To answer this question, I need to explain it with a past experience: So, I met this guy in a nearly deserted Berezino. I'm end-game geared and this guy has mid to low level gear. Rather than shoot him on sight, i greet him and give him supplies. He tells me he is a new player with only 3 hours of gameplay so far and wants me to show him the ropes, so i do. We go around the city for about 30 min while i I teach him a bunch of stuff. Eventually, I give him my spare magnum (cause he didn't have any ammo for his mosin) and a few rounds. 5 min after that, he shoots me in the head while I'm killing zombies and says: "Ya, I have like 120+ hours on DayZ . Not 3." This kind of behavior is worse than KoS for me, because we had already established trust and eliminated any hostility between us. This was a case of backstabbing plain and simple. This was the first time I met someone on my own so I decided to be friendly. Almost every other time I have played I have been with my friends and we have always kept a gun pointed at the person, handcuffed them, or shot them. I never understood why the guys in my group would always be so hostile. They would just tell me they've had shitty experiences and no one could be trusted. For all those out there that wonder why there are so many hostile, KoS players, it is because of assholes like the guy i met who back-stab friendly people.
