No mags? That's like giving away a PS4 or XBox1 with no games or no controllers. Pffffft... a nice gesture but I cry foul like an 8 year old on Christmas! >:(

Why do the majority of players i encounter suck?
Death By Crowbar replied to drjuanitor's topic in General Discussion
It's not that they suck, they're surviving by eliminating you as a threat. Granted, that's not how I choose to survive. I ran around Elektro with 3 other random guys (one of them was stoned out of his mind and hilarous) for 3 hours on Wednesday killing zombies, handing out food, bandaging people, etc). Met probably a dozen people, and helped kill 3 people who randomly attacked people in the town. I ended up getting blown away by a sketchy guy that everyone said to beware of, but it was a good run. Before I got to Elektro I even ran into a guy in Kamishovo who just started and had only been playing for 20 minutes. I explained a bunch of things to him (street signs, maps, buildings of importance, weapons, how to deal with zombies, how to approach people in a non-threatening manner, etc) and took him to Elektro to look for more gear. I ended up losing him (his avatar name was Kevin or something) but it was a lot of fun. Then tonight the only interaction I got was from a hacker who came in through a 3rd story window and although I got knocked out the majestic power of the double barrel shotgun seemed to have done the trick and I awoke to find the hacker's corpse. *flex* Yep, that was shitty but I felt good about the outcome. Logged the hell out of Grey Matter server (was full 40/40) and went to a lower pop one to finish my evening. You're going to find all kinds - and you're right - it seems like the average player gravitates towards KOS. However, I can assure you there are good people out there, true survivors, that are choosing other ways to survive than killing everyone they see. It's no fun to be a bambi again. Keep the faith... heroes and survivors are out there, not everyone are KOS murderers or bandits. -
I was sent in as a one man army. I'm still fighting...

So... Is it just me or do servers restart way too often?
Death By Crowbar replied to KrackProphet's topic in General Discussion
Personally, the last 2-3 days I've played I've not gotten more than 4 houses into looting before the server restarted. I actually was somewhere up north, forget if it was Svetlo or Novo or where, but there's a police station right next to some apartments. I'd loot the police station and then loot the apartments. Within an hour and a half I had 7 sets of handcuffs because about 80% of the time I went back to the police station after a restart (or crash) there'd be cuffs there. I'm 99% positive that server (and the other 2 I tried) didn't have persistence because the gas stoves I kept assembling and starting in the apartments weren't there anymore after the restart (or crash). So there's that... and those had been higher pop servers, one of them was either Pimpsy's or Kilo's. -
That's a great point Steak - because if they were pedestrians they would have walked/ran there rather than jumped to their deaths. LOL. :beans:

Were there any changes to meelee weapons recently? I ask because the pickaxe used to be 1 hit for zombies, and now it's 2. That seemed new to me...

Here's a post where someone recently asked the same question. Check in there as well: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212994-returning-player

I wouldn't steal someone's shoes in real life, but I will hold you up and steal yours! :P

I have something else to confess: One of the many times someone asked me to kill them so they could get a better spawn I refused, so they found a zombie and were letting it kill them. It just didn't seem right, so I killed the zombie and bandaged the guy. He got mad and tried a few more zombies and I killed them too. He then ran to a water tower and jumped off but survived but broke his leg. I made him a splint. He got pissed and attempted to log off so he could die on another server. As his avatar sat there I protected it so noone would kill him. Even though he was rude, flipped me off, and cussed me out it felt good to be a hero and save a life.

In some games those are called "Mangina" (you know, like vagina, but a man). I was running around Elektro yesterday with a guy who was stoned off his ass and he was calling them "Dude Chicks". I'm still trying to determine from the description how Bman was tricked and what exactly happened that got him killed 15 seconds later?

A few confessions: I break every chemlight and flare I see. I also hook up and ignite every gas lamp and gas stove I find. I tear every tshirt I find into rags, even if I don't need them and just leave them there. Even though I've said it's a stupid idea I'm secretly hoping they add pooping to DayZ.

If there's a penalty for not wearing shoes [FOG] is in trouble...

A general census - how much of DayZ have you experienced? Long story short, this weekend I was thinking about various game mechanics and things put in to help people survive. I was also thinking about how in a normal play session if I'm near the cost it seems there's a constant stream of bambis running either north towards Berezino or south towards Elektro for those who seem to play the game with the motto "attack everyone, find guns and start shooting". So it got me further thinking - I wonder how many of the survival mechanics or more obscure things in the game people actually experience and use. Here's a rough 12 things that I think are give a litmus test on how much of the game's content people are actually taking advantage of or avoiding entirely. You can select multiple of course (all that apply).

What do you think about realism in DayZ?
Death By Crowbar replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
I think realism needs to be tempered with what's reasonable to result in a game that's worth playing. Realism to a higher degree in having a 1:1 time ration (not time moving at super speed) along with proper exhaustion and run speed alone would result in a game that's essentially unplayable. It would be impossible to travel anywhere within a reasonable period of time. Anyone who merely had an hour or two to jump on and play probably wouldn't because it would be difficult to make it further than 1 or 2 towns, and forget hiking up into the woods inland towards some of the harder to get places. Not only would this game not be playable, it wouldn't be any fun. Understanding that this is a game and certain mechanics need to be unrealistic in order to keep it playable and fun enough there are a few things that would be awesome to have, but I think I've seen most of them already discussed before or even already planned in the rough road map. Combined with tweaking some of the effects that are already a little out of whack I think the realism is going to far exceed anything else out there and be more than please the general masses. With 2.5 copies sold and counting, there's a lot of people to keep happy - they can't and won't cater solely to the CoD style lazy crowd (resulting in something too far from realism) and they also can't and won't cater solely to the hardcore "I'm going to craft everything and live off the land HARDCORE style!" crowd (resulting in something far too realistic and not very fun). I'm pretty happy with the general direction. -

Death By Crowbar replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Yep. As I run through Chernarus it's kinda how I envision things, and I try to keep things humorous and not get too serious. I'm always looking for that last Twinkie... -
This is a good idea. I've never bought anything on Ebay from someone without a good reputation. Something like 1 vote per user, and votes only count if someone has participated in a trade with someone else (something to show they're not just the same user logging in and voting themselves up like item dupers do).

Here's a good post to start with: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154039-beginners-guide/ A few tips: It's all about learning the map and which types of buildings are worth looting vs which are worth skipping. Read street signs to know what town you're in and what towns are coming up. There's a few map sites but here's one that I use: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus Learn to look for wells and fresh water ponds are (if you have a water bottle or canteen you can even collect water from the rain!) More than just the can open can open cans (axes, machete, knives, screwdriver, etc)That should at least get you started on the food and water problem. I've got 650 hours played and I can get energized (full of food) and hydrated (full of drink) easily within an hour (perhaps less). DayZ is a big place and with the regular updates on Wednesdays it changes every so often, so there's a lot of running and learning the hard way (dying) that you'll likely do before you get comfortable. Good luck!

There's other types of meat - you can get meat from killing cows, elk, chickens, boars, etc. If you have a knife or machete you can skin and quarter them and get meat and other things such as skins, feathers, etc. So you can do more than just fish! -
Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.
Death By Crowbar replied to Ham_Sandwich27's topic in General Discussion
Ham_Sandwich27 <- of course this post would come from an OP who's username was all about food! :D It's not that bad getting energized and hydrated, you need to focus on the buildings that have bigger payoffs for those things and don't waste time in buildings where there is often nothing at all. Also you must recognize when you're in a bad server - I once looted the entirety of Elektro and found nothing, 0, zilch, nadda, not a single drop of food or drink... in all of Elektro. That happened 2 weeks ago. I barely made it to Cherno and it was like the promised land, food everywhere. I ate until I almost puked and then got shot while dealing with a zombie, LOL. But that's the worst I've had it recently. It usually takes me *maybe* 20 minutes tops to get energized and hydrated, but I do always immediately figure out my location and pull up DayZDB and figure out where my closest point target location for looting is skipping anything that's a low chance at paying off from looting. -
What's the best place to locate grenades? I've still not managed to find one. I've tried Balota, NWAF, and a few of the smaller military bases with no luck.

I actually thought about asking about this but as far as I'm aware including you only 2-3 people have ever done it, and I knew it would only get 2-3 votes. :D -
DISHONORABLE PLAYSTYLE - What Do You Think?
Death By Crowbar replied to street707's topic in Gallery
Let's talk about all of the matching press vests and other matching gear. It almost seems as if they dressed in "duplicate"? That's the dishonorable part. -
So what do you guys mostly find at heli crashes?
Death By Crowbar replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
I'm yet to find a helicrash. I ran for hours the other day with no luck. When I do find one, I expect to also find dead people. Mwuaa ha ha ha! B)
