Do you have an NVidia card? They have the shadowplay feature that's a part of the NVidia suite that may do the trick for you. It's the one I use, but I have it only capturing the last 5 minutes and make saves when really interesting things happen. It doesn't seem to slow my system down. There's a ton of other options though.

Mostly because the game is not finished yet. The animals are all also undergoing changes in regards to AI and what they look like via the new renderer. A few months back we had no animals and hunting didn't exist, and when I started rabbits were about the only animal I could find and you couldn't shoot or interact with them, all they were good for was reportedly being responsible for random zombie noises as if the game had tourette's syndrome. Heck, it's only be maybe 3-4 months where you could skin/carve them and use/eat them. It's a work in progress, be patient.

If he helps - I have an i5, 16 Gb Ram, and a 650 TI - I let NVidia choose the best settings and then tweaked a little. I also didn't modify any of the DayZ configs or startup parameters (other than nosplash and one other that only helps you load faster) and I get pretty good fps.

If something is great, everyone will enjoy it, but few will spend time talking about it. If something is bad, people stew about it and complain, and it builds up. We're wired for negative feedback (stop the bad) and not positive feedback (continue the good). That's why posts like this are rare gems, so rare if it were an in game item I'd have to attempt to kill you on sight and take it from you!

I've got a copy of Windows Millenium kicking around, and I think I've got CD's for 98 and 95 too! But I don't expect them to run DayZ. The bottom line is that EOL for OS's *seem* like they come faster and faster, when in reality roughly the same amount of time is passing between major versions. However, we get comfortable with what's supported and works well (I'm on Win7 for example rather than 8), but I know darn well EOL is coming for 7 sooner than later and I've got to keep an eye towards 8 and more likely 10. Let XP go sir... like Spock, it lived long and prospered, but it's been laid to rest. Boldly go to a newer supported OS.

I know this is in the patch notes, but after seeing it first hand, it's hilarious. I laughed even harder while watching a twitch stream last night where they thought someone was driving a truck off in the distance doing donuts in a field... turned out it was just a cow doing donuts in a field. There's a balance between annoying and amusing bugs, and this one is definitely amusing. I'm trying to remember bugs that were also amusing (and not annoying). A list I can think off the top of my head: That gun arming disarming animation loop. Looks like he's got flees or jerking his arm off or something! The "skating on backpack while running" animation issue. I think this was fixed around summer 2014. The bandaging animation used to be used for a lot of things... such as force feeding.There's others, I'm curious which everyone's favorites have been.

I've had this happen to the police station - for a while I thought the police stations were all bugged. In reality a few of my files were out of sync (no idea how/why????). I went into steam and did the verify local files thing and it found differences and downloaded what I needed. Started the game up fresh and it totally solved my problem. Maybe you're running into something similar?

If you go into steam you should be able to verify your local copy, that should pick up the mismatch and download the latest if it doesn't automatically do it. I know sometimes this happens to me if I've left DayZ open and running overnight or something at the server select or login screen. Good luck survivor.

But yeah, other than the storage vest with its very useful 10 slots, it's not really worth the effort unless you are playing a natural survival\wilderness hunter type. And no, not waterproof either. This guy is my new hero... :beans: :beans: :beans:
