Cannot find certain items for the life of me!
Death By Crowbar replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I find more binoculars up north west of Berezino than anywhere else, check the towns north and especially west of Berezino. -
I would like to take an opportunity such as this and seize it... In handcuffs and then put a burlap sack on its head and run away skipping and giggling.

The scary truth about the firestaton...
Death By Crowbar replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I find fire axes there. Firemen use fire axes! Maybe that "District Department Militia" is a militia against fires as well as holding a police role? Or maybe the sign is wrong, akin to someone switching the signs on the men's and women's bathrooms? -
DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION
Death By Crowbar replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
SmashT is the commitment to a new renderer "news" as of E3 or has that been talked about before and I simply missed it? -

What Dean said is, and I quote, "I guess the big news that we’ve been telling here at E3 is that we’re actually moving to a new engine. It is called infusion." Does that sound at all to you like what's been described over the past few months of tweaking the existing engine and points that randomspawn made above? -

Well - sorta, from what I understand it couldn't be fixed in the existing engine. But Dean seems to clarify that in this Q&A exchange: -

"Infusion" hasn't been talked about for months - but the existing engine being modified in various ways has been. So no, there is no rock over my head. Rocket announced this at E3 today and unless I'm mistaken it's never been talked about before, or at least not talked about in this manner before. What Dean said is, and I quote, "I guess the big news that we’ve been telling here at E3 is that we’re actually moving to a new engine. It is called infusion." Also if you read the way it's presented in the transcript it's not clear at all that it's what's been talked about for the past few months, it literally sounds as if there was an entirely new platform that was being moved onto. -
DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Because it makes perfect sense to communicate this sort of information on various social media platforms and not on your official forums first (if at all), right? If the DayZ StandAlone team wanted to make a simple yet powerful change to their approach and better manage the DayZ community that would be one thing I'd recommend addressing. It would be nice to have this sort of information officially communicated where the majority of the community is looking for it. -

God, that was painful to clear up and understand. Thanks orlok. This would have been so much simpler: -
DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION
Death By Crowbar replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
So - I think I've got this straight now. DayZ Standalone isn't moving to a new engine called "Infusion". The customized Arma engine that was being tweaked to StandAlone's needs now has its own name to distinguish itself from its original form and other engines because it's changed/changing so much, and that new name is "Infusion". There were so many its/it's above I believe I didn't butcher the grammar too badly... -

Maybe they're "infusing" it with zeds and bug fixes! The engine is a tool, it enables the developers to create the experience they want the player to have. Trying to wrestle with an engine that's dated or that wasn't designed for the types of things you're trying to do is kinda like having a small car and deciding you want to go camping and off roading - by the time you reinforce the frame, add a trailer hitch, jack it up and add bigger tires on top of everything else that might be needed it might be better to start with something that was made for off roading and hauling a trailer in the first place. It seems as though that decision was made with Infusion. It's nice to see the direction more clearly, but this brings up questions in my mind such as will this slow/halt various other updates that were coming in the game while the new engine is being worked on and integrated? -
You'd be surprised how many people stand their ground vs flee or log when they're being rushed. I think more people than not understand risk vs reward and the risk of having to run around potentially for a few hours to get geared up and healthy vs the reward of likely some ruined gear many times isn't worth it - if rushed I've witnessed more people back down than stand their ground. Thus rushing or pushing towards someone can totally be worth it, especially if they're geared at all...

Click on it - I linked it to where I found it. If you google it there's a few other places it pops up in the various Bohemia lore or unofficial wiki/info sites.

If it's done to scale it would be waaaay out to sea. That would be a heck of a swim, similar to swimming from Berezino to Elektro. I didn't mean to take things off topic with Utes vs Youts - I was using a play on words that I'd expect many others would have though, as in, "What are utes?" I should have used a much smaller meme or no meme at all perhaps...

Obscure cultural reference lost on an obviously younger or international audience. For anyone who watched movies in the early 90's you'd know exactly where this comes from and why it's funny in this context. FYI the number of people who get this quote are going to far eclipse the number of people who know the significance of Utes in the greater DayZ/Arma lore.

LOL. What is a ute?

The problem isn't so much the low pop or unpopulated servers, the problem is the frequency of server restarts. If severs weren't restarting every 1-2 hours (which is annoying) there wouldn't be as much loot and the low pop servers wouldn't be like fully stocked candy stores. My opinion: Public hive servers should require a much longer restart interval... OR restarts shouldn't always automatically re-populate lootPublic hive servers that reboot every 1-2 hours is the same problem as the item duping exploit. The problem isn't people server hopping between low/no pop and high pop, the problem is the way loot is currently generated.

Legend has it that there's pirate treasure out there, and also a stockpile of old ET game cartridges for Atari buried and long forgotten.
-
Oddly I typically find them more in towns towards the north, some of the ones north and west of Berezino - I don't have as much luck finding any in the south near Kamyshovo or Elektro, etc.
-
Only problem with this is if the server admin is you or a buddy of yours you can be like, "Hey, kick me, I'm going to jump to another server for some loot, be back shortly..." At least server restarts have the 90 second or whatever cool down time after you've been disconnected so the client (and server) should be able to differentiate that, and with it's built in timer (so long as you wait it out) you should be good to go to log back in or into another server. is it me or do I notice a lot more servers cropping up at night USA time - perhaps for this very purpose?

How to locate where people are shooting?
Death By Crowbar replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
Many/most people with good gear that are in high populated areas/towns such as Berezino are either in squads or they're cowering like rats in buildings waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting who wander by (aka random shots). In other words, part of staying alive is learning out to hide one's location. ... depending where you are there can also be room/wall glitchers, the ones who manage to get themselves into rooms behind locked doors and such. Those guys are tremendous douches but at least they often can't get out once they get in. -
It's threadworthy because most nights it's one of the 5 most populated regular (not hardcore, not experimental, public hive) servers, and is typically 40/40 filled. For people who like a high pop experience, it's a major draw. However, it's a crap server from my experience too - everything including what OP said I've experienced there, thus I avoid it unless there's no other high pop servers available.

I have a lot of trouble dealing with rocks. I climb on them and I might fall through them to my death. And currently I accidentally had a mosin in hands and ate food, the mosin dropped - no problem, I see it, I'll just pick it up... but no, it's on the rocks, it's as if it doesn't exist even though I can see it and it's right there in front of me! Other than simply avoiding rocks, any suggestions?

I stumbled upon this and pretty much laughed my ass off. Kudos to these guys for hilarity!
