    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

I do probably need to mess with my FOV, I've tanked the head bob to nil, but it is still annoyingly there. I get fine FPS, I put money into my rig. Lighting isn't an issue. I've taken out all but one bulb from the chandelier in this room and it still burns with the light of a thousand suns.

    Mid-Length AR-15 [Torchia Reddit]

I won't exhibit the prejudices, because my take on the spawn rates is really a "concession" to other players. Personally, I don't think there is a huge advantage to fully-automatic weapons over semi-automatic weapons given a finite inventory and proper tactics. Fully auto has some actual killing advantage in close-quarters combat, but at range, it is primarily for suppressing fire. Only really useful if you are employing proper squad tactics.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

I've watched both sides. No, the vitriol is not equal by any means. As for the other, I'm not worried about getting shot, that is part of the game. I just had people I was playing with on regular, have an established character. Regardless, I've already been playing on a hardcore server, but not spent much time yet. Got kicked for a server reset, then by lag from the one I was on. Still getting used to the annoying head-bob, even at the lowest setting. My only real complaint of 1PP.

Yes, that is an exploit. Seeing over walls or around corners with it, though, is how it works.

    Perks/skills/professions/stats

I prefer to learn things myself, rather than my character learning things. Like learning basic Cyrilic to know where the heck I am. Learning which way to approach a town that brings you up behind the snipers. Learning to escape being pinned down and flank an enemy. Learning how to repair a car or fly a chopper. Character skills are useful where you don't want to build in-depth and complex game mechanics or where the technology fails to present a fun way to interface skillfully with the environment. I think DayZ can fairly well avoid all of this to a much better effect.

    Kick Dead Bodies!

"Hey guys, loot all of the gear I just ruined by tossing it off of a high tower." The only real problem I have with this is that they've added plenty enough things in the game to appease the sociopaths. We need some stuff for everyone else to do.

    Mid-Length AR-15 [Torchia Reddit]

You can own an automatic weapon in the states legally, but the paperwork, requirements, and cost is so prohibitive, that it is extremely rare. So in my mind, that creates the only real distinction. Spawn frequency. And that is really the intention of the designation. To control spawn frequency. That said, I agree with you primarily because people think the Blaze is civilian and I bet any AR I post would be considered military, which is completely wrong as the AR is far more common here than the Blaze by orders of magnitude. Here's a good example, the mini 14, generally considered a ranch rifle, very civilian. This is the tactical version, stock. Fill up all those rails with standard attachments and it will look as military as any military gun. It just won't fire multiple shots with one trigger pull. That is all.

That would be because..... it isn't cheating. It is how the mechanic works and is intended to work. You don't like it. I don't like it. But it isn't cheating. I'm really getting tired of this being the phrase of choice for anyone that doesn't like how another person plays. KoS is cheating. TeamSpeak is cheating. Persistent storage is cheating. Going back to your corpse is cheating. Using third person perspective is cheating. Logging out in a building is cheating. It gets old.

That only works if I weren't on the side of those making comments until they made the comments. You need to find the threads and read through. It is pretty awful.

    Fireworks and Flare gun

Flare guns don't kill people. But it would be interesting to have them be one-hit-screw-the-hell-out-of-your-gear guns. Would make a good bandit-killing-new-spawns deterrent. Start people with a flare gun with one shot.

The Uzi, come on, you know you want it

Yeah, I think for .45, the Thompson or old grease guns will be the most common. I think H&K makes a few models, not sure that it is very standard otherwise. 9mm makes for better control, which is pretty key on such weapons.

    Mid-Length AR-15 [Torchia Reddit]

I agree. There are also some semi-automatic bull-pup style rifles that use hand-gun ammunition that could be thrown in to keep the spawn rate of full autos down. Personally, for ammo conservation, I like semi-autos and would like to see more of them.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

I think you missed the point, that many of the posts here by the 1PP only crowd here don't motivate me to want to play on the same server as them. I've actually been wanting to transition to hardcore as I like 1PP better, but the constant stream of vitriol and demeaning posts has made me not want to go anywhere near a hardcore server.

First, the AR should take any attachment. They really are no different than an M4. Second, I wouldn't mind if they replaced the M4 with the AR, put the accuracy to something realistic, and left the AK (proper variant, don't get caught up on the shortened name) as the automatic of choice. Third, any AR with any attachment, any stock, any scope, any furniture at all is a civilian rifle. The difference between a civilian rifle and a military rifle is selective fire. Period. My AR exceeds military specifications. That isn't uncommon with civilian rifles. Shooting a target or an animal actually requires more precision than an enemy soldier and the civilian market tends to cause more quality and feature competition than rather uncontested military bulk contracts.

Yeah, though aside from you, who can discuss this calmly and rationally, I'm not sure that is a great selling point. Bringing hardcore players to regular...

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

True, but it isn't quite as game-breaking as everyone tries to make it seem. In the real world, there are plenty of things I could do that I can't do in the game, that would make it harder for you to spot me if I was trying to ambush you. Granted, not with a nice sweeping view of stuff around me, but I could cover myself, crouch down low so I'm barely visible. I could poke a hole in a wall to look out while being obscured. Still, I guess we'll see what is going to happen. I didn't see this on the road map, so I'm guessing it is either not considered a major feature for mention or not a priority.

I the game doing it on purpose?

Yep, it is communicating with other players on steam to set up a meeting spot, information your character wouldn't have.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

That would be great if it is true, but somehow, I think it would be in the game already if it were.
  19. I think it has already been fairly well covered. The public hive is a set of linked servers that all have the same meta-game set of rules, to which all server admins must adhere. Basically, open and unrestricted game play. Moderation only for a common list of specific abuses. Once private servers are available, I expect that they will allow people to make a different set of meta-rules, such as RP conduct, rules on PvP, or even "invite only clubs". For right now, if you want to RP, you'll need to incorporate the killers into your RP.

It has nothing to do with faith in the development team. I've yet to see a fast-paced real-time multiplayer game implement such logic. I've seen some turn-based games do this (XCom, that game with the little green soldiers, the isometric fallouts), but they don't have to deal with constantly updating relative positions as only one object is moving at a time and generally at a fairly slow pace. Some things are a technical nightmare that the most experienced developers can't solve in a reasonable time-frame. That doesn't mean bad developers. A good developer will find a reasonable path, like perhaps spawning a second hive that disables the third person point of view.
  21. I'm curious if that applies to private servers or only public hive servers? It will pretty heavily restrict mod development if it applies to private servers as well. Just as the current SA team needs to mess around with spawn rates to test features, so will mod developers. Not to mention, changes in spawn dynamics may be entirely necessary for particular mods. If new items are added into the game, how do you set them to spawn? If items are modified towards another use, how do you tweak their spawn rate appropriately?

What Mods do you want in the SA

White listing already exists, you just can't use it until private servers are allowable. I agree on the maps. I like Chernarus, but any map is going to get stale after a while.

    Realistic guns.

    Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

My primary concern is not turning a corner and spotting a zombie suddenly. It is turning a corner, walking down a ways, then getting popped in the back by a zombie that was standing there but just rendered. We'll see what the guaranteed messaging system brings, but synchronizing multiple clients and a server has been the bane of quick-paced multiplayer games since they started. If they don't get it to a very reliable system, where the server can determine relative positions and determine visibility extremely quickly and accurately. And also take into account transparent objects and objects with partial obstruction, this whole argument is moot as the solution will not work. It cannot be client side, or you'll just be handing superpowers to hackers. So, this is why I say, it need to be perfect, pretty well at the time of putting it in the code. Based on my many years in development, my "scope alarm" is ringing off the hook on this one. It is a pretty reliable alarm that has saved me a hell of a lot of frustration over the years. This simply means, that if it doesn't slide in easily, it will probably be a black-hole of development that requires patch after patch just to get to a state of reasonably playable, but will probably always be bugged.

I the game doing it on purpose?

Realism is not served, so this just becomes a pointless mechanic that holds no value other than annoyance. The person can still go to their group made base and pick up the items that their friends tagged to keep from despawning. There really isn't a middle ground here. This game is simply not perma-death, no matter what everyone wants to believe. It isn't possible in a multiplayer game with a persistent world. In a single player game you can just full-on delete everything about the world and regenerate the world. In a multiplayer direct connection style game, you can kick the player and not let them back in until the game concludes (and deletes and rebuilds anew). In a persistent multiplayer game, the world stays, the stuff they do stays, the other players stay. You can't kick people out as it would pretty well have to be forever. So any sense of "new life" will have to be RP and likely will be a vastly small minority of players who are willing to give up all ties to their friends on death until they happen to re-run into them again as a new spawn.
