    R.I.P Tent City.

I wish I could see this from the air - it looks as though it could look like a giant dong (aka. penis). If true than I'd say, even though it took an exploit to accomplish it, that's flipping awesome...

If you're going to use exploits maybe you shouldn't post pictures of it?

What should and shouldn't open cans

Well, if we're being realistic - you should be able to walk up to anything concrete and rub the can on it to open it. And look - hardly anything is spilled, works as good as a can opener! Let's be realistic and add this to the game so I don't need to waste inventory slots on things to open cans with!

    Spawn Areas

In my opinion - spawn locations should be as random as possible. The reasons include: Ensure the entire map is used. Mitigate spawn camping killers/bandits. Reinforce the "survivor" aspect of the game. Mitigate artificial map "hot spots".When I originally started playing I would basically only spawn on the coast. It's far too easy to orient yourself and get stuck in a pattern on the coast. I really wish they'd open up the spawn locations a bit more. Well, actually I think they have, but I NEVER spawn in the south anymore which makes me believe they're still heavily weighted or exclusively in the north... probably to make us test those towns, but still... people will test those towns anyway.

    Character reset and no loot?

A number of people have reported this and/or chimed in: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15528 Log into the Bug Tracker and add details of what you're experiencing, vote it up, and help provide details so that it might get addressed quicker!
  6. Death By Crowbar

What is it that causes it?!

What causes it is a known bug that's been around for a long time (at least since December). Log into bug tracker and vote it up! It's already like the 3rd most voted on open issue in the game. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=363

    Where is everyone?

What Deathlove is talking about is actually a logged issue that a number of people have had: It seems as though somehow they get into a state where they cannot find/see any loot, at all, anywhere. From reports I've seen some people have been able to fix this by rebooting and trying a couple of other things. It seems sporadic and not terribly wide spread, but apparently it's happening.
  8. So, I was looting one of the main rows of houses Novo, one of the "blue doors". I went in from the back and ran upstairs to the 3rd foor. Nothing of use, great. So I start to walk down from the 3rd story when I hear footsteps. Someone is near! I've only got a big clunky fire extinguisher, what do I do? Hmmm... So I get to the 2nd floor and using 3pp I take a peek downstairs, and there's an SKS pointed right back up the stairs at me. Oh boy, here we go... In direct talk I say, "Friendly, no need to point that thing up here!" ... silence. He sits there with the gun pointed up, looks ready to fire. I think about things for a few seconds. In direct talk, bluffing of course, I channel my inner Mr Moon and yell "Aight, well if you're not going to withdraw I'm coming down guns blazing! RAR!!!" ... now he sidesteps to the side of the stairs. I can't see him so well. I've got him rattled. That's better than nothing at this point. My odds are bad here, so I try to make the best of it. I've got a few chem lights, figure I'll make it interesting and throw them down the stairs at him. So I put one in my hands and peak around the corner of the stairs and throw it. TAKE THAT!!! And that's when it happens. My toon is stuck standing there with his fists up due to whatever this throwing bug is. Brilliant idea, throw chem lights at him to distract him, but in the process paralyze and cripple myself. I can't move at all. For the love of god I CANNOT MOVE!!! :( Well, long story short, the chem light throw looked like it was in slow motion and went maybe 2 feet (my arm is WAAAAAY better than that!) and then it disappeared, I'm guessing it warped back to another room or maybe it's original spawn location. Well that didn't work so well. As I stand there paralyzed with my firsts up feeling completely disappointed in my weak ass toss of the chem light the guy at the bottom of the stairs sidesteps back over so he can see me and shoots 3 times, the screen goes blank, and I'm dead. Oh DayZ and your Alpha quirks... moral of the story is throwing chem lights to distract a guy at the bottom of the stairs with a loaded rifle is not a good strategy at this time. I look forward to trying it again in the future though!

    Chickens?

I need some chicken ammo for my bow, so finding them is important.

    Whats your survival record ?

A lot of this depends on the server's population. I typically filter to find servers with at least 25 people to join, if I find the holy grail of a server with 39 I will spam try to enter it. It's easy to survive especially on a server with 10 people or less. Since I gravitate mostly to the more populated servers I get a lot of interaction, and when I decide to take the risk of looting a large northern town I know I'm in for some interesting action. I went for nearly a month on high pop servers such as this putting in at least 20 hours per week without getting killed by a player, although I must admit I take unnecessary risks and die on stairs a lot. A lot. Like I even decided to climb a crane for grins and put some chem lights in there and broke my legs and died in that as well due to a bug.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

Well now this is interesting - since we're identical in at least that aspect do you notice the tremendous lag so many complain about or is your experience more along the lines of what I'm claiming - that I don't notice any lag in cities?
  12. Death By Crowbar

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

That's totally different from my experience, and the things I assumed could be problems don't look like they are. Check some of those other threads, especially the tweaks one, maybe there's something there that will help.

You shouldn't. But then again, I don't have these problems. I built my machine about 2 years ago, and I don't lag in cities at all. Not at all. I've got good CPU and good memory, but this is a lower end card by today's standards, only cost me $90 for the card. No lag in cities for me, at all really. And I dual screen and keep task manager and Chrome open with Facebook up, DayZ forums, or anything else that suits my ALT+TAB fantsy. "I ran games" ... "when I had" ... what are you running now, and when you only had 4GB did you try running DayZ? That's the point. I ran all sorts of games on my old machine which only had 4GB as well, but that's not exactly relevant or helpful now is it. Let's help OP with facts.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

You do realize that your PC is not a dedicated DayZ chunk of hardware, there are things called system resources and other processes running that also take up memory. So what you're claiming is inaccurate. True, it can technically it can "run" with 2GB or 4GB, but you're going to be paging severely and performance will be garbage, thus my assertion that 2GB or even 4GB of memory is insufficient is accurate. Also, unless I'm mistaken, even with Large Address Aware enabled a single 32 bit process in windows can only ever take up to 3GB of RAM (even though they say 4GB, 1GB of that is reserved for Windows). Here's a screen cap I got of what DayZ was taking up on my machine from just a few weeks ago. There's an entire thread where FPS in cities has been discussed before, check this out for help as well OP. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205865-insane-stuttering-in-citys/

Also try these on for size: Possible tweaks to help FPS: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/122-new-player-discussion/ Can I run DayZ: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154395-can-i-run-dayz-retail-post-here/Now, they'll tell you that you can get away with 2GB of RAM, and that 4GB is suggested. I think that is outright wrong, especially if you have anything else running on your machine at all. I've observed DayZ taking up over 2.5GB of RAM, and if you have Google Chrome or pretty much anything else open and only 4GB of RAM you're going to be paging, potentially severely if you have a lot of stuff open.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

What is your system? Specifically: CPU RAM (how much?) Graphics CardFrom what I've seen most people who complain about FPS either don't have enough RAM (4GB is not enough) or don't have a good enough graphics card. Post what you've got and let's have a look. There's also a posty / thread somewhere that talks about this as well that I'm sure someone will be nice enough to dig up and share (I'm too lazy to right now).

    Loot issues

I found another issue reported in this build that claims 2 people playing together noticed that one could see items, and the other couldn't, even when standing right in front of it and hitting tab. Have you tried completely shutting DayZ down and maybe even going overkill and rebooting? There's something crazy going on there that, from the way the issues are being reported, causing some people to not see some/all items. Have you died yet? That might be worth trying as well. Also try logging into a Hardcore server and see if you still get it. A lot of time weird states/glitches that are the "sometimes not always" variety can be shaken off if you try a few things. If anything you try works definitely update the ticket.

    Loot issues

The accounts for the bug tracker and the boards are different. Just look around the top and click through and make an account, log in, then come back here and simply click through the link I provided. You'll see an area where you can add to the notes and chime in. The more people report and contribute to these the better and quicker the resolution will be.
  20. Death By Crowbar

    Loot issues

That's... unusual. I see someone already logged that as an issue, was that you? If it wasn't you, you should chime in on the notes and indicate you had the same problem. From the ticket you're not alone, definitely add to the notes if you haven't already. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=15528

    Loot issues

Is this Regular or Hardcore? Stable or Experimental? Also - what's your looting strategy, are you trying every barn, house, etc? What about the buildings that ALWAYS have something, such as hospitals, police stations, fire stations, etc? Are you familiar with what/where they are and have you found anything there?
  22. Death By Crowbar

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

Exactly what EvilTigerAce said. I believe you can chop down any tree or bush in the world. That's a lot of state to track on that alone. Then there's all of the doors, items, gas stations, corpses, zeds, etc. Entirely different game, entirely different purpose and goal. CS is straight FPS, DayZ is not, and for good reason. But back to the topic at hand on the controls - check the bug tracker on what's been reported and what's where in the voting order. For those who don't participate much in the community and especially the bug tracker it's important to remember to go there, every week, and do your part as an Early Access Alpha participant. If you've not been there to report issues let alone vote on them, here's what it looks like:

    0.48 - things I've noticed so far

I had reported this as a bug a while back, I'm glad they fixed it, because it's kinda an exploit! http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=11893
  24. Death By Crowbar

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

This is where you're mistaken, or at least misunderstanding. 100% of everyone here will PVP if it comes to that, but far less than 95% are playing DayZ solely for PVP, because after all, DayZ isn't a PVP game. It's a survival game, with PVE and an ever present PVP threat. If you think the point of the game is to run to an airfield or Berezino and start blasting everyone you see, well, you won't like this game very long and you certainly won't want to play the final product. The controls are still a work in progress, as the whole game is a work in progress. This is what it's like to play an Early Access Alpha product, it's not remotely fished, refined, or optimized properly yet, and it's relying A LOT on the community to submit feedback and report bugs. The controls being complained about are known issues easily found in the bug tracker which you can (and should!) vote on or further report. The entire engine which was an Arma port is being re-written piece by piece and many of the systems are being rewritten. Heck, Zeds only just recently moved to navigating via navmesh. Of course the responsiveness of the controls and such needs to (and will) improve, but there are many systems that aren't even implemented yet and/or that are being re-designed to better fit the end goal of DayZ.
