Zombies would be more amusing if they were more like players...
Death By Crowbar replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Enjoyment factor, and tactics. There are zombies afterall, you should be able to use/abuse them. -
Good point... but then it would be a spear and not a bowstaff. I cannot live out my fantasy of being as awesome as the Star Wars kid with a spear now can I? Although a spear could arguable be wielded or thrown, so now you've got a more complex problem by crafting progression. BUT - you could then act out fantasies about being Leonidas!
-
You shouldn't defend obvious problems - you should discuss and acknowledge them, it will then allow players understand what to expect and thus how to work around them until they are addressed. There shouldn't be a, "Dunno what your problem is bro, lol @ you, you play like a newb, games have to load duh!" There's an obvious problem here and as I noted it appears it's a known issue - and the best thing to do with known issues logged in the bug tracker is vote them up so they might get addressed quicker.
-
If you can craft a bow, you should be able to craft a bow staff. I'd craft a bow staff and charge people with the full fury of the Star Wars kid!
-
There's a difference between "understanding, dealing with, and working around the current game mechanics" vs acknowledging how something "should" work. The original poster correctly pointed out that there is an issue here - the game mechanics shouldn't log you in until everything is loaded and you're capable of moving/defending yourself. There shouldn't be a "fuzz period" of 5, 10, or any number of seconds where, while loading, you might already be logged in and accessible to the environment and/or other players when the game hasn't finished loading and you're unable to react. That's the point, and it's a valid one.
-
By the way - the character wipe issue has a status of acknowledged, so there's no confusion. It also has dozens of duplicate reportings of the same issue attached to it. Go vote it up! http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78

What is it that happens when you spawn?
Death By Crowbar replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes, yes, sometimes no. There's a reported bug on this and plenty of people experiencing what I described: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=8257 -
The "Please wait..." delay on loading is something I've run into a lot lately, and seems prevalent on some servers and not others. I'm not sure if it's due to network, server load, population count, etc - but sometimes I've experienced it on "Please wait..." for up to 10 minutes (or more), and when I hit escape to bring up the menu I can see where I spawned and some of the world but it's as if the world is stuck not actually loading for some reason yet I believe it's possible you might be spawned in at that point. I always have to hit escape, choose Exit, and then try another server when that happens. So two thoughts: You're dealing what appears to be a bug, I get the same thing from time to time. It seems rather new, it only started in the past maybe 2 weeks for me. Take greater care in where you camp. You took great care on those gear runs from the sounds of it possibly on low pop servers, but if you're going to spawn into a high pop server you've gotta take great care to do so where you're almost assuredly alone and not where zeds can get you. The main reason is due to what you experienced.Looks like this bug has been reported, be sure to chime in with any details you have and also vote it up so hopefully it's addressed sooner rather than later. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=8257

What is it that happens when you spawn?
Death By Crowbar replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Same here - I think I've noticed it happening worse on high pop servers. Since I normally camp safely on the 2nd or 3rd floor of buildings, when logging in often I see the ground and a bunch of white objects with no skin applied yet - which are all of the loot objects that can be picked up. I can sometimes see them up to 3 seconds (I try to get a good look for anything I can use!) before the walls of the building start to fill in. I have to guess that this is a temporary behavior and that they'll change it to either preload while you stare at a splash screen and also ensure that you're not visible to other players until you're actually fully logged in and able to move. For now though, it has it's uses as well as it's dangers. Worse than this though is the "Please wait..." message that happens upon trying to log in sometimes. I'll begin to see server messages in the lower left and some other things will happen, but it gets stuck on "Please wait..." with a black screen and sometimes will NEVER come off that screen, even after waiting 10 minutes or more. If I hit escape I can see the part of the map I'm supposed to spawn in just fine, it just seems as though the client and/or server are eternally stuck. I end up having to hit escape, Exit, and look for another server. -
I typically play as a lone survivor, I at least try to find friendlies to collaborate with, but that gets me killed at least 50% of the time. But I guess in the apocalypse you can't trust anyone? I suppose I could role play it up some more, I would cry over my dog and PS4 that burned when my wife turned Zed and how I had to kill her with a fire extinguisher...

How tactful are you, and what tactics work in DayZ SA?
Death By Crowbar replied to comikz's topic in General Discussion
Just run like hell in an eradic random pattern so noone can get a bead on you in towns, never stop for long, eat food and drink in the middle of nowhere, stick to tree lines when possible, only trust people you actually know or those who've traveled with you for at least one town (that's a lot of time to waste being a secret threat). As a loner that's all I live by. Oh, that and use binoculars a lot, since they've been added it helps. -
No, zombies are not threads. I would say they are a threat tho (but only when logging, they seem incapable of hitting me otherwise).
-
Until someone implements a log in the represented hive that denotes when you're killed so someone can go back for sure and show that they were killed after logging out, I'd like to see claims of "wipes don't happen" stop. Because by all first hand accounts they do, although I believe a good percentage of them are not actually wipes but poor judgement by not understanding a few things. I had more problems with wipes when I would do the following: Always search for a new server every time I logged in, I would never simply hit play. I would camp outdoors, where I assumed I was safe. <- this may be the biggest problemNow I always: Hit play first and check if the server I'm on has a population suitable to my mood. If I decide to switch servers I've got a list that I'm comfortable with that seem safe. Camp out on the 2nd or 3rd story of a building where zeds can't get me and where I'm sure there is noone. Sometimes I'll even wait 5 minutes or so before camping just to ensure I'm not being followed by a bandit or zed.Camping outdoors is very dangerous because of wandering zeds and long range zed aggro. Heck, I had a fast zed follow me what seemed like most of the way from Berezino to Elektro once. Never assume you've outrun a zed and lost it's aggro, given their current unfinished status that would be extremely foolish.
-
This happened 2 nights ago. Was totally crazy and I wish I could remember which server I was on. So I'm bumming around the coast somewhere up towards Berezino and I run into a fresh spawn and strike up a conversation. He says he's trucking it back to Berezino but to be careful, he claimed there was a hacker there who teleported up a tower to kill him. I tell him "good luck" and we part ways. Not wanting to deal with whatever insanity was going on in Berezino, I start heading south on the coastal main road towards Elektro. This is where things get interesting. I spot a zombie on the road ahead fighting something/someone. As I get closer I *think* I see a corpse under the zombie but then it suddenly disappears. I kill the zombie and keep moving. Another minute or so of running I happen upon the same situation again, but this time there's 2 zombies beating on someone/something, but as I get closer there's nothing/noone there. I decide to simply run past these zombies and keep moving. Another minute or so of running I run into the same thing again. This is getting odd. I run past the zombie. Another minute or so I swear I see a guy in a red shirt running ahead of me, then he disappears. I look around and all the sudden he's behind me running towards me. Before he gets to me he disappears again. Wierded out I turn and keep running towards Elektro and then maybe a minute later stumble upon what looks like the corpse of the guy in the red shirt that had "teleported" (for lack of a better term) around me just prior. I keep running - and in another minute or so it's like rinse and repeat - the zombie phenomena starts all over again, in the middle of the road beating on something invisible. It's at this point that I decided to log and search for a different server. So very strange, anything experienced anything like that before?

Will not be playing again until fire axe is un-nerfed
Death By Crowbar replied to DAUFvice's topic in General Discussion
Fire Ax? Why would you ever use that when the fire extinguisher is superior because of the knock down factor? Sure, with the fire ax if you head shot it might be over quickly, but with the fire extinguisher he can do nearly as much damage and there's a far greater chance you'll knock someone down/out with that over a fire ax headshot. The only thing cool about the fire ax is you can open cans with it and you can spray paint it (a black fire ax is pretty sweet). -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Death By Crowbar replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Zed's are so confused and their pathing is so buggy it's amazing they ever hit anyone at all. I simply walk around an object and they go bonkers trying to find a new route to get to me. If someone has trouble with zeds now while they're so very simple and weak it's going to be a nightmare when the pathing and AI are updated to something more viable. As it stands right now zombies pose no threat to anyone, even getting hit by a zombie takes an act of god (unless you don't know how to strafe). -
At 7:07 the guy with the mask and the voice changer is absolutely hilarious, I just spit my drink out!

Enjoying the view while I study.
Death By Crowbar replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
There's sometimes where I'll use binoculars and just watch what people do in towns from safety afar. I've witnessed some pretty messed up stuff... -
So, tonight I died and spawned in some town I'd never seen before. That was fine, there were 2 other fresh spawns there and we did some fresh spawn meelee and ended up allowing each other to go our separate ways. This town was in a cove by the water somewhere with a bunch of train tracks that went nowhere, lots of rocks and trees around, etc. So trying to find my way out I take a random smaller paved road, and keep following that to a coast. I then turn left and follow that coast. Now I'm in the middle of NOWHERE, a grassland wasteland with no trees for as far as the eye can see. There is literally nothing around, anywhere, except for the coast and barren grassland. Where. Am. I? Holy hell I have no idea... and no map.

Favorite Form Of Banditry?
Death By Crowbar replied to Conrad_The_Comrade's topic in General Discussion
I tried my hand at banditry. I found a spot where, with binoculars, I could see literally forever and there was no risk of someone sneaking up on me. So when someone passed by: Fresh spawns - I would question them, hand them some opened food, and allow them on their way. Semi gearned - I *might* handcuff them, question them, joke with them, but ultimately I'd send them on their way. Well geared guys (solo) - The guys I would approach with an ethical issue of what to do, true heroes always passed and went about their way with no issue. However, people trust issues or true bandits whole somehow fail this test and either he'd end up dead, or I'd end up dead, or we'd both end up dead cursing each other over direct chat.My favorite was randomly running out of nowhere with "harlem shake" blasting to see how people would react. I'd say about 25% laughed and got that it was fun, 50% tried to ignore me and just keep running, and maybe 25% found it offensive and attacked me. I'd consider myself a hero bandit and not really a bandit bandit. If there was no aggression everyone survived and went about their ways. If someone showed any aggression I'd assume they were one of "those guys" and would react accordingly. I'm certainly not, nor have ever been, KOS. KOS is not fun or fulfilling in DayZ, this is not HL2 Deathmatch afterall. -
Just sayin', but if the jump randomly sounded like Mario and the animation had one fist in the air that would be hilarious. But only randomly when you least expect it.
-
Zombies that don't travel in right angles (or very obviously calculated angles) will make for greater challenge, they might not take derpy routes around structures or only attack you in a straight line and then stand there dumbfounded when you merely step out of the way. This sounds promising! I wonder how the community as a whole who's used to truly "dumb" zombies that are easy to deal with will respond? Positively I hope...

A few times I've tried to survive on nothing but Tactical Bacon. Mmmm... bacon.

I used to get some very frustrated with this. But then I realized a few things (partially from experience partially from what people say on the boards here): Sometimes it happens and there's nothing you can do about it. I used to want to steak and throw things and would come at the forums like a bull in a China shop, but I've moved on to acceptance at this point. Where you camp can help - sometimes a zed may have been chasing you for miles and you might not even know it. Always camp on the 2nd floor of a building or wait at least 10 minutes before camping if you're in the middle of nowhere. On high pop servers, never camp where you're obviously found. I camped on the roof of a hospital last night and when I hopped on this morning to play for an hour I was confused to find my 6 slot pants, gun, and tactical vest all gone, but everything else was intact. I was obviously looted after I logged (either that or there's a new bug that got me, it's more likely some one looted me after I logged but was kind enough to not kill me).I try to stick to a few servers I'm comfortable with as well these days. I used to jump on any random server that was daylight and not empty.
