  1. Had a chance to visit your server yesterday but unfortunately my connection gave up before experiencing anything :( I'm looking forward to playing more with you guys :D
  2. (yeah, I know, those guys could be characterized as KoSers, not bandits, but I had no idea what title to give) First of all, let me tell you something about me. I suck at DayZ. Meaning, I suck at firefights. I play really good in a team, and with proper communication and cover I can even be considered an asset. Some times. But playing solo? That's a whole different story. I can be geared and armed to the teeth and still a bambi with a baseball bat can take me down. I mention this because it will bring the following story into context. This morning I decided to hop on the experimental branch. I spawned in Komarovo and immediately looted a police car near the main road, where I found a helmet, an mp5 and an FNX45 with a single magazine and a box of rounds. I went to check the police station where I found some 9mm rounds, police pants and a visor for my helmet. At that moment I was ready to suicide on top of the building. I had my finger on the F11 button when I heard someone calling me. I peeked from the top and saw two players looking up at me, calling me to come down. One of them was holding a firefighter axe, the other a double-barreled shotgun but he wasn't pointing it at me. I immediately thought, "well, they should be friendly, they could have stormed the building or camp but they di"... *downstair door opens*. Uh oh. That could mean only two things: One, a third player managed to find us. Possible, but on experimental, in Komarovo, with only 8 players on the server? Two, there is a third guy who was trying to sneak up to me, in other words it's a trap. And those two are the bait. My gut told me it was the latter. I thought of trying to kill them from the top while I still had a slight advantage, but decided to yolo it, after all I -was- ready to take my own life, right? I went down, pistol still in my pants (wink, wink) and shouted "yo". - "What did you say?" the first player said, while approaching me holding the firefighter axe on his hands. - "Me? Erm, yo?" I replied thinking they could be talking to the third guy. - "Did you just tell me to go f**k myself?" he asked, still holding the axe. I was about to answer something witty (like, "if I wanted to tell you to go f**k yourself, I would") but immediately the player raised the axe, ready to hit me. "Here we go". I tried to dodge, shouting "NOPE!" but he managed to hit me once. I started running around on the street, when the second guy, the one with the shotgun, fired two shots at me, one hitting my torso. After a bit of running up and down the main road, and the occasional circles around those two so-called bandits, the second guy was out of ammo, and started chasing me with his axe too. Looking back I saw the third player, armed with another shotgun, joining the other two on my tail. I was already low on blood, so I decided to make a stand. I knew I would die, it was a matter of time, and let me remind you I actually wanted to die from the start. But, I wouldn't go down alone. Even if I didn't manage to kill one of them, I sure was gonna hurt their ego. I bet I had already ruined some of their gear, having fired a total of two magazines on both of them, hell, at least half the bullets must have hit something. It was time to finish the job. Preferably with at least one of them on the ground. I ran behind a wooden fence, raised my pistol and waited for even one of them to turn around the corner. He did, shouting something along the lines of "we just want to harvest your meat" (lol) and I started to fire, but at the same time I got attacked from behind. The firefighter axe guy managed to break my legs, and I fell to the ground, while both of them were trying to hit me. At that moment I saw the third guy emerge from the corner. He looked like he was better geared than the other two, can't even remember what he wore, it just looked like that. Good. Let's ruin everything. Just as he raised his shotgun, I unloaded the rest of the magazine on him. Right after firing the last bullet I saw him drop dead. At that moment I decided to call it a day and let them waste me. After a couple of hits, naturally, I was dead. Piece of advice lads. If the three of you, armed with two shotguns (even with limited ammo) and two different axes, cannot kill a noob armed with a pistol and a single magazine, then you're doing something very, very wrong. For starters, next time you want to kill someone, do it when he least expects it, not when he's absolutely sure he's a target. Fun fight though ;)
  3. Hello people, I would like to ask about a weird issue I've been experiencing with DayZ audio, in order to know if it's a bug with the game itself, or if something could be wrong with my setup. Let's say there's a zombie on my right, making the usual zombie/aggro sound. Of course on my speakers/headset I hear the zombie sound coming from the right. Now, if I immediately turn my character 180 degrees, I should be hearing the zombie on my left, right? Nope, I still hear the same sound coming from the right... If the zombie screams/rages/aggros again, then I hear the sound correctly on my left. If I turn 180 degrees, still on my left and so forth Anyone else experiencing this? Could it be an issue of my hardware (SB Audigy 5/Rx) or are there any other similar reports, so I should report it to the bug tracker as an issue with the game itself? Thank you in advance!

    Anyone ever 'played zombie'?

Playing zombie...hmm not very interesting. Playing dead, now that's a whole different story. I remember watching an ArmA 3 video, wasteland or something, where the player was able to play dead, killing whoever came close. I see much potential in that :D
  5. I don't consider myself to be a bandit or a KoS'er. In over 1000 hours of gameplay I have killed exactly three players on sight (none of them freshspawns) and I have held up or tortured zero. I really want to turn bandit for an hour sometime, just for kicks, but usually when I log in with that purpose in mind, I end up playing as a survivor or a hero. Well last night was one of those nights. I decided to log in and find a poor soul to troll just for laughs, plus I had my buddy watching the game on steam broadcast provoking me to kill someone and eat him. I logged in Kamyshovo and quickly got killed by a player. No suprises there. I spawned near Kamyshovo again and run to Elektro, which was completely empty of loot and players. I walked all the way to Cherno where I met a girl while looting. We talked for a bit (btw the phrase "are you actually female?" apparently alienates female players  ), I offered some food and protection towards Balota but she went her own way, a minute before the server restarted. At that moment I knew history repeated itself: no banditry tonight. I quickly switched to another full server, hoping to find some friendly players and tag along. I logged in and started running towards the fire station. While I was looting I heard shots coming from the factory. I quickly scouted it out behind cover, and found my soon-to-be target. He was camping on this building, apparently trying to snipe players. (apologies for the size/quality, didn't find a better one) He was hiding in the half-floor between those huge tanks. I could distinguish his hunter's backpack from a distance and, as far as I could tell (erm, hear) he had an SKS. Now, I only had an M1911 with 5 bullets left, an lzh42 shotgun with two snaploaders and 8 more buckshots. Time was running out, I had to leave in about ten minutes, my buddy on the stream was taunting me, so I decided to YOLO it. What the hell, right? Nothing to lose there, even if I didn't manage to kill him, at least I'd try to cause him as much damage as possible. I quickly run up the stairs on the other side of the building and started sprinting on the small metal corridor towards the roof (to the right of the picture). He noticed me right as I was approaching it, so I quickly took cover behind the triangular sunroof. My heart pounding, my M1911 in my hands and ready to fire, my mind telling me "what the hell did you just drag yourself into?". He came out of the stairs and I immediately unloaded the pistol on him. I hit him only once, and he took cover on the other side of the sunroof. I quickly switched to my shotgun and waited. He then emerged from cover firing his SKS and I shot twice. One round hit him again (his hand I believe) but he was still alive and walking, so again he took cover behind the sunroof. The worst thing is, he did manage to break my legs. Now I was lying there behind cover, bleeding profoundly, losing color fast, and unable to do anything. Dammit. In the heat of the moment I forgot I had two loaded and ready snaploaders. Instead, I opened my inventory, manually loaded the shottie, and waited for a couple of seconds (which seemed like hours) trying to figure out his next move. I knew I didn't have much time, my screen was already grey, I was only hoping he would do something fast. Why the hell was he waiting? I had broken legs, a shotgun with limited accuracy, he had an SKS and could walk, he could just run around shooting me from 3PP. He actually decided to attack me from the top of the sunroof. It's triangular shaped, so I managed to see his head emerge before he was able to shoot. I fired two more shots towards him as fast as I could, while screaming "you're f***ing worthless mate". I saw his body falling to the ground, his weapon and axe suspended in mid-air. One second later, I was unconscious. I waited a couple of minutes in case I managed to wake up before I bled to death, but eventually I died. Well now I know. For me, the satisfaction of killing bandits/KoS'ers, even if I eventually die, beats being a bandit myself. By miles.

    R.I.P. Thread, characters before wipe

That's me, after looting Vybor, NEAF and the military base. When I found out that there's gonna be a wipe I thought "what the hell", I logged in, I donated all my gear to a couple of guys I found in the NEAF (they would take better care of it, I would drop dead before firing a shot, being a complete noob and all) and then started fresh :D
  7. akpe

    I'm very sorry!

Nope, that's not combat logging. Next time just wait a bit. You may get up sooner than your opponent expects and, if he wasn't careful (he didn't kill you and you still have your gun in your hands or in your backpack/pants etc) you can still bring him down. Happened to me numerous times and it feels awesome :D
  8. Really depends. We just met two guys in Berezino who, after we killed all five zombies chasing them, proceeded to shoot my buddy in the face while he was bandaging. Killed both of them, thanks for the LRS guys ;) P.S: If you really wanna play as a "bandit" (KoSer) and you decide to attack a group of two, remember three things: - always kill the armed one first, - always keep line of sight with the second player - lose the LRS, it sucks in close range combat

    Blank world after lost session

I might be wrong, but try going into your video settings. I had the same issue after logging out while injured (you know, when you lose color) and when I logged back in it seemed somehow everything was grey like I was stuck zooming at a wall. Just opening my video settings helped un-stick (lol) it, just like it "fixes" blurriness when you're injured. Give it a try.

    Rubber banding patch

After stress-testing the patch I guess, and if the stress test is successful. BTW does anyone know how we could force the update on steam? I still haven't got any updates :(

Strange alarm next to Svetlojarsk (Guba)

I also heard this siren while looting the ship at RIfy, seemed to be coming straight from the ship. I searched around for any players but found no one. I doubt it was someone messing with me since right after that I met another player in the helicopter ruins, he also heard it and he was too far away for voice chat. Sounded nothing like the one in the video posted by quantum2k6 though.

Best places for loot? New to DayZ

Seriously, I was away for a while (Epoch cured my SA addiction) and when I jumped back in I was like, what the hell, everyone in Elektro moved to Berezino?! The amount of players (and bandits camping inside the buildings) is too damn high compared to the old "Elektro days". Bodies everywhere, loot is scarce (except some handguns on police cars which are not so easy to spot), shots fired every couple of minutes. Still there are a lot of friendly players around, however bandits are usually in groups and are able to ambush, trap, or outmaneuver them and bring them down easy even if they team up. Just yesterday I came across four different bandit groups on three different servers. It was crazy. By the way, just in case: Hey, you bandit guys, the ones we (as fresh spawns) chased all the way from Berezino to Rify: Seriously, it took you two players with an axe and a shovel, a third one with a sporter rifle and 20+ rounds and about five whole minutes to bring me down? I had just one pickaxe ffs, get your act together! :D
  13. I can totally relate! After about two full hours of aimlessly wandering around the beach to find some fresh spawns, I managed to find one in Solnichniy. He asked me if I had any food so I gave him two full cans and a full cantine. We chatted a bit, he asked if he can join me, I said I'm mostly wandering to help fresh spawns, he thanked me and went on his way. A second player came right behind him, we greeted each other, I asked if he needed anything, he said no and we parted ways. As I was walking north I took a look behind my back just in case I was being followed, when i saw the first player running way fast! At first I thought it was lag or something... that's when I saw the second player coming back. I approached him again just in case he forgot something, he just said "hey, did you see that guy? He was hacking.". That's when I knew... I find ONE player to help, I give him what is probably considered gold for many fresh spawns, and he was a speedhacker. Sigh. At least I helped the second guy after getting attacked by a zombie, killed the Zed, have him bandages and a couple of cans and sodas to replenish blood. That's something...
  14. In general, what Regulator Lone said works for me. I just warn them that if I feel threatened in any way I will fire. Yay story time! My most intense confrontation was up at NEAF. And I say intense because I didn't know if I he was hostile or friendly. I mean yeah, having a brushfire with a bandit is pretty much intense, but I think it's even worse when you actually don't know what you're up against. I was going solo and met a friendly player inside the west prison. He informed me there is another guy, probably hostile, near the tower. We decided to check it out, carefully approached the tower and saw him just as he entered the east prison and closed the door behind him. So we took cover behind the building's corners, while leaning to cover the entrance and I decided to go on microphone. We were two, we already knew his position, he could not shoot at us even through the prison cell, so we had the advantage. I kindly greeted him with a hello and told him we are friendly. No response. I told him if he didn't have a microphone he could type in text. Nothing. I even asked him to shoot one round in a wall if he could hear me, nothing. I was starting to worry. Heart pounding and all. Friendly or bandit? Was he just scared to make contact, or was he contemplating a plan to take us both down? Finally I said "dude, we're friendly, please come out of the building with your weapon on your back. Do not have your weapon in your hands or we will fire". The doors opened, first thing I saw was a mosin. Raised my sights and was ready to take him out while shouting something along the lines of "put your weapon down now". I don't know if he willingly came out with his weapon in hand planning to kill us, then saw our gear and changed his mind, or if he just couldn't understand us at first, but he immediately put the mosin on his back and raised his hands. About two milliseconds before I pulled the trigger. Man I was ready to waste him but good thing I remained calm. Turns out he didn't have a microphone but he probably could hear and understand us. We ended up lootin the NEAF, Krasno and parted ways after an hour or so.

    Anyone else paranoid?

Is being paranoid that bad? In DayZ, no. It's one thing to believe everyone's out to get you, quite another when it's actually true.
  16. lol first time I thought of communication while being unconscious was after a brushfire I had with another player on top of the tower at the NEAF. He managed to drop me and when pressing ESC I saw three (!) guys over my body, looting my precious stuff. Seriously, it was the one time I was able to find two morphine injectors and three can openers, all pristine >:( Being against three of them, all armed with M4s as I could see, I did not have a chance even if I regained consciousness and was able to shoot first. So I just thought to give them a hint. Still unconscious, I verbally communicated. "Dudes, just confirm the kill, I might be able to get up and put you down". They did nothing. I typed it on text chat, nothing. Around that time I woke up and emptied a 60 round magazine on them, I think I managed to kill one of them and drop another one before falling unconscious again. Went on the microphone again, "now will you confirm the kill or shall we do this again"? At that exact time, I died. I heard no gunshot though, so probably I ran out of blood, and all three of them are still wondering what the hell I was talking about  (so, rule #1: always confirm a kill, rule #2 take that weapon off their hands ASAP)
  17. akpe

    What are your loot cycle?

Berezino, Khelm, Krasnostav, NEAF, die, repeat. Alternatively, Kamyshovo, Elektro, Cherno, Balota, Zeleno, Pogorevka, Military Base, Vybor, NWAF, die, repeat.
  18. Just a quick hint, something I've learned the hard way. If you see another player and he does not see you, do not speak to him using the microphone. If you do so you will lose any advantage, if he's not friendly he will most likely be able to pinpoint your location and plan his attack. Use the text chat instead.
  19. He's probably east of Berezino, at the factory. Tsquire3, I'm not officially a medic, but If no-one is able to help you by the time I wake up tomorrow (or if you happen to log in before I go to sleep) I've got some extra morphine, and I'm close, near Khelm. PM me your steam nickname and we'll arrange a meeting.
  20. akpe

    To that one KOSer

Perhaps a stupid question, but when unconscious other players can still year you and see your texts, right? Someone knocked me down yesterday on the NEAF after I killed his bandit buddy. I was only unconscious and it did not seem I'd be getting up any time sooner. So I was shouting and writing to them to "ffs guys, at least confirm the kill, plant one on my brain, I'd probably get right back up and off you :P" (has happened before). But they just looted me and left. After about two minutes I respawned out of boredom. In general, at first I was always pissed of when KoS'ed. I ranted on the microphone like a ten year old. Now I just play along, you know, "good kill", "enjoy the gear, hope you ruined it all" etc :D No hard feelings to anyone!
  21. akpe

What happens if you log out?

I've seen the same, about ten seconds. Maybe the logout timer goes up to 30 seconds depending on how long you have played on se server? For example, 30 seconds for someone who has been playing for ten minutes, and 10 seconds for someone who stayed for over an hour? Just wondering.
  22. akpe

    Im at my breaking point

I can only remember two, maybe three other games which made me genuinely scared. DayZ SA trumps all of them. I mean, damn, I already have about 50 hours on record and still I act like a scared chipmunk when having to go through a town or worse, when I see another armed player. Zombies don't scare me so much unless I suddenly stumble upon one while opening a door or exiting a building, like Pvt_Larry said. But you know what they say... It's one thing to believe everyone's out to get you, quite another when it's actually true. I'm sure gonna miss this feeling once I get a couple of hundred hours on record...
  23. So I was looting the NEA when I came across a guy coming out of the east jail. Contacted him verbally (no need to use text chat, he saw me) and he immediately raised his weapon and fired at me. After returning fire for a while, I climbed on top of the tower, using the outside stairs. Long story short, after a small brushfire, I got knocked unconscious. What happened after that was weird. I pushed ESC ready to respawn, but noticed I could see my character lying down, as well my surroundings. So I pressed ESC again, and somehow I had regained consciousness! Is it possible I was only unconscious for a maximum of ten seconds, or I just found out a weird bug? As for what happened next...The other guy was lying down next to me, probably looking through my stuff, so naturally I emptied the rest of my magazine on him. He managed to fire a few shots as well but eventually I killed him. I was losing blood so I panicked and immediately started bandaging myself... big mistake. Turns out there was a second guy, which I never suspected on being there. He heard me apply the bandage, came up the tower staircase and shot me dead, while I could not cancel the bandaging and raise my m4. Well, at least it was a good fight...
  24. I was healthy or healing, actually I was recovering from an earlier shot but my blood was probably full at that time. What troubles me is that it took way less than 30 seconds to get up again, about five to ten if I remember correctly. BTW it's not that I managed to kill one of them (although as a CQB Bambi I expected way less), it's the way I did... "Nice he's down... let's see what he's got... BANG BANG BANG"
  25. I was at the military base south of Vybor to search for ammo. While searching the upper prison floor the server restarted/crashed, which literally gave me tachycardia... what if I spawn next to a bandit in the next server? What if I spawn on top of a zombie and I don't have the time to raise my axe? What if the sky falls down on me? What if Justin Bieber does not retire? You get the idea. Well I waited a bit and tried another server, having no close combat experience I picked a relatively empty one, just to manage to get the hell out of there safely. Hmm, 5 players, that's good, what are the chances of spawning right next to one, right? Wrong. I spawned inside the prison again, this time it was the ground floor. Not ten seconds later, I heard someone reloading an SKS on the upper floor. All doors were closed, so he must have also just spawned. He was in the middle of the stairs, going up. I could see his bayonet sticking below them. I took cover below the stairs and immediately made contact though text and voice chat. The second was a BIG MISTAKE. Should have just used text chat, now with voice he has already pinpointed my location. "Hello, friendly". No response. "Please lower your weapon". No response. I typed "friendly", again nothing. He leaned, saw me, and went up the stairs. He typed something along the lines of "hey", can't remember exactly what. I typed and asked him if he had a mic. Nothing. I leaned right and saw him on the top of the stairs, weapon ready, aiming at me. I took cover, went on voice and told him "I can seeee you!". Again no response. I could see his left shoulder, he was crouched on top of the ledge overlooking the stairs, moving left and right, obviously to get a clear shot. I had his shoulder aimed through the small opening, and went on voice again. "Man if you don't lower your weapon I -will- shoot, last warning". Nothing. Took a small step to the right, exposing my shoulder and weapon, and fired some warning shots on the ceiling above him (which probably hit the back of the stairs), then went back into cover. Second mistake. Even if I had a small chance of a friendly encounter (judging by his lack of communication I did not, but for the sake of argument...) that chance was now gone. He did not move a muscle, at least I heard nothing. I took another small step, and he fired a couple of shots, I literally said "heeere we go" and returned fire. The second time he fired, one round hit me. I returned fire, again without hitting him and crawled back to my comfy cover to bandage myself. That was it. He had a clear advantage so I either stayed there and died, or tried to make a run for it and seek better cover. I decided to do the latter. I ran straight for the exit, went right, took cover behind a car and waited for him to come out. As much as I hate being Killed on Sight, I was definitely going to shoot first and ask questions later. I waited for a couple of minutes, my vision blurry, my heard pounding, nothing. Exited through the south gate and followed the wall north, maybe to get a better position. After a couple of minutes I heard a distant shot from the base, could have been him engaging a zombie, but it was enough to make me run for the hills trees. It's now three to four minutes after the encounter and I'm covered somewhere at the treeline east of the base, leading to Kabanino. My vision, is still blurry, I can't even distinguish a human figure with the scope, and I had no idea how blurry vision can be worked around. I waited a bit and started retreating towards east, crouched and using the trees as cover. When I reached the deer stand, towards the end of the road, I sprinted towards the city and took cover somewhere in the trees. My vision was still blurry so, I had to eat and drink until energized/hydrated. But since I could not see anything past twenty meters, I decided to take the chance and log off (about five minutes after the brushfire, hence the combat log), so I could stuff myself the next time I play, preferably with my buddies around. I waited another ten to twenty seconds, just in case he appeared from somewhere and took me out of my misery, and logged off. So there it goes,,, "Hi, my name is akpe, and I'm a combat logger"... and a coward.
