How much of DayZ have you experienced?
Death By Crowbar replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I've done it, and I've actually found one locked in a room before - I could hear it, but couldn't see it. I was thinking, where is it? I open the door and boom he hits me and ruins my jacket. I circled around, lured him back in, and shut the door again on my way out. I find it works better with interior doors (locking them in a room) vs exterior doors (merely locking them in a house). -
Enjoy it while it lasts. Literally looks like the guy is wrestling with a snake around his neck or something over and over.

Someone basically asked the same thing in this post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/213313-where-is-everyone/ Here's what I offered up there as well - On high pop servers I'd rank the following in order of likelihood you'll run into someone in: Berezino Elektro Novo/Svetlo greater areas (these are so close I sometimes consider them in the same thought) NWAF Balota ChernoI've found that some of the smaller military bases are popular lately. For myself, lately I've been doing a lot of running inland hitting up the smaller town locations and also attempting to find helicopter crashes. I've also hit up that military tent place WAAAAY out west. I think there's more than a few who're like myself and using a lot more of the map in that manner. With the new military base in the far north that should spread things even more. It's funny if you think about it - Maybe through April-ish 2014 - most spawns were in the south, Elektro/Balota were the places to be. April-ish 2014ish through August-ish 2014 - all spawns moved up north, Berezino/Svetlo/Novo/NEAF were the places to be. Then NEAF got crippled and that was sorta removed from the top spots. Bugged Vybor spawn was best chance at NWAF without a 45 minute run. August-ish 2014 to present - spawns are once again all over the map and people are much more spread out. There's also more incentive to spread out and use more of the map with things such as helicopter crashes to look for and some of the military base changes.People who've been gone for 6 months or more never experienced the northern spawn era and probably stick more south because it's what they know, people who started playing during the northern spawn era are more comfortable up north and may stick up that way more. Ultimately though, it's going to be a server by server thing on where people gravitate to. I stood in the middle of the road in Kamishovo(sp?) for an hour the other day and ran into 8 people... 8 people!!! It makes sense though because it's on the way to Elektro and there's a police station there worth checking on the way.

Chernarus construction crews do some shoddy work... that guy who had "one job!" to make the railing is probably a zombie now anyway.

Some zombies run faster than others, I've encountered some I can't outrun (or at least thought I'd have to run to an entirely different town in order to outrun). The ones that keep up with me closely I usually turn around and kill, or at least knock down and keep running. If I'm a bambi and I've just got fists I'll also use some other tactics, such as: Running around obstacles and/or through houses to confuse/lose them Lock them in houses (this actually works a lot!) Go bowling (find a steep hill and make them chase you down it so they die) Pass the ball - run by other survivors or animals for them to attack instead. I've had luck with crazy things such as getting them to chase cows or something instead a few times, but there's usually not a ton of wildlife around to pass them off onto.

Funny - I just stumbled upon this in Mogilevka as well and remembered this post. Weird wallpaper in there!

Propane Stoves? Do they work
Death By Crowbar replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Really? I couldn't get it to work. ... wait a sec, now that I think about it I might have tried it on a 2nd or 3rd story of a building. There's a bug where nothing gives warmth unless it's on the ground. Maybe that was my problem? -
0.50 Showcase - Repeater in action, visible Navmesh, Mp-133, Lockpicking, different lootspawns and the new military base!
Death By Crowbar replied to Tovervlag's topic in Gallery
The lock picks look like they could be as fun as handcuffs... potentially... I wonder if they work on handcuffs? -
Propane Stoves? Do they work
Death By Crowbar replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Those gas stoves should also provide warmth. I can't wait until they actually do that (I hope they eventually do that!). -
So are rocket launchers going to be added soon?
Death By Crowbar replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
Rocket launcher... ummm... does it fire rounds of Dean Hall? What is this launcher you speak of? And where and why is it launching Dean? This sounds unsafe. -
Why you should NOT post topics about hacking
Death By Crowbar replied to ChainReactor's topic in General Discussion
I like the message you're trying to convey, but it's already been conveyed and I see this getting merged into the hacking status thread. Maybe some of your thoughts could go into the parent post of the hacking status thread, I could see that providing value. In the mean time, this is the only hacking I'd like to discuss - when are chainsaws getting added and when can we harvest sticks in such a manner? Rope + Chainsaw = Hacking Awesome. -
I magically broke my legs. Guess where.
Death By Crowbar replied to EvilTigerAce's topic in General Discussion
The stairs are an illusion. They may look sturdy and safe but how they function currently can look more like this: The control towers it's riskier to get shot taking the ladder but you certainly won't die because of the stairs going that way. This isn't really an option in the fire station. Make sure to pray before you use those stairs! -
By the way, reported the spammer alina22 above.

When are we going to get gold spray paint cans?
Death By Crowbar replied to PongoZ's topic in General Discussion
Golden guns are for James Bond. If you want to attract ladies to the game, add pink spray paint, they'll love it! I know a number of female players and streamers who would probably go nuts for pink spray paint. Remember, this is a zombie survivor game, not a military combat game. What would civilian survivors actually be doing? They wouldn't be getting kitted out in cammo trying to kill everyone... but they would defend themselves, hopefully in style. -
Assuming you get your firewood (hitting F to chop it down and not meelee whacking it with your ax) have you made a fire before and gotten that working ok? The part that once upon a time tripped me up was the fact that you needed the matches in hand in order to ignite it. Good luck, stay warm...

How do I not panic/shake when I get in a gunfight?
Death By Crowbar replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
Great post OP, great point. Half Life 2, Quake, Doom, UT, etc - lots of FPS games and this is the first where I too end up shaking during a firefight, or at least after it. It's pretty awesome. I don't always get killed though, but it's always a rush. It's because you don't kill a lot of people and DayZ has a great risk with death, it could take you hours or days to get back to where you were previously from a gear and progress standpoint, and certain items you might not find again for weeks (potentially, depending on how much time you have to play). You're also likely like me and not a straight KOS player, which explains a lot. -
As a volunteer firefighter, I would love to see more R.P/Kits with all the firefighting gear. (As well as more functionality)
Death By Crowbar replied to amazingmazer's topic in General Discussion
I like this. We already have: EMT gear (red, blue) Press gear (vest) Military (various) Civilian (various)I think it would make a lot of sense to add gear that aligns with the other types of buildings or roles in game. I could see the fireman's jacket being a flashy yet very protective piece of gear, including the fireman's helmet. I suspect my idea of what a USA fireman and what a Chernarus fireman would look like are totally different though... maybe something like this? -
Phenomenon: People that constantly talk to themselves
Death By Crowbar replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
I was hiding in the Police Station downstairs bedroom once, and I heard two guys upstairs. Guy 1 - "Friendly, friendly!" Guy 2 - "Ok, putting my gun away." Guy 1 - "Thanks, got anything to trade in that backpack?" Guy 2 - "This is good, we could be friends." Guy 1 - "Friends with benefits sounds good." Pause... Me - "OMG you guys get a room!!!!" Footsteps... *bang bang bang* Guy ? - "Ok, where's your friend at? I knew I couldn't trust you!" At that point I ran out the back laughing... hilarious. -
I couldn't decide how to use the thermometer, I was also concerned where it had been used last. I didn't have any alcohol to cleans it with so I left it alone. Ewww...

I've seen people take advantage of the full red medic outfit with a red beret and while holding a medkit totally complete the look... and allowed them to totally role play the part as well.

Need motivation to play 3p view servers
Death By Crowbar replied to vnratc's topic in General Discussion
I think of motivation to play 3pp as follows: It's easier to see what's around your avatar when looting. It's easier to meelee zombies. It's fun to watch your character run and see all of your sweet gear. You have the possibility of taking screenshots that include your avatar and his sweet gear. You can see what emote F key actions are actually doing, which is good. It's easier to see if you're bleeding. You can take advantage of the 3pp camera. People will complain that is exploiting but since everyone can do it the playing field is sort of leveled out and fair. It's difficult to argue it's exploiting when everyone has the same capability without having to do anything crazy to experience it. Granted - sitting in a manner that the 3pp camera goes outside of a window to look down streets or positioning the camera to look downstairs to see who's in the room down there where it's impossible to be seen are cases where it's arguable that you're not exactly playing in an ethical way - but people do it all of the time, especially when they run up to a fence/corner outside and can look over it as if they're 10 feet tall. Those are all good reasons for 3pp. -
You might find this helpful, it's slightly dated but it should all apply to you: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/210731-after-a-67-month-break-from-dayz/ I'd posted the following there:

The term bandit what it means now
Death By Crowbar replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
It's a "figure of speech", they play like 12 year olds, not that they're actually 12 years old. This topic comes back up at least once per month, and it's been beat to death, but when it comes up again people who've not participated in it before get to share their thoughts. The trend is always the same: About 1/3 are evil and say, "If I see you, you die!" About 1/3 are good and say, "KOS is garbage, go back to CoD!" About 1/3 are neutral and say, "I'll defend myself if I need to, I will survive!"The trend is also: Bandit - is not someone KOS, typically someone who's going to hold you up and steal your stuff or cuff you and mess with you. KOS / Murderer - someone who is just going to shoot you because they can, likely not even interested in your loot/gear at all. -
There's nothing quite like DayZ. We're all essentially participating in an early access alpha and not even playing anything resembling the release version, and I'm still thinking the ~$30 USD I spent on it after playing 600+ hours is a great bargain. All of the hope, anticipation, anxiety, stress, loss, hopelessness, frustration, surprise, and sense of accomplishment is a rollercoaster that I like a lot. DayZ is good stuff, some of the changes take some getting used to but in general I look forward to any updates that come along every Wednesday. In the end, there's one great thing about an early access alpha - weird shit happens that's hilarious that may only last a week but you get to enjoy the devs accomplishments along with their failures and I think it's part of what I like about DayZ currently. ... except for the insta stair death bug, that one is a freaking jerk.
