    Get off the coast, ASAP. Also as a new spawn it usually helps to start in a low population server. Maybe that's considered cheating or whatever but honestly I don't have time to run half way across the map only to die of starvation. Usually I'll make one quick loot run across a low population server, then jump into a near full server. works well, best of both worlds IMO.
