Fire and smoke giving away your position?
Death By Crowbar replied to Old_Crow_Whiskey's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's nice to know it's safe to have a fire and not draw moths to a flame... for now. -
Name of the game - survive. It's a zombie survival game, but right now other survivors are by far the biggest threat in the game (followed closely by ATC/firestation stairs, followed by zeds). Never ever assume you're alone, always be looking for movement and listening. You need to play like the frightened little mouse, always taking cover and keep moving. The biggest defense you have is cover and distance - if someone is after you NEVER stop running to hide or turn around, use your numpad 1 and 3 to look behind you, keep swerving, and get distance. The greater distance, the less likely they are to hit you. Noone will chase you too far, they're typically too lazy. That being said, don't get lulled into the lazy way of playing - attempting to kill everyone you see. Know that highly populated and full servers are PVP playgrounds that draw other negative elements, if you want to play a casual more safe game a mid-pop server is by far a better bet. In the end be true to how you want to play. Chenarus is a dangerous place - it needs bad guys (murderers, bandits, kamakazi bambis, crazy people) but it also needs all the good guys it can get. If you want to play the role of neutral to good keep true to that and don't get drawn to the dark side of the force. If you can find 1-2 friendlies who'll coop loot and look out for each other as a rag tag group it helps a lot and can be a lot of fun.

... but when you find it, it's like hitting the jackpot! Unless of course the spawn is a massive pile of seeds, fertilizer, and spray paint... I've found that before. It was the only time I tried farming, I planted a ton of stuff because I had everything I needed right there in one of those open 4 level parking garage looking construction buildings near Cherno.

I do not support this effort. Where's the honor? Where's the sport?

HAHAHAHAHA... I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you... errr. Yeah, we've all been there. :( The second that I saw him keep twitch moving around I knew he was up to no good.

Keep in mind - there's nothing like that day when you find a friendly and coop loot a town or two with him/her... ... only to have them get bored and shoot you when you thought you were completely safe. It's happened to me. -
How is the outsourced zombie work coming along?

Every time you write something I get images like this in my head and I start to laugh... ... I can't help it I'm still laughing! -
How is the outsourced zombie work coming along?

There have been *some* changes to zombies over the past 10 months though. Those include: Navmesh initial implementation. This caused zombies to path better and go through far fewer walls, doors, and floors. I believe it was also a prerequisite to more animals and stuff. Introduction (and then removal) of the hopper. That little bastard showed up roughly around .49 (maybe a build or two before) and then disappeared as quickly as he came in .50. There was a thread about his disappearance. There were others as well - I know that the zombie hitbox had been moved/tweaked and a few other things were done. At least now you can *most of the time* lock them behind doors, which is helpful in dealing with them as a bambi when it works. -

For me it goes in spurts, and it depends on where I am and also what server I'm on. I had a bad run where basically from July nearly through November I had all hostile interactions, seemingly at least 95% of the time. However recently it's mostly been friendly - but maybe that's because my recent adventures have been to castles looking for a sword (still haven't found one) and also checking out various inland towns that I've not checked out before. If you're on the coast anywhere between Elektro and Berezino you're in the "PVP and bambi corpse cannon highway", if that's where you gravitate to that will explain a lot. -
I second this. I find them where I usually don't expect to find them - and it's usually in one of these houses or the police station. Same goes for PU scope.

Seriously though - the most productive thing for everyone to do would be to check the bug tracker regularly and ensure tickets that interest (or hinder) you the most get votes. If you've not checked it in a while, get back there and do your duty not as a DayZ survivor, but as an early access alpha adventurer! http://feedback.dayzgame.com/plugin.php?page=Vote/list_bugs

Captain no-humor oblivious at your service. What is this sorcery of words you've tricked me with, survivor? ... i r stewpid.

I saw Eugen posted this on Twitter. What I've not seen is what time frame this encompasses - is this all time? Elektro is practically on fire compared to everything else. As for the deaths all over the place - I can't tell you how many times I randomly ran into someone in the woods and had an altercation, or someone chased me, OR I might have alt+tabbed and came back dead because a random zed in the middle of nowhere got me. I'm not surprised there's deaths all over the map even in the woods. I've also seen streamers such as Anthony_Kongphan run into people in the most random places in fields and such. The ones in the water though, I can't explain that, but it's funny.

That's really not that uncommon, especially for Microsoft stuff. Almost noone wants to be bleeding edge, everyone usually waits at least a year before upgrading. 2 years behind isn't anything I'd consider "behind". If they were still on 2008 or 2005, well, that would be something one might raise an eyebrow at.
-
A more productive way to also address this would be to find the links for the primary reported issue in the bug tracker and ask people to vote it up. I imagine the dev team has to prioritize certain things based on what's sensible given the changes that are in progress and planned, such as certain things may not be addressable until the various parts of the new engine are completed, but from what I've seen there's a chance that if there's enough support from the community something that *could* be addressed sooner than later might get re-prioritized. They do seem to pay attention to that, which is cool.

The cow... you had me at the cow! Great story. That ending though - it's tough when you don't know if stairs or someone abusing the system is going to end a perfectly good run. I think that's one thing the community as a whole is patiently waiting to get past, but until then, tragedy loves company!

Get hoe slapped = pwnage I don't mind using the hoe for hilarity reasons (and it works great!).

How do you set up your hotbar, and why?
Death By Crowbar replied to IReadTheAgreement's topic in General Discussion
Meelee Gun Compass Bandage SplintIf I've got more I start rearranging at 3. I HATE that sodas and stuff just show up on there. If all I've got is an ax there's nothing more annoying than hitting 1 and accidentally hitting 2 and you start drinking a soda... that's just, awesome when that happens. So intimidating, phear my Pipsi! -
Server hopping, the 60 second countdown, crashes, and game loading
Death By Crowbar replied to LORDPrometheus's topic in General Discussion
It's not effective, but it's prohibitive enough while not being too punitive to people who legitimately are trying to log back in that it's worth doing until something better is found. It's difficult to determine why you're reconnecting (server hopping, moving from low pop to high pop, crash, network blip, log out for bio break, phone call, etc). -
If that ghillie suit is too hot I'll take it off your hands! :) From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghillie_suit

Yeah, many people have - and it's been addressed in a few threads, such as this one: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/218588-attention-all-server-hosters/?hl=kick I had even PM'd boneboys about it maybe a week ago - I was supposed to get the name/IP of the servers in question, but the servers I think I had issues with seem gone (there were 2 or 3, all public hive)...
-
Search on "character reset", you'll find a lot of reading around it. There are issues, but typically if you log out immediately and log into the server you were just on previously you can fix it. Also a lot of people get confused logging into private hives or 1pp vs 3pp servers. Thus the biggest question is - do you know what you did exactly? What server were you on last and then what server you just tried and the differences between them? The answer is most likely there.
-
I'm sure kichilron, boneboys, or one of the other mods will be happy to help look into this. From everything I've read what they're doing on a public hive is against the rules. Someone's gonna get slapped!

I want to play as a zed and chase down & eat people... ... wait, I don't need to be a zed to do that!
