Chatacter wipe next stable build(.49) possible
Death By Crowbar replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
You missed the most important parts: Thank god they're going to blow it all away. All of that crap, nuke it! YES!!! *happy dance* Last night I was approaching Novo and I kept hearing M4 shots, very rythmic, as if they were doing it to a drum beat. After hearing about the 200th shot in a row I turned around and headed the other direction. I just cannot stand people with infinite ammo, and it's always the douches with M4's. Maybe because M4 mags are vulnerable to it where others aren't? I dunno, I just know I'm going to be VERY happy when this hits, and I imagine most others will be as well. Good night hackers, dupers, and identical twin clans who so obviously dupe gear each other up! Your time draws near, let's see how you fair living like the rest of us who try to keep it legit. Your aggressive corpse cannon ways are going to need some re-evaluating. -
Flacid? Based on how well I did last night in my adventures through Chernarus I think I should change my in game name to that...

What are you filters set at? If your internet connection is spotty it may detect most/all servers as being beyond the max ping being filtered. It may not be your issue but it's worth looking at especially if you have to hit refresh a lot in order for anything to show up.

Or maybe you're related to Kobayashi...

Gotta wait for 3 second rule to no longer apply though!

Weird Unexpected Death. Can someone explain?
Death By Crowbar replied to Devil's Toast's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, it's a gamble. Best things you can do are: Log your issue. If it's a duplicate, chime in on the original stating what happened to you, and vote it up. Be careful in buildings, only go up steep stairs when you're sure there's loot, and be careful going prone. They'll fix it all eventually... -
Weird Unexpected Death. Can someone explain?
Death By Crowbar replied to Devil's Toast's topic in General Discussion
This is more prone to happen in buildings with steep stairs, such as fire stations and the aircraft control tower on the air bases, but apparently it can happen elsewhere, especially when laying down. Here's one issue that sounds a lot like yours where it's being investigated, and laying down is one of the keys to how this particular one happens. Although anywhere with steep stairs I avoid entirely because it's taking a gamble until they fix it. You likely did nothing wrong. Hang in there... -
And even if badly damaged they still work like pristine! Score...

I wish I could see this from the air - it looks as though it could look like a giant dong (aka. penis). If true than I'd say, even though it took an exploit to accomplish it, that's flipping awesome...
-
If you're going to use exploits maybe you shouldn't post pictures of it?
-
Well, if we're being realistic - you should be able to walk up to anything concrete and rub the can on it to open it. And look - hardly anything is spilled, works as good as a can opener! Let's be realistic and add this to the game so I don't need to waste inventory slots on things to open cans with!
-
In my opinion - spawn locations should be as random as possible. The reasons include: Ensure the entire map is used. Mitigate spawn camping killers/bandits. Reinforce the "survivor" aspect of the game. Mitigate artificial map "hot spots".When I originally started playing I would basically only spawn on the coast. It's far too easy to orient yourself and get stuck in a pattern on the coast. I really wish they'd open up the spawn locations a bit more. Well, actually I think they have, but I NEVER spawn in the south anymore which makes me believe they're still heavily weighted or exclusively in the north... probably to make us test those towns, but still... people will test those towns anyway.

A number of people have reported this and/or chimed in: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15528 Log into the Bug Tracker and add details of what you're experiencing, vote it up, and help provide details so that it might get addressed quicker!
-
What causes it is a known bug that's been around for a long time (at least since December). Log into bug tracker and vote it up! It's already like the 3rd most voted on open issue in the game. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=363

What Deathlove is talking about is actually a logged issue that a number of people have had: It seems as though somehow they get into a state where they cannot find/see any loot, at all, anywhere. From reports I've seen some people have been able to fix this by rebooting and trying a couple of other things. It seems sporadic and not terribly wide spread, but apparently it's happening.

My failure at using chem lights as a distraction...
Death By Crowbar posted a topic in General Discussion
So, I was looting one of the main rows of houses Novo, one of the "blue doors". I went in from the back and ran upstairs to the 3rd foor. Nothing of use, great. So I start to walk down from the 3rd story when I hear footsteps. Someone is near! I've only got a big clunky fire extinguisher, what do I do? Hmmm... So I get to the 2nd floor and using 3pp I take a peek downstairs, and there's an SKS pointed right back up the stairs at me. Oh boy, here we go... In direct talk I say, "Friendly, no need to point that thing up here!" ... silence. He sits there with the gun pointed up, looks ready to fire. I think about things for a few seconds. In direct talk, bluffing of course, I channel my inner Mr Moon and yell "Aight, well if you're not going to withdraw I'm coming down guns blazing! RAR!!!" ... now he sidesteps to the side of the stairs. I can't see him so well. I've got him rattled. That's better than nothing at this point. My odds are bad here, so I try to make the best of it. I've got a few chem lights, figure I'll make it interesting and throw them down the stairs at him. So I put one in my hands and peak around the corner of the stairs and throw it. TAKE THAT!!! And that's when it happens. My toon is stuck standing there with his fists up due to whatever this throwing bug is. Brilliant idea, throw chem lights at him to distract him, but in the process paralyze and cripple myself. I can't move at all. For the love of god I CANNOT MOVE!!! :( Well, long story short, the chem light throw looked like it was in slow motion and went maybe 2 feet (my arm is WAAAAAY better than that!) and then it disappeared, I'm guessing it warped back to another room or maybe it's original spawn location. Well that didn't work so well. As I stand there paralyzed with my firsts up feeling completely disappointed in my weak ass toss of the chem light the guy at the bottom of the stairs sidesteps back over so he can see me and shoots 3 times, the screen goes blank, and I'm dead. Oh DayZ and your Alpha quirks... moral of the story is throwing chem lights to distract a guy at the bottom of the stairs with a loaded rifle is not a good strategy at this time. I look forward to trying it again in the future though!- 1 reply

I need some chicken ammo for my bow, so finding them is important.

Whats your survival record ?
Death By Crowbar replied to lazytek (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
A lot of this depends on the server's population. I typically filter to find servers with at least 25 people to join, if I find the holy grail of a server with 39 I will spam try to enter it. It's easy to survive especially on a server with 10 people or less. Since I gravitate mostly to the more populated servers I get a lot of interaction, and when I decide to take the risk of looting a large northern town I know I'm in for some interesting action. I went for nearly a month on high pop servers such as this putting in at least 20 hours per week without getting killed by a player, although I must admit I take unnecessary risks and die on stairs a lot. A lot. Like I even decided to climb a crane for grins and put some chem lights in there and broke my legs and died in that as well due to a bug. -
What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?
Death By Crowbar replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well now this is interesting - since we're identical in at least that aspect do you notice the tremendous lag so many complain about or is your experience more along the lines of what I'm claiming - that I don't notice any lag in cities? -

Death By Crowbar replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That's totally different from my experience, and the things I assumed could be problems don't look like they are. Check some of those other threads, especially the tweaks one, maybe there's something there that will help. -

You shouldn't. But then again, I don't have these problems. I built my machine about 2 years ago, and I don't lag in cities at all. Not at all. I've got good CPU and good memory, but this is a lower end card by today's standards, only cost me $90 for the card. No lag in cities for me, at all really. And I dual screen and keep task manager and Chrome open with Facebook up, DayZ forums, or anything else that suits my ALT+TAB fantsy. "I ran games" ... "when I had" ... what are you running now, and when you only had 4GB did you try running DayZ? That's the point. I ran all sorts of games on my old machine which only had 4GB as well, but that's not exactly relevant or helpful now is it. Let's help OP with facts. -

Death By Crowbar replied to Halven (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
You do realize that your PC is not a dedicated DayZ chunk of hardware, there are things called system resources and other processes running that also take up memory. So what you're claiming is inaccurate. True, it can technically it can "run" with 2GB or 4GB, but you're going to be paging severely and performance will be garbage, thus my assertion that 2GB or even 4GB of memory is insufficient is accurate. Also, unless I'm mistaken, even with Large Address Aware enabled a single 32 bit process in windows can only ever take up to 3GB of RAM (even though they say 4GB, 1GB of that is reserved for Windows). Here's a screen cap I got of what DayZ was taking up on my machine from just a few weeks ago. There's an entire thread where FPS in cities has been discussed before, check this out for help as well OP. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205865-insane-stuttering-in-citys/ -

Also try these on for size: Possible tweaks to help FPS: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/122-new-player-discussion/ Can I run DayZ: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154395-can-i-run-dayz-retail-post-here/Now, they'll tell you that you can get away with 2GB of RAM, and that 4GB is suggested. I think that is outright wrong, especially if you have anything else running on your machine at all. I've observed DayZ taking up over 2.5GB of RAM, and if you have Google Chrome or pretty much anything else open and only 4GB of RAM you're going to be paging, potentially severely if you have a lot of stuff open. -

What is your system? Specifically: CPU RAM (how much?) Graphics CardFrom what I've seen most people who complain about FPS either don't have enough RAM (4GB is not enough) or don't have a good enough graphics card. Post what you've got and let's have a look. There's also a posty / thread somewhere that talks about this as well that I'm sure someone will be nice enough to dig up and share (I'm too lazy to right now).
