Some slots in a backpack are not usable
Death By Crowbar replied to TonyMahony's topic in New Player Discussion
This one is quirky and annoying, but as noted - if you move whatever (backpack, pants, etc) to the left pane so it's effectively out of inventory you should be able to move the item(s) into the slots that weren't cooperating and then put whatever (backpack, pants, etc) back on. Just be careful, if you put them fully on the ground and hit tab to close your inventory there's also a chance they'll warp somewhere, be it through a floor, to another room, etc. They may also lag and not appear at all for a few moments and then suddenly appear in front of you like magic. This known issue can be worked around, but I bite my nails every time hoping nothing goes wrong. -
It's easy to get sucked into the numerous posts with random people popping in and posting things such as: I haven't played in 3 months, I log back in and... no visible development progress! WTF? I heard bad things from friends about the stability of the game, why would I buy this? Flashlights go through walls at night and it's a big effort to fix in the current engine, this is GAME BREAKING and we must abandon ship! Why are you adding more hats and jackets rather than fixing ladders and zombie pathing? Devs need more pressure. I'm not playing again until the fire ax is un-nerfed (LOL, really???)When I first purchased DayZ Standalone and knew little to nothing about it nor it's paid "early access alpha" (new concept to me) I used to chime in on these sort of posts and stoke the fire. I would do this because I honestly liked the game and concept and was completely appalled that issues as big as zombies walking through floors/walls, random zombie noises, and other just general strange quirks were in the game at all. Then a few times after painstakingly attempting to survive and not knowing the map but figuring inland remote areas were safe, got rather geared up and had enjoyed surviving only to seemingly have my character's gear wiped. Then I also dealt with a few incidents which can only be described as "hackers" somehow taking advantage somehow through speed running, teleporting, item duplication/glitching, etc. Dev blogs happening list frequently during this time (they seemed to taper off after 2013) didn't help and added to the impression that not much was happening. As someone who doesn't visit Reddit I assumed what's relevant to DayZ Standalone would be posted on the DayZ Standalone site/forums (I think most people would expect that). Then I matured and evolved as a player and member of the community. I learned where to look for information. I started talking to people in game more about the game (the ones that weren't KOS). I started searching bugs, adding info, voting, and also reporting a few that weren't already reported. I've seen reports of cool things that are happening with hiring a team to work on zombies and zombie pathing related issues alone, tweaks being made to the engine to help achieve the vision, etc. I'm starting to understand what "early access alpha" means, and even though I paid my dues to play it ($30 or whatever it was) I'm being given an opportunity to lock in that very reasonable price (which I can certainly say at 200+ hours I've gotten my money's worth) and also participate in the development processes through feedback and bug reporting. I think there's something very good here, and it's going to be interesting to have the game experience change every week as incremental fixes or tweaks are made, and as major features such as vehicles are finally introduced. My biggest dream is, out of sheer amusement, being able to handcuff and burlap sack zombies. I know that might be a lot to ask, but after having it done to me a bunch of time if I'm on a low pop server and looking for some short term amusement abusing zombies would certainly be awesome. I'm interested in other's thoughts on this. It's so easy online to get lost in negativity, because after all, people are far quicker to complain about something than to praise something - it's human nature.

Yes, and PLEASE: Search first to see if what you're experiencing has already been reported. If it has, make sure to comment on it additionally "I have this problem too!" and also vote it up so it might get priority. Read the details on reporting and provide as much information as you can. Check in every so often and vote on bugs that matter to you, it helps. It also helps to keep informed on what the known issues are so you're not banging your head against the wall.

Does typing in direct chat work?
Death By Crowbar replied to Ransurian's topic in New Player Discussion
I never have a problem with chat, I use it often at night when the wifey is sleeping. However, it's difficult to type and communicate and not make someone nervous leading them to shoot you. It's risky, lol. -
That sounds uncomfortable.

Can you please fix the server browser?
Death By Crowbar replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
You should look here to see if it's a known/reported issue, and if it's not, you should log it: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/ FYI - what you're describing doesn't happen to me.- 1 reply

Binoculars need to be implemented
Death By Crowbar replied to SmileyArg's topic in New Player Discussion
They are incredibly awesome for scouting. Alas, a week or 2 ago they were spawning what seemed like nearly 10x the rate they do now. I ran around through 5 towns on a nearly empty server before I found a pair today. They're pretty hard to come by now. But 2 weeks ago I had 3 in my big backpack before I realized it and had to throw some away. I've been killed a few times since then, of course... -

Here's what the binoculars look like, I took these for comparison. -
Binoculars need to be implemented
Death By Crowbar replied to SmileyArg's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't "hold" right click, "click" right click. If you hold the right click, it goes to your "eye zoom", if you click right click, it goes to your "item zoom". It the same way you zoom with a gun vs zoom bare eye while gun is equipped. -
Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
Death By Crowbar replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
They'll stay in 3rd person though if it comes to it. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Death By Crowbar replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Does Battle Eye even do anything useful other than manage banned accounts? Clearly it's incapable of sniffing out poor behavior, cheating, and hacking. What a business that must be, be responsible for next to nothing. -
What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
Death By Crowbar replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Allow me to dress like Gwar or Juggalos, I mean, we already have masks that are very Juggalo... -
My favorite sidearm is a friend by my side who is armed. Period. I rarely have time to access my actual sidearm when I need it - if I need a sidearm I'm usually already dead.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Death By Crowbar replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Until fixes for obvious hacks are made, I really think usernames or steam names should be somehow knowable so these assholes can be outright banned. Make them pay $30 again for the game if they want to log back in and be dicks. Seriously, that by itself will fund the headcount of a developer to solve the problem in the first place. -
Is this game real time or supposed to be?
Death By Crowbar replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
I will say this - if it took eating an entire box of cereal, 3 cans of beans, 3 cans of spaghetti sauce, a few cans of tactical bacon, followed by a worn zucchini and a pyramid of Pipsi cans to be full and hydrated in real life that would be awesome, I'd be friggin' Kobayashi! I mean, how much food should it really take??? Then again, it's just a game, but the game is focusing on being fairly realistic so eating Kobayashi levels of food and drink seems more "game/fake" than realistic. -
I am soaking (in red text). Doesn't seem like a bad thing tho?
Death By Crowbar posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Does being soaking wet actually impact anything at all? -
But then you'll have to worry about the Westboro Babtist Church clans camping your house.

You don't talk to many people who work for these gaming companies, do you? They fear bleeding edge and stick to older tried and true. Who do you think is using Windows XP (noone) or Windows 8 (next to noone compared to Windows 7)? This guy is pretty standard.

Can Someone Explain To Me What Happened?
Death By Crowbar replied to MagneticToast's topic in General Discussion
OP - you were witnessing someone utilize the known duplication exploit bug documented here: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=10778 It's one that I'm guessing people shouldn't know about but since it's in the list of known bugs I figured it was fair to share. There's YouTube videos that show exactly how to do it that I just found. Jesus that's pretty bad, I wish there was a way to discover steam names so these people found doing it could be banned. -
This is a new known issue, it's been talked about a lot across a few threads lately, such as this one: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/195836-please-wait-and-then-your-dead/

False. You can always decompile. Code obfuscation helps make decompiled code more difficult to understand, but I've never heard of Bohemia utilizing obfuscation.

I gave this post my beans. Now this post has beans all over it, and due to some that dropped while opening, there's only 78% left. -
Zombies would be more amusing if they were more like players...
Death By Crowbar posted a topic in General Discussion
So I have silly thoughts every time I wander up behind a zombie that doesn't see me coming, and I'm sure others have had the same idea, but wouldn't it be hilarious if you could: Cuff zombies (imagine "bait" banditry on roads where you're approaching someone cuffed but omg that's a zombie not a person!) Put burlap sacks on their heads Force feed them stuff (including disinfectant spray) Break their legs Bandage them Knock them out more like a real player (they should stay down longer) Put gear on them Remove gear/clothes from them (imagine pantsless zombies!)Basically, it would be cool if you could mess with and/or abuse zombies in all of the same ways you can players (perhaps more!). -
Stuck in building, fractured leg..energised and hydrated. Cant die?
Death By Crowbar replied to SwansFc's topic in General Discussion
In the mean time while you wait you can also try: Log onto high pop server and yell for help. Log onto low pop server and fire gun (zeds might come running). Check the Medic thread, someone there might actually be able to help you. If they can get you back on your feet you might be able to vault out of the wall (or they *might* be able to kill you). -
Binoculars need to be implemented
Death By Crowbar replied to SmileyArg's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, binoculars are a little squirrelly. Originally: You must be standing. You had to hit space bar, this brings them up to your eyes. Then you right click, that puts your eyes to them and causes you to zoom.In the past week or so though now you can simply right click (skipping the spacebar part) and they'll activate. Some caveats I've found in the way they're currently implemented (these may be bugs, I dunno): Won't work while crouching or lying down, you'll always look at the ground (for some reason). Must be standing up. You cannot move while using binoculars.Hope that helps!
