How long is he sticking around for again? -
Just curious what most people do when they die. Do you run naked and attempt to mug someone well outfitted and get gear back immediately (zerg approach)? Do you log into an underpopulated server and hope good loot spawns are available? Do you log into an overpopulated server and aimlessly run around already looted areas starving until you die? Do you log out in a fit of rage and troll the boards about how ridiculous it was that you died and how it's someone else's fault and everything is broken? The other night it was quite amazing, I was on a very populated server and I swear I was getting zerged from every direction by fresh spawns trying to knock me out Mike Tyson style. There must have been 10 people in 10 minutes that had no gear that tried to knock me out as if "the knock out game" was a part of DayZ.

Oh fun - all geared up 12 hours ago, now naked. Fun.

I was last on a Battleeye server, I forget which, I but I do recall the "X player is losing connection" messages. It's a joke. Wasting time and money. The alpha umbrella is not protection from scrutiny - paid players shouldn't get wiped. If you wipe paid players why not gear them up instead??? It's equally as reasonable to do. -

Trolls - who pays for the game (and how)? I'm simply putting on notice that wiping should come with significant alert. There is an end product that appears to be an MMORPG that is a monthly (or yearly) license - having hours of effort erased won't be tolerated then, and shouldn't be tolerated now. I didn't pay $30 to get ass fucked, I paid to to play a fun game and that's incomplete but not get fucked in the arse. -
Seriously do something to the blood loss.......

I'm still trying to figure out how a zombie hit you in the first place. If you're running it's basically impossible for them to hit you at all. You must have been drunk, taunting someone, trying to snipe and not paying attention, etc. Remember that gun fire draws them in like fat kids to cake. -
How you died in DayZ... a witness account.
Death By Crowbar replied to Meekalew's topic in General Discussion
I hate zombies that fall on me! To the person who posts below me, I saw you die in this manner: You were one of a gang of 3 bandits holding someone hostage, force feeding them anything you can find after already giving them disinfectant spray. A single ax wielding naked guy runs up to you and your bandit friends and causes a little panic but gets gunned down... and in the process you get shot by friendly fire. You're on the ground bleeding out right under your hostage, but noone has any rags or anything to help you. Just before you black out and go unconscious, the disinfectant and rotten food you fed your hostage kicks in and he vomits right on you. You are dead, but then again, so is he! -
Deep thoughts, I'm pondering the ways of the universe. How can something rotten be pristine? Is that the best state of rotten? It's almost like a double negative, a ruined rotten apple must be in great shape then?

your first interaction with another player
Death By Crowbar replied to tyleranator's topic in General Discussion
My first interaction was some guy ran up past me waving (looked like a new spawn) and the second I stopped I was gunned down by machine gun fire. I'm assuming he was a decoy for a 2 man bandit cell. I learned quickly to always look around and keep my eyes open... -
Is there any sort of meelee weapon damage ranking that exists anywhere? I've been trying to sort this out. I know that the Fire Ax and Splitting Ax are typically the best, but I've found that the Fire Extinguisher is more effective than the crowbar, which is shocking... unless it was a fluke.

Meelee weapon damange ranking?

My god... it must have taken that guy literally HOURS of running to test each of those considering that he dies every time. -

Lack of understanding / believing them also reveal the type of programmer you are. There's a vast difference between a startup swiss army knife (one to fit all problems) programmer vs an enterprise "cushie" programmer. Who even uses the term "programmer"? Noone who would work at companies such as Bloomberg, ESPN, Google, or any of the major game shops. "Programmer" is not a title you put on a resume. It's bunk, it's garbage, it shows inexperience and invalidates your opinion. -

Creed of any good software shop - BUGS COME FIRST. There's a disjunct here, either you can't fix the major problems or you wont'. Can't and won't are the same thing - with Dean leaving in the next few months show us progress on the real BIG bugs or you will see defection that is revenue breaking. Decide, make the right choice, show us you have the chops. ... or if you can't hire me to help. -
I'm Bicrius, errrr, Death By Crowbar and I demand respect. I had pwnage in EQ1 on Luclin Server and also HL2 on the MIA/POW servers as well as CYCO servers. I was a member of all of them, and still am on HL2. I will pick up a crowbar and drive it through your skullface. No disrespect, but I'm out to win and kill anyone in my virtual path. Happy hunting and it hurts less to stand still and take it like a man!

Results speak. If all those hires happened and they were quality - we'll see results. If they were mass hires to apease clients and investors - expect a downward turn, and an immediate downward turn. They either have a plan or their investors have pressured them into repeating the "sins of old". -

In fact anytime a firm hires a dozen or so folks to replace (or replace talk of) a single person leaving it's usually a sign of them taking a downward spiral / turn. Day Z has some pants to fill (or not) very quickly. We'll know within a week or two whether this will be a good thing or whether we should log into RUST and wave our shlongs around. -

That's the concern. Startups typically have a "white knight" that makes or breaks them. Dean has that persona now as far as everyone is aware, until someone arises that it's clear they have the chops to take it and run with it everyone will be concerned. This has been seen time and time again. And anyime a firm hires nearly a dozen people to replace one it's never, never a good sign. -
Oh, wonderful - you hired how many people to add cooking? You added HOW MANY PEOPLE TO REPLACE ONE IRREPLACEABLE RESOURCE? In the industry there's a term - bankable assets. When you have someone who is irreplaceable you pay them whatever they need, irreplaceable. I'll bet the 12-20 people hired will have nothing to do with any of the following areas of concern: Zombie pathing and vision - they come through walls or whatever they want whether they can see you or not to attack you. And when they do attack you their AI is laughable. Just strafe around them and because they attack linearly they'll never hit you. I can barehand kill an infinite volume of zombies as if it were a joke. Object pathing and boundaries - why can an log out in a tower, then log back in and arm a weapon only to suddenly fall to my death for no reason? Why can a zombie attack me from nowhere and knock me into the walls of a building where I ultimately get stuck?Forget baking, farming, or whatever - these are they types of issues that the users want addressed. If the manpower you've obtained doesn't have the chops to tackle this small piece of work - fire them all and look for new management. That's a challenge, please rise to it.

One of many bugs. I've posted about this before. It's alpha, a great fun game but with many many many things not working properly (for better or for humor).

With Dean Hall leaving - there are big shoes to fill. My main question is - can the litany of major problems as follows be solved WITHOUT Dean Hall? All of these have been problems without resolution for quite some time. As someone who's purchased the game (I know, ALPHA expect nothing, if you say that punch yourself) there's a certain amount of expectations put on fixing glaring issues. There's a large contingent of the community that will simply not put up with certain bugs/development plans going unresolved. That list includes: Zombies being far to stupid/weak. Zombies pathing through anything they desire, walls, buildings, etc. Structural integrity being a joke (zone out in a building and fall to your death, a zombie pushing you inside a wall of a building from which you can never escape, odd noises funneling to you from across the server, etc)\ Issues surrounding server hopping and loot farmingThe devs are focusing on adding a lot of content to the game, but until they fix the clearly broken content they're going to struggle. The real question is whether or not with Dean Hall leaving the remaining Dev crew has the chops to fix the truly major issues plaguing the game. I'm giving it 1-3 months to see if these mechanical issues can be fixed or not before throwing in the towel and moving on to something else. If they cannot fix the major bugs then what's the point? -
I log out in a tower near the cost yesterday or the day before. So tonight while the lame Oscars are on I log back in and try to check things out. However, the second I arm my SKS I fall out of the tower to my death. Really? Can we get the pathing, wall interaction, vertical issues some priority? Never camping again while up high, what a crock of shit. Hoping I can find a friendly to help re-gear me, otherwise my limited 1-2 hours per night is going to take some time to get any sort of gear again. I know this is alpha (or pre-alpha) but wow, let's fix the mechanics. Zombies ghost through anything they want, it's kinda getting old. Fix the big bugs please, unless you're incapable since your main Dev defected a week or so ago?

I decided to try my hand at sniping today, and was perched up high in a tower near the coast. The strangest thing though, I kept hearing someone eating and drinking. I looked all around for half an hour and didn't see anyone, the only thing I could see was a zombie parked at the base of the tower directly under me. It sounds crazy but, do zombies eat and drink so they don't die? Is that what I was hearing? Munch munch munch, gulp. Crack can open, glug glug glug every few minutes. Really weird!

Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
Death By Crowbar replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
My opinion - it's a worth while enough game to purchase NOW. However, once purchased the whole "it's alpha, shit is broken and you must deal with it" mentality goes out the window. Once purchased you are responsible to support any users who've purchased it, regardless of what disclaimers you put forth. That's the reality. -
Searched and couldn't find anything on this - anyone see the weird thing where someone could be skating on top of their shirt or backpack? The dude who was skating on his shirt incidentally had no torso (I have no screenshot), but I saw a dude skating on his backpack and then the same thing happened to me - when I put the backpack on it went to my feet instead of my back and when I ran it stayed under my feet as if I was skating on it.
