Having a gun makes you a point of interest for many players. Unfortunately most think that a) you're more dangerous by nature of having a gun, therefore steps taken in self-preservation is bumped up, or b) you have gun = having rare loot, therefore kill and take. This is utter nonsense of course, having a gun doesn't physically change the nature of you're character besides having the gun, but in this game perception is important as it determines whether you get killed on sight or mostly ignored. I've been killed for shooting zombies because someone just happened to be nearby and saw me firing a magnum and acted to neutralize a perceived threat.
