I always carry a swiss army knife (except airports and stuff, probably a bad idea), even in the game it wouldn't be useful as a weapon, you're not going to kill quickly with a 3-inch blade; but I think it could be used as a can opener and probably in crafting as well.

Yeah, very good idea. I think I remember hearing from somewhere that zombies would be able to track by scent, but I don't think it would be considered too seriously.

Alright, so we all know just how difficult it is starting out; and it should be. But those first few looting attempts always seem near impossible for me, and ends in a boxing match with the walking dead. (It takes forever to kill those things with fists by the way.) Now, there used to be starting weapons, but then they were terribly abused and the beaches turned into killing grounds. So clearly you shouldn't start of with a gun. But it seems rather harsh to give a player no defense against the zombies at first. So maybe we start with some sort of basic melee weapon, something that can't really hurt other players? I think there should at least be some improvised weapons lying around in the environment that are as common as dirt for starters. Players should start with; or at least have easy access to, some sort of basic weapon. Here's some examples: Hefty Branch: A tree limb that you can pick up in the woods that deals little damage but gives a player some reach. Frying pan: A useful item that would be found in any house. 2 X 4 Lumber: A two by four plank, for smacking zombies around. Alternatively, maybe we should be able to use the flashlight in melee? If you've ever used an old, metal flashlight you know that those things have got some weight to them. So maybe you can use it to fight, but risk breaking it. Let me know how stupid this is with a comment.

Everyone owns pots and pans, and they're heavy, bulky, and easily replaceable; so it's not something that a refugee would take with them. Hence, I think they should be pretty common, and would make a half decent melee weapon.

Well, I probably wouldn't have bought the game if I didn't see his videos, so am I a traitor or something?

If this medication exists why is the zombie apocalypse happening in the first place?

There should definitely be some cards for a game of poker or lonely apocalypse solitaire; I could stomach a lock picking component in the game. As for engine fixing and shaving minigames...I feel like they'd become boring and repetitive you'll just get shot while doing it.

From what I've been hearing drinking from pumps is going to become pretty risky, and drinking from a pond downright suicidal.

Oh yeah, apocalypse swag time right here.

Items you have still yet to see in the game.

A canteen. I just feel very unlucky. I've only been playing a few days though. -
I think this would be really cool, but I wouldn't count on it. While I'd be happy to read the Cherno Times I think that journalists would probably wind up as victims most of the time.

Someone told me that there was a plan so that you could enter other map zones from Chernarus, but I'm not sure exactly how extensive this should be. The thing I want to see in the map most is a heavily fortified border region in the west, and across the border is a more urban area (some sort of neighboring country that was a fair bit more prosperous then Chernarus perhaps?) When I say urban I don't mean Chernogorsk but actual dark, cramped back alleyways and skyscrapers, absolutely overrun with zeds. Way too much to ask for though, only a dream...

I found an empty can of spraypaint and a pink beanie before dying once...

Canteens, utility belts, and more (now with PICTURES!).

Batman utility belt anyone? Just sayin'. -
What if all the crowbars are in locked buildings?
-
Totally going to start a sewer gang if this is ever added.

Radio transmissions | Add depth trough background story hints...
Pvt_Larry (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Suggestions
Certainly, but I just thought it might be a little more interesting. Your original suggestion is very good I think, and wouldn't be so hard to implement. -
Zombies should run faster than players
Pvt_Larry (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
It seems like the devs have been saying they would add more zombies from the very beginning. I don't want any sprinting zombies- I want real hordes of stumblers to make the cities dangerous. It's so much more classic too. -

I'm a good guy that merely misbehaves when starving. -
I'd totally join the Union of Man; but wait- DID YOU JUST TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!!?

Radio transmissions | Add depth trough background story hints...
Pvt_Larry (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Suggestions
I don't see any reason why there can't be a little background, but I do really like the idea of missions, but I feel like to have anything really interesting you might need NPCs involved, and I don't know the likelihood of them adding any. W/o NPCs you could have some of the "Horde Spawn" events like in the original post. Or something like "We have evacuated from XYZ...have taken heavy casualties...had to abandon medical supplies." And then you could go to XYZ and maybe there a burned-out truck with some bloodbags and first aid kits with alot of Zeds around. With NPCs I think i would be more interesting, you might get a broadcast like "This is Taskforce Zhenya...we're currently at XYZ and low on ammo...we're being overrun..." And then you go to XYZ and can try to save the beleagured Russian troops, or just finish them off for their equipment. -
So instead you kill them once and then shoot them in the head again so they don't get back up. But still an interesting idea.

Takes 10 minutes to punch them to death. GAHH!
