to move the mouse around to see where the arrow is. Maybe it has to do with me playing in windowed mode?

Worth a try, thanks for the tip -
Yesterday, while trying to avoid some sniper fire, I had an idea: what if it would be possible to camouflage yourself when laying in the grass or woods? As I could imagine it, it could work like this: You have to lay down somewhere with grass or bushes or trees. It wouldn't be possible to camouflage while in the open, or anywhere like buildings or roads, and it won't work if you crouch or stand.Once you are laying in an appropriate area, you are given an option to "Camouflage yourself". This will start an animation of the character "collecting" branches from the surrounding, lasting like 20-30 seconds. While camouflaging the character will actually be more visible than if just laying down, as it will move around and make noiseAfter the animation is ended, you are camouflaged. This won't show your character to other players, except for any active tool or weapon you could be holding in your hands (see lower for more about this). A twist to even up things: there could be a success percentage to the action of camouflaging, like 50% or 60%, and you have no way to know for sure if you have correctly camouflaged yourself, except by asking someone else to look at you. Thus, after going through the action of camouflaging you could actually be as visible as when laying normally, but you would have no idea of that; it could be adjusted so that if you are holding anything in your hands, the success percentage is lower, thus making it easier to hide if you decide not to hold a weapon or object (up to 100% success maybe)Camouflage is lost if: character is moved (only movement allowed would be the aiming deadzone), any weapon is shouldered or extracted or put in the backpack, any other object is used. So if you want to use it for sniping, you better be very careful in choosing your aiming direction, and cherish your ammo (if you reload, your camouflage is gone). If you want to hunt, the same applies. If you want to hide, just remember to keep still (as anybody hiding would do) As much as this could be useful for snipers, I could imagine this being useful for hunting or for hiding from other players, for example when being hunted down. Could actually be fun for some group tactics (player leading some unsuspecting victim towards a group of hidden players, etc.). What you think of that?

Yesterday night I run into all the issues already known and described above, making for a particular hectic gameplay which I found rather humorous overall :D . I have noticed something which was quite annoying though, that is that my walking speed seemed greatly reduced at the point of feeling frustrating to walk while looting (especially in the new jail in Krasnostav with all the stairs and small rooms). I wouldn't mind some adjustment to walking speed though, the speed before the update was a bit too fast for my taste. I have not changed any setting from before the update, and running speed felt much the same as before; anybody else have noticed the same change, or could it have been an issue related to my client or my character having been wounded before? -
Again, thanks everybody for the feedback :) I'll try to explain what points I think may have been overlooked, I have no interest in giving snipers much of advantage (I've never played as a sniper so far, I like the exploring / scavenging /survival approach much more than the PvP; I'm a lousy shot anyway <_< ): camouflaging would be possible only when in a grassy or woody area, so no possibility at all to be used on rocks / roofs / inside buildingscamouflaging with any item in your hands (be it a tool or a weapon) carries a penalty on the success, without the player having any idea if he has successfully camouflaged. Also, whatever you are holding in your hand is visible - so if you are sniping, the rifle will still show and stick out, pretty much like if you were to lay in a bush letting the rifle stick out of itreloading the weapon, changing stance or item, or moving will immediately break the camouflage. Only movement allowed would be the aiming deadzone, which can go only so far in tracking a moving target or changing aim I think that the advantage to snipers would be would be quite limited, as the sniper would have to be in a grassy area (severely limiting the hiding spots), would have to lay still (so no turning around to cover another approach or building or eating/drinking/moving around while waiting for a target) and once the magazine is empty, he has to break the camouflage to reload. Judging by what I've seen and read so far, the average sniper usually hides inside buildings and seeks a fast paced gameplay, so I think most of snipers would actually have no use for this kind of camouflage. On the other side, I think it could be a realistic approach to hunting, as you'd have to choose your spot well, and be ready to wait for the prey to show up without doing anything else. It would also work well for ambushes, but again, you'd have to choose the spot well and wait for someone to show up (or you could have a team mate lead some unsuspecting victim in the woods  ) This wouldn't be the same as ghillie suits: the suits would allow you full mobility and no penalty at all to actions / combat / inventory system, while not affording you a near perfect hiding. So if you prefer mobility over hiding, the ghillie suit will do; my proposal would let the player achieve a much better hiding at the cost of severe penalties on movement and action. Different balance, different gameplay, different way to have fun in the game :)

I totally agree with OP, it is all the more needed with the "Eat all" option. I think actions needs a bit of balance, both for realism and for gameplay. As it currently is, I can run and open a can with the can opener with the inventory open (which basically means I'm running, I dig my hand to catch the can opener wherever it could be, be it a pocket or the bottom of the backpack, I dig for a can, again maybe at the bottom of the backpack, and manage to open the can without cutting myself or spilling half the can without even taking the can out of the backpack :D ) but I can't walk at a slow pace and take a swig at the canteen or bite into an apple  I think we could have a good balance if: very simple actions like eating or drinking could be done while walking, but not while running. If you start running during the action, the can or canteen is dropped to the ground and some of the content is spilled (content is reduced by 50%)more complex actions like applying bandages, using tools, etc. could be done only when being still. If you start walking or running, the action is interrupted without being completed, the items are dropped to the ground and possibly are also damaged or emptied (I'm thinking of the blood bag or saline bag)all actions have to be started in the lowered stance. Issuing the combat stance will interrupt the action and drop the items, with the same penalties as above. This way you can actually choose how to interrupt the action: do you want to flee? drop everything and run! do you want to stand your ground? drop everything and get ready for the fight, while your items lay at your feet allowing you to pick them up while looking aroundThe penalty of dropped and damaged/spilled content I think is only fair to balance out the increased mobility to avoid incoming danger we would be given; by interrupting the action with walking or running, there would be no need for a dedicated command or key, and I believe it shouldn't require too much coding.

My apologies for having posted in the wrong Sub and thanks everybody for the feedback, I'll think it over :)

The Makarov has no ejection port on the left side, and no safety on the right side. While it is fairly common for more recent handguns to have ambidextrous safety and releases, I can't remember of any handgun being sold with a left-sided ejection port, unless maybe as an after market customization. I doubt a Chernarus military or gangster would go the expense for such a modification on a Makarov though :P
