I ran into this yesterday, too. Fully energized and hydrated, but screen stayed blurry until I adjusted video options. I'll check and see if this has been listed as a bug somewhere.

I knew a murderer once. Killed an old lady and then his girlfriend a few days later. Scary dude. But he looked normal. Nothing about him changed physically after he committed his crimes. It took the cops a few days to figure everything out and arrest him. If he'd had a magical marker, they'd have found him right away. The only way you knew something was up was if you talked to him for a while and you realized he thought he was God or something like that. The point is, you have no way of knowing in real life, not without observing or talking to them and realizing something is off. Why should you just "know" on sight that someone is a killer here? It sucks, I'm not a KOSer, but have been killed 3 times now by one. Way it goes. I just have get better at not being seen or assessing others.

Not true at all, and you're assuming too much here. If you're a lone wolf carrying both, you have the Mosin in your hands most of the time. The lack of binoculars at the moment makes this a necessity. Lone Wolves are going to be a bit more paranoid and scan areas from the treeline with the scope before they move into a potentially dangerous area. Once you get deep into cities, inside buildings, then you switch to the M4. But you might still switch again if that building offers a good vantage point to look around. So it's not just sniping; a scoped Mosin is just the best tool there is for recon right now.

I seem to start in the east. Orlovets-factory-Polana-Gorka-Dubrovka-Krasno-NEAF-Svetlojarsk. The smaller towns are usually left alone and can get you the food you need right away.The factory produces good gear- I've found guns, axes, backpacks, all kinds of good early game stuff there. Low risk until you get up towards NEAF, but by then you're healthy and armed.

Find a quiet server. Go to an airfield or a city- somewhere with lots of zombies and some space. Just be ready for someone to show up though- if you have friends in game have them on lookout for you. Practice on the zombies. That will help with the mechanics of shooting, understanding zeroing and so on, but it won't help with firefight tactics. Stay aware, stay in cover as best you can and learn from your mistakes there, because everyone makes them.

Rain will mask noise, too, which has many benefits, besides the limited visibility. I'd expect more activity during heavy rains in some areas.

To add to number 3: not just fireplaces- Ability to use stoves in some of the houses, though you never know how much gas they have. Use them to cook and to heat the room. It's a way to keep yourself warm without all of the light and smoke. Can make some houses- even ones without loot- very valuable and worth defending.

Getting zombs to follow you up the stairs will be one way to kill them. I've specifically avoided ladders for quite a while now. Just too risky, and the risk isn't worth the rewards in most places.

I'm at about a similar spot- 50 hours on one guy, about 130 for the game total. I've had some interesting confrontations too, (about half as many as you've had) and I've had whole sessions in some places where no one goes- literally getting lost and trying to get back to something recognizable. It would be fun to see where I really was during that time.

I posted something similar a few days ago too. Think of the end of Civ, when you see your borders and cities grow on the map, right? I realize it won't be interesting to people who spawn, run to Elektro, die and repeat. I've enjoyed the exploration aspect of the game and have been all over with this one character over the last 10 days or so. He will die eventually, everyone does. It would be cool to see where I went with him though when he's done.

Something about solo KOSers and NEAF. I guess they need the practice? My first week playing. I was leaving the eastern jail building at NEAF. I swung the doors open, and was greeted with a barrage of M4 fire before I could even take a step, and was hit, twice. I panicked and ran back into the building for the stairs. My attacker followed. I took a shot with my Mosin as I was running backwards up the stairs, and missed his head by a hair. He opened up with the M4 again, and hit me one more time. I was still up, but I wasn't going to last long at this rate, and there's no way I could go toe to toe against his M4 with my bolt action. I ditched the rifle for my sawed off, and worked out a plan with what little time I had left. I ran down the other end of the landing, where the loot usually is, and quietly crept my way back to the bunk room. I laid flat, my shotgun trained on the open door. My assailant must have been waiting for me to bleed out. After a minute or so, he crept up the stairs. When he got to the top, he wheeled around, expecting me to be at the end of the hallway. I hit him squarely in the chest with buckshot as he came around, and he fell. Hard. I shot him again as he laid there. I went over and took his fully modded M4 and staggered down the stairs, my world turning white. I went back through the doors I had just opened, and fell to the ground. He may have killed me, but I killed him first and took his prized M4.

Cars will give you a point? Seems like they will get you to your pointless demise quicker. Give yourself a point.

Hi. I've been here for a few weeks now, and have racked up quite a few hours of running around Chernarus already. Insomnia and a wife who travels for work leaves me with free time late at night. Fun game. Steam ID is also pjsleaze. I'm really not a sleaze, actually. In fact I'm a pretty nice guy, both in person and in game. The name goes all the way back to gaming on my friends Commodore 64 way back when and I've kept it as my nom du game ever since.

Chernarus Book Club

I've slid forward when drawing my axe while moving before. When it happened to me, I did not have any weapons drawn nor was I trying to draw one. Go stand on that piece of metal - it feels like the same thing you're talking about, but you do nothing to trigger it except go past some point.

I'm with Guppy on this- was about to write the exact same thing- you have an axe to fight off zeds. Maybe a crappy backpack. 1-2 useful items. You're still hungry, but don't have to sprint away from potential food sources if the Zs hear you. You're not a death machine carrying 2-3 guns and 300+ rounds of ammo and a weeks worth of beans yet, but you're going to try to be that guy, and you have the basic tools to try.

I was Chinese major at one point in undergrad. This was a long time ago now. I took Classical Chinese- this is sort of like asking a Chinese guy with some basic command of English to take a class on Chaucer. Hardest class ever and I barely escaped with a C. But I got to read parts of "Art of War" in the original, (even if poorly) which is one of the coolest things I can say I've done.

Exactly. Purification tabs do nothing right now- I throw them out. 1 roll of bandages is good for 4 wounds. You plan on getting shot 8 times before you find more? Test your blood and toss the syringe. Fill remaining slots with morphine/epi pens.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how the pro DayZer is like water. Or that if you know the zombies and bandits as you know yourself, you will win 100 battles without fear of losing. I'll dust off my RL copy now. Seriously, you can apply those principles in this game and it will make you a better player.
