Strange and sudden death - bug? [video]
Death By Crowbar replied to nl's topic in General Discussion
This smells like the desync gods smiting you. One thing you can do that might help defend against this is to vault when you get to the top of the stairs. -
We Dedicated Few: A Guide to Debug Island
Death By Crowbar replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
You guys should really put some crops out there. I think fresh water will be the only long term problem, but if you're on a server that has a lot of rain you can probably mitigate that. -
You should have carved up the guy who died first and played dodgeball with his guts and gore.

I'm trying to determine why you brought the dress... what did you guys DO out there Tatanko!?? -
Persistence, and Weekly Maintenance.
Death By Crowbar replied to brswing's topic in General Discussion
Being a random camp terrorist could be more fun and fulfilling than being a bandit. It's all about the guts and gore! If you're really motivated - getting a bunch of fish and guts would be about as gangster as it gets... -
Persistence, and Weekly Maintenance.

I had killed and gutted a few players and chickens, and my inventory was overflowing with meat, guts, feathers, and gore so I put it all in 2 barrels that I randomly found... -
I'm also curious about this. I *thought* it was something more random/complex than merely ensuring 5 M4's are spawned and available to loot somewhere on the map.

Looking at patch .58 In General, What has changed?!
Death By Crowbar replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
Did that change? I didn't notice, will have to check tonight! I recall you were pretty outspoken and against the couple of iterations where it seemed to get nerfed little by little. I'm most excited about the loot economy changes and persistence. While I enjoyed the "times of plenty" with the guard houses where you could gear up in 5 minutes or less, now that you once again have to work to find what you need and survive people will act more like survivors and make more thoughtful choices about when to engage a fellow player in a fight vs friend vs avoid them completely. I'm also looking forward to stumbling upon people's camps... -
I haven't found a pink dress in a while...

[Question] Beta Release
Death By Crowbar replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
.56 was problematic so it was skipped and so much changed they bounced over it to .57. That happens sometimes. Hicks even said in one of his latest interviews or reports that the Dean vision of weekly builds has sort of shifted, it's more like a build will be ready when it's deemed safe for Stable and has enough in it to justify it. You'd think they're trying for monthly but that's not a line in the sand truth. Also, when you think of version numbers - few development shops have a convention that is unwavering and 100% consistent. Afterall, look at Microsoft. You've got Windows 3.5, 95, 98, NT/ME/crap, Vista, 7, 8, 10. Does any of that exactly make sense when you look at it that way? No, but if you know the history of what they've done and what they're trying to do skipping the 9's is obvious. A company I used to work for had an older product that's final version was 5.0. They called it "v5". But then the new product came in development through v4.7, v4.8, v4.9 and then they decided to skip 5 all together to avoid confusion internally and with older clients. In fact, they tried to abandon the numbering convention all together and started doing stupid crap like naming the revisions after ships, such as Intrepid, Reliance, etc. Then they went back to numerics again. Thus with any development shop there's some patterns that are obvious, but they don't always dictate what was or what will be. Build numbers and "conventions" tend to evolve. -
I went to the prison expecting an Aladdins cave...
Death By Crowbar replied to Shiva_O's topic in General Discussion
I agree as well - plus it's impossible to find enough ammo for constant action now anyway since the guard buildings are no longer loot pinatas. Well, maybe if you're really good at tracking people down and head shotting them... but even then you're going to spend a lot of time tracking geared people to do that. People need to kick back and relax, survive, and take encounters that make sense rather than attack everything that moves. -
Call me a fan boy if you will, but I'm pumped!

Why is the amount I can look up limited?
Death By Crowbar replied to WilliamTheConqueror's topic in General Discussion
I'm guessing this is temporary and will change at some point? I can't imagine standing at the base of a ladder and not being able to look directly up and shoot someone on it (let alone see them, you know, in case it's a friend). -
I think the ease of access of various gear at this point is an opportunity to hone skills and test mechanics. The past few days I've been bumming around in Elektro working on iron sights, dealing with sway when returning fire after being chased, controlling spray from automatics, etc. Yes, this means I've been playing some bandit and maybe some random murder but if you've got a "don't fire until fired upon" motto just running through Elektro once or twice it's easy to find a candidate to return fire at. From that standpoint it's great right now.

Difference between standalone and mod?
Death By Crowbar replied to hansanitizer's topic in General Discussion
You mean the motorized sofas, right? -
I've played hero more often than anything else, but it usually leads to a quicker death and gear back up session. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I meet people who don't shoot on sight...

New distant lightsource mechanics?
Death By Crowbar replied to ZomboWTF's topic in General Discussion
Where is ? Maybe he or one of the other devs know the story on this and can save some testing time. Oh, and FYI - you can get a chem light easily, but someone has to die. Mwuaa ha ha ha!!! :D -

The original art direction for the popular American TV show "The Simpsons" was rather rough and after years of refinement is much better and has come to be the iconic thing that it is today. In short, it's different but better. Also, The Simpsons is not done yet, neither is StandAlone. -
New distant lightsource mechanics?
Death By Crowbar replied to ZomboWTF's topic in General Discussion
This is all good. Light sources at night are the benefit/risk they should be when it renders that far. I wonder if some of the render distances for light sources change when they're carried by a player? For example, I can't see a shirt from very far, but I can see a shirt ON a player maybe 250 meters. Past about 800 meters I just see a head and arms, I don't even see players shirts, pants, etc anymore. I forget when that started but it's hilarious. -
Interesting, even surprising stats.
Death By Crowbar replied to Baker.'s topic in General Discussion
I think this one is simple - DayZ is a grind. Most people want instant fun, action, and gratification. That's not DayZ. DayZ can be long periods of running and not finding others, and then when you find others they're more likely than not to behave like this is CS:GO/CoD and shoot first asking questions later. Many of the good servers are private servers, which are very limited in space. Finding good fully populated public servers can be a challenge, especially lately. I almost think that the WELL over stocked guard building steps was an attempted to add back that immediate gratification and action to woo back some players, and from the Twitch streamers I watch it actually did. I think once DayZ is further towards beta and increases the server population limits this will change and the average users will increase back up. I mean, after all, look how often people come back to the boards and ask questions like, "Is it stable enough to play yet?", "Time to come back?", "Is .58 worth playing?", etc. People are watching and waiting and some are actually heeding Rocket's old suggestion to hold off and wait. -
I've been thinking about this topic a lot lately - and the bottom line is that unless my main weapon is an SVD, or something with a hunting scope it's almost pointless for me to carry another weapon, I either don't have time to switch or die before being able to use it. However, often any weapon with ammo is a good weapon, so it all depends. In a perfect world I'd probably opt for an FNX with it's 15 round clip - more than sufficient and doesn't take up too much space.

WHAT SHOULD BE ADDED TO DAYZ?

Is hot chicks and lasers, maybe hot chicks with lasers too much to ask for?
