So, who owns the ".:FOG CLAN MUST DIE" server?
Death By Crowbar replied to Vex_Vehix's topic in General Discussion
Well done [FOG], well done! -
So basically you shouldn't shoot zombies, because surely 1 shot anywhere killing them is an abuse of a game mechanic? Listen - zombies are not complete, and even when they are, zombies are dumb beasts who I will smite systematically regardless their capabilities (or lack thereof). I still contend that the exact same method for dealing with zombies in meelee works on survivors as well, and is really the only way that meelee allows you to be successful at this point.
-
Zombies ignore doors currently. The navmesh implementation helped a TON to ensure zombies don't run right through fences and walls (they would just clip right into any building and right through the floor before that!), but it's well known that the navmesh change didn't fix the issue with them coming through doors. So if you escape plan includes running into a building and closing the door, I would reconsider that until zombie collision is fixed with respect to doors.
-
Oh, right, except for the fact that when making a leaping attack both are capable of killing you in a single hit. And bulls don't run through doors and through obstacles. Bulls also don't magically become invisible and keep hitting you. Bulls also don't ruin your gear making you cold and having to search 3 more towns for a suitable replacement jacket. Bulls also can't follow you for many kilometers and kill you when you try to camp. Bulls also don't resurrect themselves a few dozen yards away only to re-engage and attack you again (even when you're not in their line of sight). Abuse of zombie AI as you call it is fair, because zombies aren't fair. Meelee tactics used on zombies are exactly the same that you will be most successful with on actual survivors, so I don't see the difference, the zombie AI is actually better than some survivors I've faced. It's a cruel world, the name of the game is surviving.
-
When bullfighting are you abusing their AI? Zombies are stupid creatures, and predictable, survivors shall smite them without mercy!

So - is the difference between a hive and a shard something like follows? Hive - central database hosted by Bohemia, the basis of anything persistent. The hive is made up of shards. Shard - the portion of the hive to which server(s) are assigned. A character in shard A will persist in any server in shard A, but not shard B, C, etc. Today in general there are 2 shards for stable branch, 1pp and 3pp. You can currently have up to 2 survivors on stable, 1 on 1pp and 1 on 3pp.If that's correct (I don't know if it is) I have other questions: Are Stable 1pp and 3pp different shards (not different hives)? Are experimental and stable on different hives or different shards? Are additional hives ever expected, that wouldn't be hosted by Bohemia?

how about the servers with 8 times more loot?
Death By Crowbar replied to kakysas666's topic in General Discussion
Why don't you do the responsible thing and report the server? -
Everyone gets off on something! I won't judge!

I don't recall Crysis allowing you to snipe someone from 1km away. That's a very good point. If I read properly also the DayZ engine still renders the back side of buildings and such and there's a ton of optimization yet to happen. It's only going to get better boys! Hold on to your zucchini and potatoes!

Some of those zeds can chase you for a LOOOONG time. They have a greater chance to stick with you if you're not double "w" running and/or running with a weapon armed. Put that weapon away, double tap "w", and put on the afterburners. Running up a mountain then down a steep hill is a good way to help prevent extended aggro from being a problem as any still way out there will likely "zombie bowl" die down the hill.

A lot, it all depends on how hurt you actually are. For example, if you're fully healthy, energized, and hydrated and someone punches you in the face to knock you unconscious, you can wake and then they can punch you unconscious several times. I've been knocked out 3x consecutively this way before, but I swear I've seen youtube videos of people literally getting knocked out at least 5 times in a row without dying. It seems to all depend on your general health, your blood level, etc. Certain things have a greater chance to knock you unconscious vs hurt you - for example, a fire extinguisher is sometimes (for me) preferable to a fire ax because of the knockdown or knock unconscious possibility, it works like punching but more effective I've found. So yeah, you were lucky for sure, but I wouldn't start thinking you're superhuman yet. How does the saying go? Something like, "I'd rather be lucky than good?"

Shrub Rocketeer ™ will come at you like a spider monkey if you so much as touch a pig! Speaking of, the one I ate and cooked last week was delicious.

To heck with broken bones, apparently you can die falling even just 10 feet, this guy did recently: http://www.abc15.com/news/region-phoenix-metro/central-phoenix/fd-man-dies-after-fall-off-camelback-mountain

I normally deem myself fully geared when I can breath a sigh of relief and don't feel I'm frantically missing something. The short list of what I need to feel fully geared is: Backpack Something to open cans Ax (fire or splitting) Matches Gun with at least one box of ammo Jacket with at least 4 slots Pants with 6 slots Couple cans of food (after I'm already energized, hydrated, and healthy) Bandages or ragsAt this point I relax a bit because I've got the bare minimum to survive and also minimally defend myself. Anything else is gravy and above and beyond what I consider "fully geared", luxuries even. It's at this level of gear where I feel comfortable going on extended missions to any part of the map to look for said luxuries.

Let's burn it down.

A few thoughts: Make sure you're double tapping "w" to run fast. When running, you go faster when not carrying a weapon/gun. If you're trying to flee put it away and put on the afterburners. Learn about zombies. It's actually quite easy to be around them and NEVER get hit. Learning how to zombie bowl down hills and also keep moving and circle and avoid and you might never get hit and can have a dozen zombies on you and avoid and/or kill them all without ever drawing a weapon. Here's two videos that will help you with zombies:

In searching for heli crash sites I stumbled upon someone's stash place where there were a few things including spare tents. Trying to be a good fellow survivor I took one tent and left the rest (you're welcome!). So now I've gotta make use of this thing. Any tips? I saw a thread from 10/5 about taking care to not fill it completely or risk a bug where items become invisible. I also understand I should only use it on servers with persistence enabled. How do I tell if this is the case? Any tips would be appreciated.

I did some searching and I found this thread which had a lot of discussion on whether the mechanic is working, servers that are warmer than others, etc but I created a new thread because I'm interested in discussing how everyone is dealing with this currently because it's giving me a hard time: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212229-im-freezing-wait-why/ What I'm looking to get some insight into is how everyone is staying warm enough, consistently (is that even possible right now?). The only method that worked for me was to make and carry a log, matches, and fireplace kit with me everywhere and stop to make a fire when I hit tab and saw I was cold and/or freezing/sick. No combination of gear has consistently been able to keep me warm. Over the past 3 days I've also looked for a rain coat or a Gorka jacket, and I've been able to find neither, oddly. Is stopping to make a fire every 30 minutes or so the only solution currently or have I overlooked something? How is everyone else dealing with this on stable? It's a nice mechanic that adds to the game, it's just very very tough to carry a fire kit and log everywhere. I certainly can't make a new one every 30 minutes to an hour or I'd constantly be looking for replacement axes after ruining them. My assumption is there's some balancing that's still coming to help with this. I've even tried using a gas stove, surely that would warm you but it doesn't. I did also find that in general it's recognized this is an "acknowledged issue" on the Feedback Tracker: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=17130 PS. If noone has noticed making a fire anywhere but on the ground (especially the 2nd or higher floor of a building) renders the fire useless from a warmth perspective. I couldn't find anything about this in the Feedback Tracker, going to keep looking but if I find nothing I'll report that as well.

Oddly since I posted this I managed to find a gear setup that, so long as I'm energized, hydrated, and healthy AND I keepp running seems to keep me from getting a cold status. It's basically Gorka (jacket, pants), Military boots, ballistic helmet, tactical vest (forget which), gloves, etc - all pristine except 1 or 2 are worn. This is on my 1pp char, so maybe the server I happen to play is not as cold as where I normally play in 3pp... I wish there was a way to tell the servers settings.

This is part of what makes DayZ great. ... come run with me, I can guarantee I won't shoot you, but I can guarantee we'll run into someone who will. Know your friends... well. Randoms who hang with you for 20 minutes or more are usually safe but always be on your guard. The apocalypse has many victims, don't be a statistic! If you can find a way to not be a statistic while surviving without killing others, well, you're doing something very right and kudos to you. In the mean time, always watch your six.

I am exactly, 100%, in the same boat as you. We seem to have the same ideal way to play.

DayZ Graphics Settings [FPS Boost]
Death By Crowbar replied to jack0lanturn's topic in New Player Discussion
First thing I would try is lowering your resolution down from 1920x1080 to something smaller and lower the quality to Low, then play with it from there. I did a quick Google and it looks like that card might struggle on higher resolutions. That's the best advice I have, maybe someone has better. -
That survival instinct... that itchy trigger finger... the struggle with loss... the regret... the wish to make amends. The apocalypse needs people like you! :beans:

Back in April or something 2 guys held me up in Balota in the control tower (ground floor), cuffed me, then attempted to use the defibrillator on me. The silly guy in the booney hat defibbed himself instead on accident, and went unconscious. As we all laughed about it a flurry of shots came through the door and we all died. Needless to say my first run in with the defibrillator was hilarious and deadly.

Looking around the map and... wait, are those like the Nazca lines?
Death By Crowbar posted a topic in General Discussion
This actually exists? Is this like the Nazca lines in Peru?
