Not, they would appear regardless of 3rd or 1st person perspective. The whole idea is that certain things just won't be there at all until they are visible. Right now, those things are there, just obscured by things rendered in front of them. So if the delay is too much (or you know, the impossible happens and you have synch problems), your day may be ruined by an invisible player. Not to mention, transparent objects, objects that obscure but don't block vision like stairs or shelves. And how would it handle something like a gun being too close to a corner? Trees? Bushes? As I said, it needs to be dang near perfect or I wouldn't like it. I'd rather work around the wall peeking than have real FPS strategy go to hell because players may not pop in as you are sweeping a room.

Or you could... not hang out by the coast and try to interact with new spawns in an unsafe way? You really shouldn't be getting punched unless you are trying to hug the new spawns.
-
The game should make you panic, not your character. If my character just stops responding appropriately, it would jar me out of any sort of immersion. I'm generally against anything that takes control away from the player, aside from wounds. The goal is to immerse the player in the world, not create realistic characters that run around and interact with the environment separately from the player.

I don't much care either way. An advantage that everyone has isn't an advantage. But I also won't be upset to see something like this put in place. My only concern is that there are currently issues with synchronizing, so I'd hate to see this make things worse with people popping on an off your screen too slowly. 1PP people should be wary as well, as this works all the time, not just for 3pp. So things will be invisible for you as well when not in line of sight. And by that, I don't mean "you can't see through stuff". I mean they will actually be there and invisible until the game determines you "should" see them. In short: I'm fine with it as is, but I won't mind if this comes in so long as it works very, very well.

A .22 is almost all about shot placement. Put it in the right place and you are going to kill. I say mostly because if you put a round in a place where it can enter, but not exit, it is going to bounce around and ruin someone's day. Head and heart should be death, or at least close enough that you won't get up without serious medical attention. Assuming no protection on those areas.

You win this round Demoth....

whats the first thing ur gonna do after the patch ?

Hard to be happy when you know there will inevitably be dozens of posts along the lines of "The pattern on my 10/22 is distinctly not Russian so I hope everyone developing this game gets cancer and dies." -
I've been through quite a few of these threads and generally the 3pp players don't care if people want to play 1pp, but 1pp players care a whole hell of a lot whether people play 3pp or not. So far as to call the whole thing an exploit, crutch, pathetic, noobish....

So lamecore. I play only using a Hawkian blow-tube for controls, my eyes shut, my headphones reversed, and a knife on a piston that drives through my brain if I die.
-
It can, but I knew a guy who couldn't play any FPS (even perfectly even floating head ones) without Dramamine. It is just the perspective and the constant need to shift the screen around to see anything. I don't have that problem, but I am allergic to people with falsely superior attitudes, therefore I'm stuck on regular.

Woodchuck Pear Cider, it is the gateway beer. -
You can, it is just a slow process as it would be in reality (actually a little faster now than it would be). Right click your gun, empty the rounds. Take your stack and load it back in. Reloaded. In reality, loading a Mosin without a clip is an annoying slower process. You have to push the rounds in one by one and many Mosins have parts that aren't as smooth as they should be, which catch the rounds as you try to push them in, so you have to play with it a bit on each round to get them in.

Yeah, I think after reading all of this, even though first person is my preference, I'll stick to regular. Quality of player reasons.
-
Yeah, I know you can do that for sure, I accidentally do it half the time I'm trying to open one of the fake doors.
-
Am I insane? I thought you could reload with R if you have the right equipment (magazine, stripper clip, speed loader, or snap clip).
-
It isn't really "griefing". There shouldn't really be any mechanic-based repercussions either. The real problem is just that you can't really identify a player specifically. If there were a better way to recognize a character, you could pass the word around. Unfortunately, the character models aren't there yet and the random changes in models on respawn makes it even more difficult.

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Valadain replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks. I'm unfamiliar with acronyms... Seriously though, I'm trying to delve into the subtleties. For instance, I am clearing a building at the airport. I line up with the wall, swing around wide on the door and spot someone inside with a gun. Having no backup or handcuffs, I pop him in the head as there is no other way to ensure he isn't a risk for the duration of my stay. Am I a KoS? What if I open my mic and say "I'm shooting you now"? What if I scream into the mic "Get down on the ground and drop your weapon!", he does, I make some show out of robbing him, then kill him because there really isn't any other option as he could just walk to another building and pick up another gun? -
I generally prefer first person, but I've been playing on regular servers due to other people who play. The funny thing is that I don't tend to wall-peek. I know people think it is extremely advantageous, but I tend to find that using general tactics works much better. Slice the pie with your gun drawn and it seems to me that you'll get the drop on another player much easier than peeking around a wall and over-thinking your move. The only problem with this is that it doesn't lend itself to "interaction". That is, it is much better to train yourself to pull that trigger when an armed player passes your cross-hairs.
-
First, I like the idea of a more complicated medical system. That said, the OP is looking a bit too deeply here. Right now, you bleed when you are hit hard enough to cause a major wound that requires bandaging to fix. That is, you aren't bleeding out from minor cuts. Minor cuts don't give you the bleeding status.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone actually defined KoS? -Is it only people who kill fresh spawns? -Is it people who kill without interacting always? -Is it people who kill without interacting for non "in-game" reasons? -Is it people who ever kill without interaction? -Is it people who kill without being shot at first, even with interaction? -
Really depends on the "lore". Seems to me that we are the survivors, so we would be the looters, not some magical invisible npc looting army that made off with the goods.

Which SDLC model do DayZ devs use?
Valadain replied to SentencedToBurn's topic in General Discussion
I would be rather surprised if it weren't some flavor of Agile. -
No worries, you are far more fluent in my language than I am in yours. So while I'm happy to inform, it doesn't bother me if you use the wrong word. I had a friend from the middle east that often confused "alligator" and "gladiator". That made for quite a bit more confusion than "yarn" and "thread".

Yarn is thick and only really used to repair very particular clothing such as sweaters. Thread is much smaller and generally used to repair any modern clothing.
