How do you deal with zombies?

Zombies - do you kill, kite, or avoid them? Here's what I've found. When I first started (before I knew double run was faster) I would always try to fight them, even bare handed. What a sad hopeless newb I was (and probably still am). However, then when I learned hitting "w" twice made me run twice as fast, I started to flee from or kite them. When I say "kite" I mean run in a loop where they get tired and lose interest far away but you end up back where they originally were and like magic no zombie to deal with! Sometimes I'd kite hoards of zombies out of cities so I could loot uninterupted. However, once I realized how weak zombies were against strafing and weapons such as the two axes - I started killing them, every single one I could find, for fun because there's little to no risk once you have an axe (regardless of type). That's my evolution. If I have no weapon now, I avoid or kite them. If I have an axe weapon (or sometimes a baseball bat or fire extinguisher and I'm feeling motivated) I'll kill them all. What's your approach?

    Authentification Timeout (Steam Down ?)

So here's an oddball question - if Steam is down DayZ is also down? Or? I'm able to log in for about a minute or 2, and it appears as though I see a few people popping onto the server I'm no then disappearing - I'm assuming they're all getting the Authentication Timeout issue. Are DayZ login and Steam login tightly coupled?

    Authentification Timeout (Steam Down ?)

Yeah - I was about to post about this too, glad I found this thread first. So - you can't play DayZ if steam is down? I also updated the bug ticket about this with whatever information I could find. Steam is going down like a high school prom date today... http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=5381
  4. So - while starving and dying of dehydration and looking for food I managed to accidentally fall on the scaffolding of one of the industrial buildings. Now I'm completely trapped, I can't "v" jump or anything, there's no zombies around to kill me, I have no idea what to do. I have little to no gear, nothing to eat that will kill me. I cannot find out how to use my baseball bat on myself, doesn't seem possible. Is my only option to sit here and stare at the screen until I die from starvation or dehydration? Someone please flush out some options I'm missing. Screenshot of where I am. Maybe a medic can log into the same server as me and give me a stick or something? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=237795009

Out of food, out of water, legs broken, trapped after falling. Help?

I tried, I was hoping it would show up orange, but it didn't. I also had a hacksaw, that could have worked. Either that or eat the 9v battery and shove the flashlight up my butt or something, I dunno, we need a way to commit suicide I think.

Out of food, out of water, legs broken, trapped after falling. Help?

I found a solution, although I think it's a bug that actually needs to be fixed. After messing around, I found that if I press "C" my char can stand up even though my legs are broken. How superhero of me! If I then press "v" he vaults! Stepped right over the scaffolding that was holding me hostage before lying right down again. I didn't realize that with your legs broken you could still stand and vault. That is probably a bug, but it's a good thing I could do it. Needless to say I lost consciousness and/or died minutes after this. However, I have a pic of myself crawling after breaking free (below). http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=237795831
  7. Glad I ran around gearing up last night. That was hours well spent. I get that this is alpha - but this is a HUMAN cost. If me, as a human, buys the game for $30, do NOT wipe me, ever, period. The whole "this is alpha, read the disclaimer" thing gets old quick. It's a crutch. Take care of your paid customers, don't screw them and leave them out to dry for god's sake.

When you die... do you - ?

Just curious what most people do when they die. Do you run naked and attempt to mug someone well outfitted and get gear back immediately (zerg approach)? Do you log into an underpopulated server and hope good loot spawns are available? Do you log into an overpopulated server and aimlessly run around already looted areas starving until you die? Do you log out in a fit of rage and troll the boards about how ridiculous it was that you died and how it's someone else's fault and everything is broken? The other night it was quite amazing, I was on a very populated server and I swear I was getting zerged from every direction by fresh spawns trying to knock me out Mike Tyson style. There must have been 10 people in 10 minutes that had no gear that tried to knock me out as if "the knock out game" was a part of DayZ.

Oh fun - all geared up 12 hours ago, now naked. Fun.

I was last on a Battleeye server, I forget which, I but I do recall the "X player is losing connection" messages. It's a joke. Wasting time and money. The alpha umbrella is not protection from scrutiny - paid players shouldn't get wiped. If you wipe paid players why not gear them up instead??? It's equally as reasonable to do.

Trolls - who pays for the game (and how)? I'm simply putting on notice that wiping should come with significant alert. There is an end product that appears to be an MMORPG that is a monthly (or yearly) license - having hours of effort erased won't be tolerated then, and shouldn't be tolerated now. I didn't pay $30 to get ass fucked, I paid to to play a fun game and that's incomplete but not get fucked in the arse.

Seriously do something to the blood loss.......

I'm still trying to figure out how a zombie hit you in the first place. If you're running it's basically impossible for them to hit you at all. You must have been drunk, taunting someone, trying to snipe and not paying attention, etc. Remember that gun fire draws them in like fat kids to cake.

How you died in DayZ... a witness account.

I hate zombies that fall on me! To the person who posts below me, I saw you die in this manner: You were one of a gang of 3 bandits holding someone hostage, force feeding them anything you can find after already giving them disinfectant spray. A single ax wielding naked guy runs up to you and your bandit friends and causes a little panic but gets gunned down... and in the process you get shot by friendly fire. You're on the ground bleeding out right under your hostage, but noone has any rags or anything to help you. Just before you black out and go unconscious, the disinfectant and rotten food you fed your hostage kicks in and he vomits right on you. You are dead, but then again, so is he!
  15. Deep thoughts, I'm pondering the ways of the universe. How can something rotten be pristine? Is that the best state of rotten? It's almost like a double negative, a ruined rotten apple must be in great shape then?

your first interaction with another player

My first interaction was some guy ran up past me waving (looked like a new spawn) and the second I stopped I was gunned down by machine gun fire. I'm assuming he was a decoy for a 2 man bandit cell. I learned quickly to always look around and keep my eyes open...

    Meelee weapon damange ranking?

Is there any sort of meelee weapon damage ranking that exists anywhere? I've been trying to sort this out. I know that the Fire Ax and Splitting Ax are typically the best, but I've found that the Fire Extinguisher is more effective than the crowbar, which is shocking... unless it was a fluke.

    Meelee weapon damange ranking?

My god... it must have taken that guy literally HOURS of running to test each of those considering that he dies every time.

Lack of understanding / believing them also reveal the type of programmer you are. There's a vast difference between a startup swiss army knife (one to fit all problems) programmer vs an enterprise "cushie" programmer. Who even uses the term "programmer"? Noone who would work at companies such as Bloomberg, ESPN, Google, or any of the major game shops. "Programmer" is not a title you put on a resume. It's bunk, it's garbage, it shows inexperience and invalidates your opinion.

Creed of any good software shop - BUGS COME FIRST. There's a disjunct here, either you can't fix the major problems or you wont'. Can't and won't are the same thing - with Dean leaving in the next few months show us progress on the real BIG bugs or you will see defection that is revenue breaking. Decide, make the right choice, show us you have the chops. ... or if you can't hire me to help.

    DayZ is peaceful

I'm Bicrius, errrr, Death By Crowbar and I demand respect. I had pwnage in EQ1 on Luclin Server and also HL2 on the MIA/POW servers as well as CYCO servers. I was a member of all of them, and still am on HL2. I will pick up a crowbar and drive it through your skullface. No disrespect, but I'm out to win and kill anyone in my virtual path. Happy hunting and it hurts less to stand still and take it like a man!

Results speak. If all those hires happened and they were quality - we'll see results. If they were mass hires to apease clients and investors - expect a downward turn, and an immediate downward turn. They either have a plan or their investors have pressured them into repeating the "sins of old".

How Big Is The Day Z Developer Team?

In fact anytime a firm hires a dozen or so folks to replace (or replace talk of) a single person leaving it's usually a sign of them taking a downward spiral / turn. Day Z has some pants to fill (or not) very quickly. We'll know within a week or two whether this will be a good thing or whether we should log into RUST and wave our shlongs around.
