500 - 1000m would be well within range of the big rifles, and would put anyone on overwatch (on the boat) at a crazy disadvantage... Maybe 1km to 1500m - still in good range for a 50cal, but crosswinds over water would kick in and make for a tough shot?

During which time you've died how many times, and you're never able to lose the 'shakes' because I've pitched my tents on the sniper hill outside of electro, and my AS50 can put you down from over a KM away? I'm not sure why the threat of me getting shot would stop me from shooting you. That's the part I'm not getting. Maybe you can elaborate on that? e- noticed your stealth edit. When I said people like you, I meant babies who qq about PKing.

Feature: Replace infection with 'Zombism' infection.

That's a great tweak on the idea, alexander_q. It'd also force groups of players to make that terrible decision when they realise they haven't any antibiotics - but a solo player might wind up leaving a zombie in the middle of a forest somewhere. -
Ummmmm what about the people who are surviving for weeks on end and also killing people like you for fun? Your new system would just make it easier on us.

Feature: Replace infection with 'Zombism' infection.

I don't think players should be zombies. The thing about zombies is that they are an absence of humanity. Sentience, emotion, logic, all the things that make us human - a zombie is the diametric opposite of this. This is what makes the zombie good for its primary purpose - as a counter-point to the slowly diminishing humanity present in the survivors around us. Zombie literature/media uses the zombie to draw a line in the sand - when a person crosses that line, should they even live any more? The concept of the player zombie is counter to this in every way, for what I think are obvious reasons. DayZ is the only zombie game I've ever played (and I've played most of them) where the focus isn't on the zombies but on the real point of the zombie phenomenon... the interactions between humans with the infected creating a threatening atmosphere impeding survival. -
He found two guns and got you so raged that you're campaigning against pking on the forums. He deserves a medal.

READ: Non Lethal / Lethal weapon Suggestions

Look, I know there's a heavy concept of realism about this game, and that's fine... still. I think ghosts would take this game from pretty tense to balls to the wall terrifying in no time flat. I'm not talking about ethereal union generals wandering the plains, or idiots in white sheets. I'd like to see a ghost NPC added - a little similar to MOUSE's suggestion http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=787&highlight=ghost (I can't work out how to link) but instead of being an enemy it would be a passive spawn, like a rabbit or something. It spawns at random, with nowhere near the regularity of rabbits of course, and when it appears it just wanders about. Ideally it would appear near groups of two or more people, and I'd be open to people being able to see it using Thermals. EDIT - From further in the thread, because people can't seem to get over the word Ghosts, Allow me to set the scene for you. A squad of five have just raided a crashed heli north of Prud, scoring some valuable Bizon ammo and new NVGs. Tensions are running high because the sightlines to the chopper were long and before they scored the Bizon ammo they'd had to rely on loud weapons. As they make their way to Devil's they stop for a while to check their perimeter/go whiz. Suddenly walking noises appear nearby, coming ever closer. The footsteps crunch, making a beeline directly for them, and those at their computer are flipping out. Maybe the ghost goes into a belly crawl for a bit, and they hear the rustling of the leaves as the body drags itself along. It makes no other noise except the sounds of a human figure moving towards this group. Suddenly it stops. Some people still aren't checking in, so they can't identify all the bodies in the area. People are freaking out... and then everyone gets back from their bio break and checks in. Still, any decent group would wait another 5 minutes to identify the sound, and then maybe just right it off. Or maybe they do something stupid instead... Ok I updated the OP to make it clear that this is not about anything paranormal. Apparently people don't RTFT before they post.

I died because my net dropped out while I was in Zub and when I spawned back in I had spawned 10m above the ground and I died. One of us has all his gear back because he legged it back to Zub and the other one has a smug sense of stoic superiority. I'm ok with how this worked out.
-
You've never died to a glitch, obviously. I'm not giving up my gear because a zombie kills me by hitting me through a floor or because spawning in some buildings gets you killed immediately.
-
The thing is, a good player - bandit or not - will not put themselves in a situation where they can be seen by another player. So of course a lot of kills occur from outside your field of vision. If you were looting Devil's and I saw you I'd put you down before you saw me because A: you're stealing all my floor beans and B: You'd logically shoot me for stealing all your floor beans.
-
You've been killed only twice and you're already whinging about bandits. Good lord.
-
You are a new person when you respawn. Personally, if you've ever died because you made the mistake of logging out in one of the Castles and you've then made the 30 minute sprint back to your body and all your stuff is still there... you earned that gear. Edit - I realise there's some specious reasoning in my post (new person, earned gear) but mannnn, isn't it bad enough that you had to spend all that time running back to your corpse with the off chance that someone knicked it?
-
That'd be pretty rough dude. Even without weird AI stuff, that'd still be super bloody rough. I'd play it, but it'd make towns almost worthless as a solo player.

What happens when you cross this ethereal line? People just don't take damage from your hits? What if you stand south of the safe line and fire into the north?

Solution for server hoping to gain position.
joaby replied to PintOfBass's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A man named GOB, Rocket already has a solution idea in place for what you're talking about, This is about dcing and then Reconnecting in a different spot to get the drop on people. Far worse than simply dcing, it's a bs move. -
I question whether you've ever had 'so e thought' in your life, macish. Clearly the word 'ghost' is driving people off point. The ghost thing is just a name that I used to illustrate the core point of the addition - an invisible entity designed to create panic in group situations where players feel increased power and (as a result) diminished fear.

I think with all the running you do in this game over-heating might be too great a punishment for wearing ghillie? Increased water consumption is a great idea though.

some sort of weird double post edit mistake of mine.

Edit - To Callaghan, who helpfully writes,
-
Why not? You're all saying "no, just no" or some variant but nobody is throwing out any reasons why not except for 'it's not realistic' which, when talking about a zombie game, is really, really dumb.

See I just dunno about that Xelacalle. The idea of there being (relative) safety in numbers would still exist, because this event's effectiveness is predicated on its rarity. But when it DOES happen, people would lose their minds. It would throw the whole group balance off. And of course, it'd be an amazing source for what this mod is really about... Player created stories.
