I left a huge assortment of spare gear at an ATC with a note the other day. I'd guess the server wiped it before anyone got it. I do carry a note, it reads something like. "Well, if you're reading this, you must have killed me. Enjoy the gear, and good luck out there, asshole. Best, PJSleaze.

Had a fun little shootout between the ATC and the firestation tower at NWAF tonight. First time I'd seen anyone there, and I've been there just about every day this week. Masked bandit loaded with gear, too. Nice haul.
-
Yeah, Just picked one up an hour or so ago at NWAF.

Yes, you can make a sawed-off by using the hacksaw. I've found it to be very effective at close range. As a bonus, you can store a sawed-off in a backapck.

Who Hid All The M4 Magazines? And the Mosins? And The SKS's?
PJSleaze replied to terminal_boy's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I find M4 magazines everywhere. I empty them out and leave them. -
Fire stations- especially the shelves on the first floor tend to have them. There's stations in Cherno, NWAF, and Elektro.

Reap, sow. Moving on...

Then look at the map. There are major roads up north with no signage. Lots of them. I'm not talking about the roads that are little more than dirt paths- these are wide paved roads with lines. You can follow them for hours without seeing a sign, even when they intersect. Since there's no towns either, and very few landmarks, it's easy to lose your bearings.
-
In addition to looking behind you, look up and down, especially if you know there's people around. I think it's natural to keep your head level the same and tend to focus on what is at eye-level; this can be exploited by hiding on rooftops or lying prone. I've had people run right past me while I was flat to the ground. If they had looked down, I'd have been dead.
-
No need for signs everywhere, but if you're up there and you see what looks like a major intersection, (and there are some big ones) you would expect to see something, even if it's "Elektrozavodsk - 8km" and an arrow.

Eliminates any discussion of what to do with leftovers.

I've only been playing for 2 weeks- I had no clue where I was. I'd say it took close to 2 hours to get back to anything resembling civilization. I'd run out to intersections looking for a sign... Nothing. Found a pretty cool train station up there though.

Interesting. It might push some people out of the big cities, too. Safer to wander the north/central parts of the map, develop skills for a little while before heading to the heavy combat areas, at least for lone wolf/small group players. People might be more risk averse with a highly skilled character, too.

Everything but Cherno/ Balota, (working on my gear and skills before I go there) and those little islands off the coast. Got lost way up north once. A road sign or two up there to direct you back to the game would be useful for us explorers- it's a wasteland up there. Fun to wander though.

Devils Castle would be good. Green Mountain Radio tower. Kind of a pain to go that far inland only to kill yourself though.

A lot of people won't type back because it will give away their identity. So that's a challenge, and that's why you were called a liar. Maybe you could have a few stock phrases recorded for you that you could easily trigger- "lay down!" "I'll shoot" "friendly" (if so inclined) Otherwise yeah- find a group that understands you and can help be your voice, or lone wolf it. Lone wolf will be challenging when meeting friendlier types. My first encounter with a friendly was interesting because I completely forgot what the key was to open the mic. 30 hours of solo play made it unnecessary. So after he said friendly, and I assessed that he was not a threat, I hit F1 to wave, and space to lower my gun. It got the message across.

I think I'm more afraid of huggers than shooters.

How do you deal with playing lone-wolf?
PJSleaze replied to Apocrypha8's topic in General Discussion
Yup. And if they add beards, mine's gonna be epic, -
Server population - do you gravitate to large or small?
PJSleaze replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Week 1- <10. Now that I know my way around, I'm moving up into the 10-20 range. That does seem to be a magic number for drawing server hoppers, I've been having a lot of fun harassing them up north lately. -

For you, sure. I'm in my second week, and have started turning into Retro19. I enjoy being alone and the challenge of it. You really have to stay sharp- I let my guard down the other day for 3 seconds while I opened a beer and got killed. I'm learning to take control of encounters quickly- sometimes through words (mostly with fresh spawns) but usually with bullets (everyone else). I've learned to be very stealthy and patient. Lone Wolf really teaches patience. It takes me 3-4x as long to work my way through a city or airfield, but I get out alive. To me, that's an enhanced game experience. -
That's right- no flashlight will work before you attach a battery.
-
Not to mention the sound of flattened tin cans rattling against each other as you walk or run.
-
Except empty cans disappear right away, leaving you with nothing but an embroidered shirt. I wouldn't mind seeing cans stay for a while- gives you some idea if someone has been using this house, etc.
-
Started playing anyway- no big deal, I'll just get my stuff back. But every 30 seconds or so, it skips back to where I was 10 seconds ago. Making it hard to get anywhere.
-
Yup. Just got back in, lost everything, too.
