    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

Suggesting they remove third person is "forcing people to play first person". That it is a vocal minority is just a fact. The reason given for this whole debate to continue even though there is already a hive dedicated to 1PP is "not enough players". That means minority. And boy is it a vocal one. The forums bit is that representatives here from your community like to throw around phrases like "DayCare" and "Care Bear" and "Exploiters" and suggest that their way of playing is superior to all other ways of playing and suggest or demand the removal of 3PP entirely. This coming from someone who would have been just fine with this game only having first person and who is generally annoyed at having to switch between the two on normal servers.
  2. Sure, any gun. I can't think of any gun (with the exception of say collector guns) that you wouldn't be able to find legally from a gun store or illegally from an arms dealer.
  3. That makes a lot of sense as it isn't good practice to store magazines fully loaded, messes up the springs.
  4. I have the solution to the whole argument. Throw a gun store in every significant town and a couple of black market basements in the larger cities and call it a day. You can justify any gun spawn between the two and just adjust the spawn rate according to relative rarity.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

Well, the thing is, I'm on your side as far as wanting to play first person. The problem I have is just the idea of forcing people into it. As for the justification bit, you were being pretty derisive to 3PP players and suggesting that they needed to convince you as to why they want to play that way. I don't think it is necessary to do that. I don't know why we'd need to PM, the point of a forum is to post where others can read. I think there is value in calling the push for first person only, what it is. A vocal minority trying to hijack the majority. I'd suggest the hard core players start finding a way to draw players that is effective, because right now, I can't see why anyone would go anywhere near hard core based on the opinions and comments coming from the players of that hive. They did. On a hive. Where you get to sit alone.

    Blast from the past

So does playing a sudden loud sound in a horror movie after a quiet and suspenseful moment. It is still cheap.
  7. Doubtful. I think you underestimate just how much ammo exists in the world. If that many rounds were fired, there wouldn't be any zombies left.

So, in other words, the North Korean approach applied to game development? I'm not sure what makes you think that anyone needs to justify their preferences to you.

There are people here that won't be happy until we are all naked, covered in feces, and hitting each other with rocks for the one can of beans that spawns every week. Then someone will say "respawning beans is unrealistic".
  10. Considering the massive and sudden depopulation and the sheer amount of ammunition in circulation, I don't think ammunition would be a problem for a very long time. Sure, you have to find it, but considering how often I actually have to shoot in this game, the ammunition I currently have in real life would take me through to old age.

In life, I've generally found that people crying for silly reasons, tend to find more silly reasons to cry.

I disagree that it is important because there is a whole hive dedicated to providing a place to remove this facet entirely. That should be sufficient for the foreseeable future. Now get me my persistent storage, base building, and vehicles! Or at the very least, zombie collision, working stairs and ladders and player inventory persistence.

    Blast from the past

That all sounds great, with the exception of the "shaking screen". I'd rather experience the emotions than watch a character experience the emotions. It is a pretty big fail if a game need to have your character simulate fear because the game itself can't inspire it in the player.
  14. Valadain

    You keep using that word,

I hate to inform you, but it is you that doesn't understand the term rubber banding. Rubber banding is exactly what you just described. Where your screen shows you way ahead, then the server kicks in and says "hold it, you aren't where you should be" and you "rubber band" back to the last place the server knew you to be.

Unless it works like crap and people vanish around partially obscuring things like stairs or windows or de-sync causes people to pop in and out of existence in front of you or hackers use it to screw us all over. I'll be honest, while this is early alpha and I am very forgiving, knowing what I signed up for on buying it, there's a lot wrong with this game that needs to be worked on. Third person is about the last thing on that list.

So basically, you are lonely because nobody wants to play the way you want to play, so you want to force them to play the way you want to play? Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer first person. The only reason I'm not on the hardcore servers is because I read the forums, so I don't have an overall positive perception of those playing on hardcore servers. I also wouldn't care if they implemented a solid and perfectly working system as described. I have my doubts that it is possible. I think we'd get a lot more strangeness with people popping in and out of existence near partially obscuring things, like stairs or half walls. I also fear that it would impact first person mode, so there would be no option to have good game-play. But that said, I also don't give a damn if they leave it the way it is and focus on the dozens of other things I want more than this.

The problem is, that it isn't a bug or an exploit. It is how the system works and has worked as designed in Arma. You and many others don't like it, I get that, but to deal with this they put in an entire hive to facilitate those players. I'm not saying they won't change this functionality, but it is wrong to call it a bug or an exploit. The only exploit in 3rd person is leaning close to a wall and getting the camera to go through that wall.

I agree with the overall sentiment, but have you considered that what you believe defines DayZ may not be what others believe defines DayZ? The thing that, in your eyes, would turn DayZ into another shooter, may not be the thing that someone else here or even the community at large believes will turn it into another shooter.

Just as you said, you know that people can do it, so you adjust accordingly. That you choose to restrict yourself on your perspective is your choice. If you are good, you should fairly well be able to compensate, but may get unlucky from time to time. You also have the choice to play on servers specifically set to only support first person. As for the "I wish there was only first person servers", I can't really understand that wish. Why would you take issue with people doing something on an entirely different server off somewhere that doesn't impact your server? (heck, if you play hardcore, it is a different hive entirely).

    The most intense thing ever.

There's a lot of grey area here where people try to pretend is black and white. Personally, I give the OP the benefit of the doubt on whether he felt he had no choice. People are getting too hung up on "the right way to play". There is no right way to play. There is playing the game well, which means surviving, which means mitigating risks. There is playing the game to have fun, which may mean surviving or may mean taking risks for amusement. Here's an example that happened in my own game play. -You roll up on the NEAF, approaching correctly so that you walk up behind the snipers. On the hill you see feet sticking out of a tree ahead of you from a prone sniper. You are alone, have no handcuffs, but you do have an SKS with plenty of ammo. The sniper obviously doesn't know you are there. For survival, I only saw two options. Kill him or walk away. I wouldn't bother robbing in that situation as there is nobody to watch the player during my visit and no way to detain him long enough to do my business at the airport. So, a robbery means leaving anyway. Killing the guy would have let me check out the airport in relative safety, assuming he didn't have a friend down there. Then the "moral" questions. Was he a sniper just randomly killing people? Was he watching out for his friend in the airport? Well, robbing him would just open the threat from his friend. Killing him if he was watching out for his friend may not be cool, but if he is just sniping people, killing him would be good... No way to find out safely. I can't ask him and trust his answer without putting myself at serious risk. Basically, the situations aren't clean. They aren't "this is right and this is wrong". That guy sitting on the hill with a sniper rifle may be killing players, he may be killing other snipers, he may be watching out for his friend, or he might have just killed a sniper and was checking the area to see if the sniper had a friend. There is no way to know, you just have to guess and act accordingly.
  21. You are not renting a private server, you are renting a public hive server as that is all that is available at the moment. So you have to follow the public hive rules. They aren't hurting themselves because they don't want you to play on their servers. They want to farm loot and head out to other public hive servers to play. That is why there are rules.
  22. How about this, we implement the Radio Flyer wagon. You can put all the extra guns you need to carry everywhere you go into your little red wagon and you just have to wheel it behind you.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

No, you just don't approach things in a direct line and particularly when approaching a likely ambush spot. If this were real life, given time, an ambusher could easily make themselves damn near impossible to see. Think of it like this.
  24. I think you missed the point of my post. I don't have a problem with carrying a gun and having one on your back. I wouldn't even mind a long animation that swaps the gun on your back and in your hand. What I take issue with is just that extra slot on the back. It is there just to avoid having to build "holsters" for melee weapons. Not as a potential slot to put another rifle.

Players, zombies, and items becoming visible or invisible is a big freaking deal. I wouldn't rank it along with other things that can be added without potentially ruining the fundamentals of the game. Particularly when you can just play 1pp mode only and be fine.
