DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

God, that was painful to clear up and understand. Thanks orlok. This would have been so much simpler: -
DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION
Death By Crowbar replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
So - I think I've got this straight now. DayZ Standalone isn't moving to a new engine called "Infusion". The customized Arma engine that was being tweaked to StandAlone's needs now has its own name to distinguish itself from its original form and other engines because it's changed/changing so much, and that new name is "Infusion". There were so many its/it's above I believe I didn't butcher the grammar too badly... -
Can't we all just get along \(;o;)/

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION
Death By Crowbar replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
Maybe they're "infusing" it with zeds and bug fixes! The engine is a tool, it enables the developers to create the experience they want the player to have. Trying to wrestle with an engine that's dated or that wasn't designed for the types of things you're trying to do is kinda like having a small car and deciding you want to go camping and off roading - by the time you reinforce the frame, add a trailer hitch, jack it up and add bigger tires on top of everything else that might be needed it might be better to start with something that was made for off roading and hauling a trailer in the first place. It seems as though that decision was made with Infusion. It's nice to see the direction more clearly, but this brings up questions in my mind such as will this slow/halt various other updates that were coming in the game while the new engine is being worked on and integrated? -
You'd be surprised how many people stand their ground vs flee or log when they're being rushed. I think more people than not understand risk vs reward and the risk of having to run around potentially for a few hours to get geared up and healthy vs the reward of likely some ruined gear many times isn't worth it - if rushed I've witnessed more people back down than stand their ground. Thus rushing or pushing towards someone can totally be worth it, especially if they're geared at all...

Click on it - I linked it to where I found it. If you google it there's a few other places it pops up in the various Bohemia lore or unofficial wiki/info sites.

If it's done to scale it would be waaaay out to sea. That would be a heck of a swim, similar to swimming from Berezino to Elektro. I didn't mean to take things off topic with Utes vs Youts - I was using a play on words that I'd expect many others would have though, as in, "What are utes?" I should have used a much smaller meme or no meme at all perhaps...

Obscure cultural reference lost on an obviously younger or international audience. For anyone who watched movies in the early 90's you'd know exactly where this comes from and why it's funny in this context. FYI the number of people who get this quote are going to far eclipse the number of people who know the significance of Utes in the greater DayZ/Arma lore.

LOL. What is a ute?

The problem isn't so much the low pop or unpopulated servers, the problem is the frequency of server restarts. If severs weren't restarting every 1-2 hours (which is annoying) there wouldn't be as much loot and the low pop servers wouldn't be like fully stocked candy stores. My opinion: Public hive servers should require a much longer restart interval... OR restarts shouldn't always automatically re-populate lootPublic hive servers that reboot every 1-2 hours is the same problem as the item duping exploit. The problem isn't people server hopping between low/no pop and high pop, the problem is the way loot is currently generated.

Legend has it that there's pirate treasure out there, and also a stockpile of old ET game cartridges for Atari buried and long forgotten.
-
Oddly I typically find them more in towns towards the north, some of the ones north and west of Berezino - I don't have as much luck finding any in the south near Kamyshovo or Elektro, etc.
-
Only problem with this is if the server admin is you or a buddy of yours you can be like, "Hey, kick me, I'm going to jump to another server for some loot, be back shortly..." At least server restarts have the 90 second or whatever cool down time after you've been disconnected so the client (and server) should be able to differentiate that, and with it's built in timer (so long as you wait it out) you should be good to go to log back in or into another server. is it me or do I notice a lot more servers cropping up at night USA time - perhaps for this very purpose?

How to locate where people are shooting?
Death By Crowbar replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
Many/most people with good gear that are in high populated areas/towns such as Berezino are either in squads or they're cowering like rats in buildings waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting who wander by (aka random shots). In other words, part of staying alive is learning out to hide one's location. ... depending where you are there can also be room/wall glitchers, the ones who manage to get themselves into rooms behind locked doors and such. Those guys are tremendous douches but at least they often can't get out once they get in. -
It's threadworthy because most nights it's one of the 5 most populated regular (not hardcore, not experimental, public hive) servers, and is typically 40/40 filled. For people who like a high pop experience, it's a major draw. However, it's a crap server from my experience too - everything including what OP said I've experienced there, thus I avoid it unless there's no other high pop servers available.

I have a lot of trouble dealing with rocks. I climb on them and I might fall through them to my death. And currently I accidentally had a mosin in hands and ate food, the mosin dropped - no problem, I see it, I'll just pick it up... but no, it's on the rocks, it's as if it doesn't exist even though I can see it and it's right there in front of me! Other than simply avoiding rocks, any suggestions?

I stumbled upon this and pretty much laughed my ass off. Kudos to these guys for hilarity!

[Discovery] Trapped In Experimental
Death By Crowbar replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
I liked it! -
You shouldn't help a guy just to steal from him. It would have been more humane to simply shoot him rather than leave him naked, at least then he'd have a t-shirt for rags and wouldn't be bothing with a stupid crossbow. If you're going to help someone, help them. Helping them robbing is kinda like double crossing, or kinda like taking a girl on a date and paying for dinner yet getting nothing in return. Or kinda like this weekend's GoT episode where the Viper pwned the Mountain getting our hopes up only to get lost in revenge blindness leaving an opening that caused him to have his skull exploded in the Mountain's massive hands.

You should search "DayZ Standalone" and it comes right up. Also - go to http://forums.dayzgame.com/ and bypass the age entry thing. I never hit the main site, I always just got to the forums.

Kudos! This game format can be fun/silly without being PVP only, being PVP only greatly limits it's potential and people who think that way are missing out. Albeit with no KOS people the game wouldn't be any where near as interesting either... but I digress. Before all of the spawns were moved up north I stood for a few hours on the bend north of Kamyshovo (the town just before Elektro) greeting fresh spawns running along the road and handing out can openers, screw drivers, and food. It was actually pretty fun and hilarious... I even had a dude sneak up on my crawling with broken legs and fulfilled his request for a kill so he could respawn (he had been crawling for an hour or two he claimed, and I'm sure he wasn't lying based upon where I was). This was all great until someone sniped me, I never even saw them... but it was a fun day.

What do you do when you're under siege?
Death By Crowbar replied to amiasfree's topic in General Discussion
I might try diplomacy, or ask that they simply back down and leave. If I have my mic working and wifey and kids aren't around so I can really talk I might test the waters with submitting and being taken hostage. Maybe. Depends on my mood and how well geared I am at the time... but hostage situations can be very amusing. If that doesn't work I'll wait in the safest part of whatever area I'm trapped where I can maybe observe them and have time to react should they advance. If I get bored of that I'll mess with them and try to get them distracted so they slip up and give me an opening. If all else fails like any caged rat I'm going to come at you like a spider monkey! I don't want to go out without putting up a fight. -
Zombies are too hard (defending my opinion)
Death By Crowbar replied to JosephHabib's topic in General Discussion
So, a few thoughts: Zombies as they're implemented now are a threat to noone. And I mean absolutely noone. If you die from a zombie now you're drunk or don't have a keyboard that works. Here's why: If you strafe or run in circles it is impossible for a zombie to hit you. Period. You can avoid infinite zombies indefinitely, they simply cannot hit you. If you combine #1 above but do it while strafing so you're facing them the hole time you can fight them indefinitely without dying. You can kill them with any weapon in the game quite easily this way. Sometimes I bare hand box them on purpose for fun - it might take 3 times knocking them down before you can kill them but it's not hard. If you're running and a fast zombie is on your tail, you can zig zag, which done at the right interval makes it impossible for a zombie to hit you, at all. It's the same concept as #1 above. If you combine running up hills with #3 above, you can have any number of zombies chase you up a hill, then you simply run down and 9 times out of 10 they fall to their deaths. If they don't fall to their death, find a steeper hill or just try again. Most zombies I kill I don't even need to break out a weapon to dispatch. In summary - if anyone thinks zombies as they stand now are difficult, you should understand that you're lacking some major skills and understanding on how zombies work and how this game or any FPS for that matter should be played. I've watched fresh spawns get attacked by zombies and then try to "toe to toe" stand there and box them - anyone who does that will lose every time, but anyone who does that must realize that's like attempting to play tetris without rotating the pieces... you've effectively handicapped yourself and you will lose. If you try to fight zombie this way you'll also typically lose when fighting players as well. I found this in the gallery which may help anyone who thinks zombies are hard: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/197779-how-to-kill-zombies-without-getting-hit-for-newbies/ In conclusion - with the way zombies are currently implemented, if one kills you, it's (for lack of a nicer way to say it) really really really pathetic. It's next to impossible for zombies to hit you at all, and you can kill them without even hitting them! When the zombies are re-worked I hope all of that is fixed, because as it stands now they're about as dangerous as rabbits. -
!WALLBUGGING IDIOTS! glad it will get fixed on patch
Death By Crowbar replied to norreka's topic in Gallery
Yes - noone came out of any walls. At the start the guy was against the wall - and due to a clipping bug appeared to be partially in the wall, but staying against the wall isn't hacking, bugging, etc. Also at the end nooone was in any wall, there was a guy standing in the back hallway and another guy using 3rd person smartly to see him while still standing on the stairs - that's just how 3rd person works, the guy at the top of the stairs should have known that's a place where he can easily be seen and shouldn't have used that as the place to defend himself.
