Hunting, vehicles, multiple maps, hordes, wow
hozzdutch replied to deebz1234's topic in General Discussion
didn't I read somewhere that they are re-writing the engine for SA? Hardly fair to compare it to a mod that being written to take advantage of a finished game. -
Surrender Animation should make players lootable
hozzdutch replied to KarmaCoin's topic in Suggestions
yes i like this idea. a frisking while surrendered is a lot less offensive than handcuffing too Maybe to improve on the idea, a frisk search only reveals any kind of weapon that can be removed. After all, you're doing this to remain safe, you're not not a bandit looking to steal all their gear. -
But would it? Maybe it would stop you from hitting your 'funny bone' or breaking your patella, but pads wouldn't protect the ulna, radius, humerus in your arm or the femur, tibia or fibula in your legs. They'd still be vulnerable.
-
I reckon you're just unlucky. I've played for 171 hours and not once find someone sitting in a wall.

i watched some of that. I feel sad.

Swapping item Mechanic needs one last Tweak
hozzdutch replied to ChickenMan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Dunno about you guys, but my legs can still continue moving if I'm taking off a backup and then digging around inside it for food. Maybe add a mechanic that if you are pulling something out of your pack while moving, there's a chance of tripping over (going prone). That'll teach you to not look where you're going! -
I like this idea...I was thinking this myself the other day but to expand on that - the large cooking pot. Combine the pot with the rope - the model changes to a pot with rope tied to the handle. This can then be attached to the outside of the backpack. Doing this then gives say, 2 extra separate storage slots..things could be stored inside it!

I bumped into a guy late one night at the supermarket in Berezino. He waved. I waved. He approached me and asked if I had any food I could spare. I dropped a tin. He crouched down and started to eat it. I then buried my axe into his head a few times. I almost felt guilty at that. It soon passed. That's how much I trust other players.
-
The only people I trust are the people that I know in real life that I play with. Anyone else is a stranger and deserve to be killed. Harsh? Hell no. Nine times out of 10 those bambies that people love to hug are just bandits that have not yet geared up. Why give them a chance to gear up and shoot you first? I've been attacked by bambies plenty of times. They deserve everything they get. My question is this... Why are you camping on top of a building waiting for other people? Now I may be wrong, but this sounds like the sort of behaviour of someone looking to snipe others so that they can run down and steal their gear....or just to snipe for fun. If you're looking to be friendly, surely you should be standing out in the open waiting for people rather than hiding on a rooftop...

Why putting heart attacks in game makes no sense
hozzdutch replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
I have no idea how this will work in game. besides, zombies jumping out of bushes and players shooting me when I least expect it gives me heart attacks aplenty in real life...sod heart attacks in game too :D -
I was logged in yesterday with my brother and had the most 'intense' 45 minutes in the game I've experienced yet. Thought I'd share with the world. We was heading west towards the NWAF as I had recently been killed and needed some new gear. We got as far as Grishino and the server restarted. After logging back in again, i was a mad run to get there ASAP as we knew that after a restart, it'd be a hotbed of activity (even for a mildly quiet server). We had searched the hangers, firestation and ATC tower and was in the admin building just behind the firestation in the upstairs room. As a precaution, we always close doors behind us so other people (hopefully) aren't as cautious as they could be if they thought someone else was there. We'd already been at the airfield a good 10-15 minutes and hadn't seen anyone, we was sure it was a matter of time. I was looking out the western facing windows, he was at the north facing window behind the bunk when he turned around.. 'ROB, ROB, ROB, ROB, ROB,' he shouts. 'What?' i ask still looking out the window. 'Did you open the door?' 'No...' I turn around and the second i face the door, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM. I'm dead. The guy walks in to loot my body but didn't think to check where my bro was standing - he was then shot. Before I respawn, I hear the guy talking over open mic in a diff langauge...he must have a friend nearby. I respawn just outside Solnichniy and ask my bro (Steve) to guard the loot as I'm coming back. He shuts the door and makes himself comfortable for the 15-20 minute wait. He's nervous, he knows someone is around. 5 minutes later, they have a gun fight up the staircase and despite around 10 shots each, both fail to kill eachother. 'Shit!' he says, 'he's here, we've shot at eachother and we're both still alive. I'm nervous! I don't wanna be here! my legs are wobbly, my hands are shaking! My heart is pounding! Hurry up and get here damnit!' I laugh at him..what else can I do? the rest of the run is fairly uneventful despite my brothers panic. I approach the admin building through the trees and peek around the wall...the same guy is there, camping the door waiting for my bro to come out. I only have an axe, there's no way i could sprint over to him and smack him without being killed again. By bro decides to come out and get him. 'Wait! he's walking north into the workyard' I tell him, the guy's walked off, maybe from being worried about being out in the open. Mr bro sights him in and gets a few pot shots at him. He runs behind the storage containers in the yard north of the admin building. I run in and loot all the usable gear, thankfully that includes some weapons and ammo. Steve and the guy are taking pot shots at each other, so I head out the building and run around the fence of the courtyard area to flank him. Just as I enter the courtyard, Steve gets in a lucky shot and shoots the guy in the face. I find him, loot him and just in case he's not dead, shoot him in the head a couple more times...you can't be too careful. Sighs of relief all round, we sort through the rest of the loot and plan our next step. He moves downstairs of the admin building and another guy opens the door. 'SHIT!!! There's another guy here! ROB, ROB, ROB, ROB, ROB!!!!!' Again both unload a clip each and apparently hit air. Steve retreats behind under the stairs I'm at the top of stairs, a fully loaded SKS in hand and see the other guy slowly walking around the stairs. He knows where Steve is and is switching weapons. He's fully concentrating on Steve...he doesn't look upstairs to see me. A few SKS rounds to his head...he's dead. I come downstairs and close the outside door again while Steve sorts through our newest loot delivery. We've learnt from my death upstairs. I'm crouched in the corner sights on the entrance, just in case. A few minutes later the door opens and yet another person is out there crouched..possibly expecting trouble. Don't think he expected me to have him in my sights already. BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM, BLAM. The poor guy didn't even get off a single shot. More loot! I didn't have a chance to tell poor Steve what was happening, he was round the corner and couldn't see. 'SHIT! Who's shooting! WHO'S SHOOTING! WHERE, WHERE!' His nerves are already wrecked from guarding the upstairs room for 20 minutes. That was the last guy we saw. We decided at that point to split and go for a much needed cuppa tea. Damn this game keeps you edge. Morals of the story - - When working with someone else, always have someone keep watch while the other person loots. - Never expect someone to be by themselves. - Always be wary of blindspots. - Never let your guard down when entering a building with a closed door!
-
A medical minigame sounds like a perfect way to get yourself shot. While you're busy playing this, someone else pops you and your mate in the head. Na. That won't work. I like idea 5 though :-) 6. no. It's a game.
-
ok, dead people turn into zombies. It's a fact! So, with that in mind, rather than having players corpses disappear, instead of after 10 minutes, the body disappears, the corpse should just get up and become a zombie. Although the zombie is too stupid to use the gear that it might be carrying, it'll make zombies a little more interesting if we can loot something from them.
-
ok this is alpha, there is no intro, no story, nothing I've been able to find. Please tell me where this fabled lore is so i can go and have a read!
-
The way I see it, normal zombies stay as they are with no loot. The only lootable ones are dead players and then, only a portion of the stuff the dead player was carrying remains lootable.
-
..or at least be able to loot some of the gear...make a random selection of the gear on the zombie become ruined.

Craftable dog tags - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/171333-dog-tags-good-or-bad-idea/page-2#entry1767742 -
I do like this idea, another use for a torn up t-shirt!

I don't think this would fit into the 'story' of the world. For an alarm system like this, you would need power. There seems to be a distinct lack of electricity in this world. On top of that, you'd need operating telephones exchanges and whatever else to be able to send the message to your phone. And again, they'd need electricity. Considering the state of every other building in the game, any telephone exchanged would also be ripped to shreds and not be in any functional state. I think it's a good idea, but just not one fit for the world you want it in.

I like the idea of eating a can of food and then using the can to collect water. If you move around with an open can of water, it would gradually empty (the % lost depends on moving speed and how long you move for). This can then be emptied into a canteen or bottle if you have one handy. It would also solve that annoying little niggle (for me anyway) where you appear to eat the can when you've finished the food content inside :D

I like the idea of dog tags..but not as a default item. Give the player character the ability to equip necklaces. There are those workshop type buildings with 2 rows of 4 machines in them, perhaps they could have a press in them that allows you to create a dogtag that could be worn. The dogtag is automatically generated to give known information, ie characters name, blood type (if it's been tested since you've respawned) and maybe some other information (I can't think of anything else useful). it could then be taken one step further where you have to find the materials to create togtags -piece of metal for the tag itself, image stensil (have different ones) to allow the addition of a image on the tag, maybe an alphabet stencil to allow words to created on the tag. This could then also allow another type of loot in game - jewellery, necklaces and such.

That would most likely require a major upgrade to the coding. Any different colours at the moment would be down to the textures created for the items. For different areas of items to dynamically change would be a massive undertaking that can't be done with normal textures. If it was to be implemented at any point, it most likely wouldn't happen until way, way down the line. It would be cool though :D

After playing for a week or so on dayz now, I've turned into a heartless bastard. Too many times have I been killed by people who acted friendly to start with. Too many times have I been killed by people who appeared to ignore me and then turn on me and shoot when my back was turned. Now I kill on sight. If i see someone with basic gear, still trying to get their stuff together, I still kill on sight. This person is just going to be my murderer when they find a weapon of their own.
