I find boars in the most random places - sometimes just wandering through the woods.

Beans that are already opened... could be a lifesaver. Kinda like how guns have ammo sometimes (and sometimes not).

Questions, Comments and Concerns regarding Survivor GameZ
Death By Crowbar replied to HugoStiglitz (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I dunno, but I'm rooting for whatever team Anthony Kongphan or Sacriel are on, those guys are beasts. -
The pitchfork, the ultimate weapon for the zombie apocalypse enthusiast

This had me laughing hard... I assume you mean punching? Fisting zombies would be... twisted. -
Please focus on bugs for a while
Death By Crowbar replied to Pandachow's topic in General Discussion
There are many bugs that don't make sense to even address as various systems are being written or re-worked. Unfortunately that's what an Alpha really is - it's playable, but nowhere near complete yet. Hang in there, and report and/or vote up bugs in the feedback tracker - anyone participating in an early access alpha should consider this a responsibility. -
The pitchfork, the ultimate weapon for the zombie apocalypse enthusiast
Death By Crowbar replied to sachad's topic in General Discussion
This doesn't work for me, the I end up with the problem where no matter where I am in the house the zed is able to hit me, as if my entire hitbox is the house. I only use houses with zombies if I'm going to make a go at locking them inside... -
Developers communicating with players
Death By Crowbar replied to MadWookie's topic in General Discussion
You think that's good, I see show up on Twitch streams to watch things happen live, he responds on Twitter, etc. He's not the only one either. -

Public hive server owners can't purge persistence files anymore, okay. But what about this?
Death By Crowbar replied to yazar8's topic in General Discussion
Pick reliable, popular public servers that have been around a while and not some fly by night unknown who may not be around tomorrow for your camps? The one time I started with tents and tried creating a stash that server disappeared for good a week later. I've experienced the very thing you're talking about. -
I could see some people working in tandem to gather traps, die, and then show up where the spawn point is and put a trap there. That's totally evil, but I could totally see people doing it.

I almost always leave a note on my body. I'll either write an odd twisted story, or curse whoever finds it blaming them for my death, or write a song quote. I nearly always sign it "- Death By Crowbar". Ever since cannibalism I've done a few that are simply , "Eat me. -Death By Crowbar"

What's the process to disarm them (or can you)?
-
It's like that old joke, "If you woke up in the cool morning dew, lying on the ground, in the middle of the woods, with your pants around your ankles, and vaseline all over your butt, would you tell anyone?" When someone says, "No", you deliver the punch line - "Great, wanna go camping?"

This... has possibilities. I've not found either yet. How long do landmines and bear traps take to set?

I think for the current population limits the map size is just fine. The issue as I see it is there are two types of players - survivor explorers who use large portions of the map and like to gear up and stay that way, then there are your coastal zerglings who spend more time as bambis waging war on each other in Elektro. I think for the prior a bigger map is desirable, as once you see some of the interesting locations once (especially the remote ones) there's not much return value. For the latter, the map size doesn't really matter - heck, they could be on dm_sniper in HL2 or The Edge in Quake 2 and be happy so long as they can find someone to attack or snipe at.

Real Life Skills You've Learned from DayZ
Death By Crowbar replied to Tatanko's topic in General Discussion
What have I learned? You can't trust anyone. Anyone who stops and stares at you for more than 5 seconds without saying anything is going to attack you. Zombies have magical powers and can walk through things. Stairs are dangerous, when you walk on them you might just die. Swords don't exist. Yes, I see people carrying them, but if they claim to have looted them from a castle they're full of crap. I now tear up my tshirts because they're more useful for bandaging myself, making splints, or making fire. My wife hates this. It's ok to steal from any house you can enter, or steal any vehicle you find that's working and has keys. I've learned I can't actually walk around and see myself in 3rd person and it upsets me because sometimes I want to peek around corners. I purchased a sledge hammer the other night, going to use it next time I need to open tuna or canned peaches at home. I've learned I can't walk up to someone and force feed them from behind. I tried that with my 4 year old who was refusing to eat dinner and it didn't work, the food just fell on the floor - he doesn't have a mouth on the back of his head apparently. When I golf now I stick to the tree line so I don't get seen or shot. Diving into bushes IRL doesn't really work to conceal oneself so well, neither does pine trees. Pine trees hurt and make me all sticky too. I'm yet to find enough beer in game to throw up. I'm not sure it's possible. I've learned that the first thing I should do is throw away any flashlight I have... and any battery too. The other night my wife threw me a flashlight and I immediately threw it out. She was not amused. -
This might help: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224056-so-the-way-i-read-it-was-that-the-devs-are-going-back-to-054-loot-system/?p=2252524

So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
Death By Crowbar replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If people would stop looting everything and just die of starvation like a man there'd be no problems... ... and plenty of extra food for me! -
I've waited for up to 20 minutes twice, both times I simply ended up hitting Respawn. ... after steaking out, face palming, taking a leak, and breaking random things.

I think the jab or joke is that an overwhelming number of players don't get much past spawning near Elektro and running in naked, finding the first piece of clothing or weapon they can, and then mercilessly attack the first person they see, and usually die in the process. Hicks seemed to be frowning upon the bambi zerg movement and pushing towards an experience that's more towards what's intended. Personally as amusing as they are I blame a lot of this on the streamers - people hop on Twitch and watch some of them literally wage war on Elektro, Kamy, and Berezino in this fashion but not everyone is Anthony Kongphan, most simply die in the process and it deteriorates the game experience in those areas. It's kinda like never leaving level 1 island in a MMORPG. I suppose the good news is that as features are implemented and refined it should get better, but basically what Hicks was hinting at is that there should be a real decision around and real consequences for attacking someone, becoming a bambi again or recovering from injury shouldn't have as easy roads back to full gear as is available today. I sorta support that, or at least I support things that help alleviate the bambi zerg in those 3 towns.

What is your play style and goals?
Death By Crowbar replied to CJFlint's topic in General Discussion
Every day that I log off without shooting someone... ... I kinda wish I had. :) Every day that I log off after killing some people... ... I kinda wish I hadn't. :( Survival is an emotional roller coaster. If only I could force myself into playing as if this was purely straight forward PVP, but I'm not wired that way. -
I actually thought Hicks' snark on this was hilarious. If I was in the same room I would've high fived him and been like, "Good one!"
-
This will probably get more attention on patch day when noone can log in and everyone is bored. Hang in there.
