EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
Death By Crowbar replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Personally I don't mind it. I doubt it's a bug. However, I have to imagine that DayZ staff and potentially future GM type activities (if there's ever in server events supported) would rely on this. It obviously took code to make it happen, so it's not a bug. The question is whether or not they meant for everyone to see it. My guess is yes. I rarely use maps anyway, so I don't see this as a big deal - the DayZ online map (with range finding) I know where pretty much everything is (including myself) so who cares if there's a "you are here!" indicator? Also, anyone who's played enough hours roughly knows where they are when the spawn anyway. I support this effort. -
It took a lot of messing around. I was stuck at the bottom of an area with like 3 stairwells, somehow I log rolled up one of them. You should also consult the medic thread and try to contact someone there, they help a lot of people. The DayZ support team is also known to unstuck people in houses and such, they may help a brother out since honestly you should be able to crawl up stairs. Keep up the good fight... log into a high pop server and be sure to yell for help, people do frequent that rusty bucket. If someone doesn't or won't help you at least they'll put a bullet in your head (god that sounds so terrible but it's better than being in limbo).

I love reading this guy's stuff... hilarious!

I got into this problem there as well. Broke my legs on stairs. You can't crawl up or down stairs, you have to log roll (Q or E). I was on a 2nd or 3rd story and ended up being able to roll myself off and die because I couldn't find a way down and didn't have a stick. That ship is evil...

Good luck finding some chickans for him!

A viewer asked me, what do you do to have fun on DayZ? I told him it's all about the interactions...skip to 6:00 for the action

He got quite excited. There was a lot of action right outside that window... -
Found this on Reddit.. cant stop laughing at it

They're holding hands and the whole thing looks ridiculous. I can't tell if: She's an old lady he's helping to cross the road? or... She's a drunk date who he's helping standup? or... He's been beating her and she's about to once again "talk to the hand"? or...It's just silly. I like. -
Well, did you kill it or did you give up?

Something to help clear the air.

I imagine it's difficult to fix core problems when the core is still being worked on and developed. You can't fix zed movement or pathing issues until you have a new system that supports it. You can't fix graphics issues with light going through walls and such until you re-work the core of the engine and have "Infusion" much more completed. It's difficult to add additional things that tax the servers until that code is optimized and the move from 32 bit to 64 bit is done to give more "breathing room" from a memory and computational standpoint. As I've played the alpha and read I'm starting to understand more of why certain no brainer totally broken things are not getting addressed any time soon, there's just an order of operations and we've got a perfectly good egg and we're trying to now grow a chicken... that shell's gonna break and then there's going to be some growing pains. That analogy was inspired by the dude who posted about a friend reporting to have found chickens. <insert GoT reference to The Hound and 2 chickens here> -
I think zombies should be like moths to a flame with fire - it should totally attract them and they should run like mad into it and catch on fire, and then run away with normal aggro attempting to kill people while on fire. Yes... that would be sweet!
-
You just gave this topic a point! :beans:

Should hopper zombies be removed for now before the next stable patch?
Death By Crowbar replied to Zed's Dead's topic in General Discussion
No... they're a nice challenge and sometimes in the distance I often mistake them for someone crawling and get surprised once in a while. -

That link goes nowhere friend. :( -
I'll take two chickens.

I've not seen an LRS in quite some time, actually I've only ever found 1. But tents do sound interesting, I'd like to better understand the vision of how they'll be used. I hadn't been following the whole tent discussion because I didn't think it was going to happen anytime soon. Maybe someone who's up on the topic or has an idea of what Dean & crew have hinted at could add some color on: If I pitch a tent and it's "persistent", does it exist everywhere or only on servers where I am currently logged in? Are tents meant to be persistent storage? So if I stash some guns and ammo there, can someone else find it and loot it?
-
I'd offer you beans for this thread, but seeing as how you're now a fresh spawn you might find this more useful!
-
When you're geared and have a weapon visible be very weary of completely unarmed fresh spawns (akal bambis). They'll try to punch you and knock you unconscious, then they'll steal your gear and kill you. When I started playing bambis were more likely to talk and be interesting, but as of the past 2 months at least every one just bolts for me as if I'm a loot pinata ready to be smacked. You played it the right way - attempt to interact then defend yourself.

In a predicament - any sure fire way to orient oneself generally towards Chernarus?
Death By Crowbar replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Oh - one last thing to add (not trying to bump myself), this is a screenshot of the keyboard and pen cap that I use, the very same that got me into trouble last night. I don't know why people complain about autorun anyway, there's a perfectly reasonable way to accomplish it without wasting developer time on it. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

This is a screenshot of what I do... and also what got me lost in the middle of the ocean after I dozed off. -
(Exp) Respawning Loot and Basic Persistent Storage Patch
Death By Crowbar replied to Etherious's topic in General Discussion
Respawning loot and persistent loot between restarts is HUGE, HUGE!!!!! Towns with doors open can't be considered picked over anymore. Thus there's less likely places will be ghost towns. Craptastic admins and clans who run loot whore servers will be out of luck. These are good things. -

I read about that on Kotaku, was that you Tatanko? -

Death By Crowbar replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
boneboys suggested I re-post my recent predicament from this thread here. Long story short, I sometimes wedge a pen cap under my "E" key to hold down my "W" key to simulate an autorun when I know I've got a long way to run (if I'm going from Berezino cross country towards Balota or something, I really only use it when I'm going a LONG way). Well, long story short last night I was running from somewhere near Polana I think and wanted to simply head south to the coast and head to Elektro. So using the map knowing where a street sign was in relation to the town I situated myself generally south and took off with my "W" key wedged down. It was late at night, and wouldn't you know it I dozed off... when I woke up I had been logged out of the server, I assume it rebooted. So I logged back in and - I was swimming in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight! No idea how long I'd been swimming for nor how far out into the ocean I was. You can read the details in the original thread but I got some suggestions and ended up generally keeping the sun to my back and managed to eventually find land again, and wouldn't you know it I landed at the western edge of Elektro where I wanted to go anyway, great success! Figured I'd share - I took some screenshots and managed to make a GIF of the final leg of my journey. Two funny notable things: I thought I was seeing flying fish, which was weird because I never saw anyone speak of them. Turned out it was that stupid bird flying relative to the ground and not relative to the water. Thus it was flying under water and popping up on occasion. After swimming for a long time both my SKS and backpack would completely disappear from my body and my inventory. Logging out and back in fixed that, and also when I landed on shore and got out of the water they magically reappeared. I'm going to log a bug on that one. -

An update - light at the end of the tunnel! I kept the sun generally behind me and swam for somewhere between 30-45 minutes as time allowed before work and I now see land off in the distance. It looks like the shore of Elektro from afar, either way I'm good to go. Maybe 5 more minutes or so and I should reach the shore, damp, but just fine. -

I hadn't even thought of that! I'm going to try to swim it for a while before I have to leave for work, but if that yields no results I'll submit a ticket for help. Thanks !
