I was concerned about this as well. It's early access alpha, so anything is possible I suppose.

SKS or Mosin. I was a terrible newb and nearly got killed by a guy with an ax because I didn't realize that hip shooting without aiming was basically useless (especially when I wasn't even aiming properly for it).

I've not died to a zed in months. Last 5 player encounters (where they didn't have powers like Nightcrawler from Xmen, and literally crawling on the ground as well) I won them all... I did have a poor run prior to that though where luck and trust were not on my side.

110 hours... with that much gear... do you play on populated servers? If you happen to bounce on servers with pops between 1-5 people it's easy to get geared to the gills and overflow - best advice is to join a server with a mid-high population and do something with that gear, otherwise it's like picking flowers for momma and never bringing them home. There's no fun in that...

Keep calm, meelee (especially weapon balancing) is nowhere near complete, as this is an alpha and that is all slated for tuning and review. OP has a good observation, but one that's a known issue and balance tuning item that's already on the road map before this early access alpha hits beta status.

DayZ is a zombie survival game. Oh wait... "You have died." ... the only thing more potentially dangerous than zombies is other survivors. And firestation/ATC stairs.

I heard Greg attempted suicide off a water tower and lived, failing at that as well. Coulda been a different Greg... there's a lot of Greg out there.

Two stories of interest. 1) I was in Balota (back in May/June 2014ish) looting ATC. Two clowns barge in guns blazing and order me down. I comply, and they cuff me. Clown A takes out his defibrillator and tries to torture me with it. Hilariously, it shocks him instead and he falls unconscious. Clown B can't stop laughing and is trying to help Clown A. I'm laughing too. Right as Clown A starts to sit/stand up again a wave of bullets fly through the 1st story door and we all die from another group of people gunning us down. This was when I learned the humor and sorrow of raiding bases. 2) I was a newspawn on the coast in the south (by that lighthouse sorta near Kamyshovo). So a friend is north near Berezino and I'm running there and they log, so I decide to log to. The next night I log in and sorta have a desire to head back towards Elektro - so I run that way hitting up anything I find along the way (I think I started near the factory or near the quarry north of Kamyshovo). By the time I make it to Kamyshovo on the way to Elektro I'm in a bad place from a hunger/thirst perspective. This was the release when the wells were all busted, the well in Kamyshovo was tits on a bull to me and I'd forgotten to stop off at that little pond on the way south. So I'm rampaging every house in Kamyshovo but there's not a lot around, and there's a few other bambis in the town (as there always is). One of the few times I'm playing during the day without my wife and two young kids around and I'm able to use my mic - I shout for help that I'm starving/dehydrated and nearing death, my screen is going grey. One guy is trying to help me while another is trying to kill me for what little gear I have. Well, we manage to kill the guy trying to kill me, but start to pass out on the front doorstep of the police station. That's when some other clown with an ax blindsides the guy who was trying to help me and kills him, and then he WAITS for me to die, talking to me the whole time as my screen goes grey, I go unconscious, and then the "You have died" shows up. He proceeds to take everything from me. I wasn't mad, at least he stuck with me and didn't leave as I perished. An interesting death for sure, people there the whole way to see me to the other side...

Money question - how long have you had that gun, or when was the last time you've logged in? I've not seen one in a while. If you find a magnum or something I'd dump it asap... Unless you want to keep a now rare and underpowered item.

On a high pop server there's a 90% death rate on that run, or at least a 90% rate of facing death (especially by unnatural means) while under geared. If that gear run at all involves anything about server hopping forget it, that's chump advice. You'll spend an hour or two running to lose it quickly when you log back into a real server. Now that I think about it - this is the PVP "I don't know how to survive long" loot run. Gearing up by running through the most popular areas? That's about as good advice as starting a camp fire in the middle of Elektro and attempting to hand out food rations on Christmas day...

BI and BE are both not oblivious about the current situation and the competitive game launch that doesn't suffer from such issues. The timing and initiative of this are obvious - it's a critical junction to start to solve the problem or suffer attrition. Personally I'm hoping this is a solid major step towards solving the problem (and I'm sure many others are as well). Staying positive and feeling this out, let's see how impactful it really is, because honestly, the other adjustments to tighten up this problem area have appeared to be baby steps at best and not the epic smack down advances I think we've all been hoping for. I'm sure internally the ante and priority on this has risen drastically in the past few days/weeks.

I routinely break chem lights and flares, also lighting gas lamps and stoves and such. I leave a trail of terror behind me... to be honest I don't know why. Maybe it's something like when a dog pees to mark it's territory, maybe it's the amusement I'm trying to give others of letting them know someone was recently there. Maybe it's just the final acts of a survivor in Chenarus trying to provide fleeting evidence of their existence...

Yeah, you really shouldn't be doing that. It's beyond taboo.
