Until they implement private hives that save the world in the private database and that world only lives inside that server, this is not feasible. On one hand the thought of losing, even, my nice little campsite with a tent and fireplace each time a server gets reset takes away all the fun of it. On the other hand, world related stuff have to be stored in a per server basis or you run the risk of conflicting with what others are already doing on other servers. If right now the public hive allows people to completely gear up and then spread mayhem on more populated servers, just imagine what could happen if people could move entire base camps =). Not possible. Still, I'm looking forward for this kind of features sooner than later.

You beat me to it. I thought of it the other day and even my girlfriend thought it was funny to be able to place an ammo box or any 4 slot item on the jacket/trousers/vest. I think that this is a great idea for a game that aims to be as painfully realistic as it can be. I think the hardcore brigade is going to love this. You got my beans.

Haha, having children would be sick. If I find it difficult to decide whether to shoot someone wielding a ranged weapon right now, I think it would more difficult if I see a child with a weapon. Things could get really dark.

So far you get kos because the game is in alpha and people playing don't get enough of a challenge against environment. Once it's finished, and zombies swarm you from behind a barn or hypothermia becomes a serious issue, you will see how people starts helping each other more often. I'm not against PvE, it sounds like it could work for some people without breaking the game like many here are afraid of, but your argument is starting to get old Kerr. I have bad news, you chose the wrong game buddy. I understand you, but still, this is not the kind of game you should be playing right now. In fact, when I want to shoot everything that moves, I quit DayZ and fire up Battlefield 3 or something similar. If I shoot people in DayZ is because everybody's on edge and everybody kills on sight.

I haven't played the mod version. But friends who have, told me that you can easily die of hypothermia at night, specially if you got wet. If that's true, that alone could make playing this game PvE only a nice but relaxed challenge. I also believe that the amount of zombies in the mod can get dangerous if you get mobbed while looting towns. I would like to add that I believe, like Rudette said, right now the KoS is just an issue because the lack of challenge from environmental factors. I want to believe that when the game is near completion, people is going to band together against the environment in a natural way. Right now it's too soon to judge if a PvE only option is really useful.

If the item is in the hands and you got shot in the leg where the item was stored the item should not get ruined, they will surely fix that in time. Still, for a game that is aiming for realism, the fact that you can hear people eating or drinking a room or a floor away is not very realistic. So, the game is what it is at the moment and we should wait until it's finished to decide if it's realism what it pretends or just annoy the players.

Right now PvE is absurd, I agree. Still, I don't understand why does it offend people that another group of people doesn't care about the "hard core" experience side of the game and wants to play it in a more relaxed and creative way (in the future, when the game is finished and Dean Hall is a millionaire). There's a lot of people out there who just need games to play and not to experience a whole lot of stuff that you could easily go out the door and experience first hand (the human interaction part that you mention I mean). I don't care why people would want to play this game the hardcore way or the easy way (it's a game after all and nothing more), I'm just surprised that it is being considered such a serious issue.

I would like to have this at some point. Honestly, this type of game's possibilities are endless, but I certainly would like to be able to improvise camps.

I don't worry about a thing regarding video games. But thanks for agreeing with me. It's nice to read something from someone that knows what he's talking about instead of reading infantile opinions that shout intolerance. I don't know why this creates such a fuzz when it's clear that suggesting PvE won't distract the developers from the main goal. And if I get PvE or not, I don't care. I'm not against it or in favor, I'm just against intolerance and childish arguments.

The developers are going to focus on what's more important for the game, they are professionals after all. Rest assured they will give you the best PvP experience they can. So don't worry about that. Adding a "no pvp fire" option shouldn't be much of a hassle, I've also programmed gameplay for several mods, so I know. Once again, intolerance. If you like the full "hardcore, have something to prove" package, you will get it (and I'm going to certainly enjoy playing it too). But, how does it affect you that some people could get together to play happy campfire with DayZ? After all, if including a pve only variable is going to attract more buyers, it's good for the business. You get to play the game the way you want it and other people get to play it the way they want it.

Honestly, the amount of intolerance and narrow minded people on the forum (which is not uncommon on the internet) surprises me. What's the deal if somebody wants to rent a server and set it to PvE, just because that's how they like to play it? The game is a sandbox, and people can and should play it the way the want to play it. And even if it's a valid point that tension generated by the possibility of other players killing you just because why the f not is what makes the game what it is, it is still just a game. If somebody that likes it "hardcore" (give me a minute I'm trying to wipe my tears of laughter now) feels offended because some people might enjoy some simple and relaxed PvE gameplay (which could, honestly, be fun in some way, with hunting, camping, trying stuff out), that somebody should have his head checked urgently, because it's none of their business how the rest of the world enjoys playing their games. Again, if Dean Hall doesn't want to add a "no friendly fire" option to the game, is fine by me. But I reckon I could take some time off from my everyday life and enjoy some "softcore" gameplay. If I have something to prove to myself it won't be on a video game.

I know the game is in Alpha stages and the priority is to get the gameplay/server right, not cute aesthetic features. But, as a 3d artist I would love to have the chance to get custom faces in the game per avatar (mine and my friend's faces). But then again, I've also worked on game code and databases, and the amount of bandwidth that custom faces would require would just kill the servers. We don't lose anything by daydreaming though =).
