Wasn't there a bug where you could duplicate splints to infinity? There you go. But it looks funny anyways. Edit: Got ninja'ed

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
DaMaakus replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
So the bushes spawn berries based on a percentage chance with every "use" of the bush? So they can't "run out" of berries (either by being lootet before or being flagged as "already used" by the player? -
Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
DaMaakus replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Played the experimental for a bit. Things to note: - Picking berries works. But finding 4 berries in over 30 bushes seem a bit low. It doesn't help either, when the the found berries are so less of nutriton. Both of these things (hard to find and no nutritional value) make them useless and not worth the time for searching them. (Why does the animation take so long and the charakter is stuffing things in his pants when he didn't find anything) - Saw the new police station and small hospital. They look nice. - Loot on top of closets can't be taken sometimes, not by clicking or using TAB (but this was in earlier versions too, I think) - Spawning being hungry is still stupid. (Let it be thirsty again or at least hungry and thirsty, if the whole "washed uppon the shore" thing ist still the fluff on this) - Some displacement of objects occured. A normal house where the floor was gone in one part, with the soil as ground. A small batch of bulidings near Krasnostav (in the east, where you can find a well) had a bench blocking the entrance door into the "pub" building. Also, starting the servers more often couldn't be that bad. Can't find a zombie (expect for one, sunken in the ground in the Berenzino police station) and couldn't find any useful loot (spawned in Berenzino, ran up to Krasnostov and the absolutley empty airfield, then proceded to go north and then west. The whole run I only found a fire extinguisher, a cooking pot, a hard hat and a cap. In some garages up in the north I found a pipe wrench and then died of starvation. Not even rotten fruit could be found.) -
Good question. I read somewhere, that the next transition from experimental to stable is scheduled within the next few weeks (because of the drastic changes in content, I guess this is regarding the new medical system, including the pulse), but it doesn't seem like it goes to stable next week. So, doesn't seem like you will use this feature soon if you don't go on experimentel servers. Edit: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175096-update-rev-036115535-experimental-branch/page-20 First post on the site. About the RIS guard. Can't really tell, couldn't find any yet and I prefer the Magpul guard. But keep it and try it if you find a flashlight. You can't use food when it is ruined, but you can use a ruined screwdriver, for example. Maybe the RIS guard doesn't get "flaged" as unusable if it is ruined.

Open letter/suggestion/request to the DEVS: DO NOT implement nudity/scat/piss.
DaMaakus replied to crazykage's topic in Suggestions
I support this. It is a game after all. It doesn't have to depict everything. Especially nothing that does mostly attract trolls and doesn't add much to the game play. I wouldn't mind nudity that much, there are already people running around in underwear, no big deal. But the other two things are mostly useless to implement. I see, that they might want to use it to simulate different kinds of illness. But in my opinion it would do more damage to immersion than it helps for it, when used by players. Also, if my Avatar had to take a dump with the ammounts of food you have to eat to not starve, I could fly out of this zombie apocalypse on a brown pillar. -
My Achievement Idea - But will achievements happen?
DaMaakus replied to TreadShadow's topic in Suggestions
Achievments are the curse of the modern gaming scene. Don't want. -
Experimental

It mostly didn't "fix" your problem. It would have been the same thing if you joined a hardcore server when your death-loop character was on regular servers. It would have created a new charakter and you could play with it on all hardcore servers, but as soon as you go back to regular, you would use your "broken" charakter again. Switching to experimental branch creates also a new charakter. So I guess your other char is still dead / bugged.

You're welcome! yogi92 and orlok gave you good advise. I don't have much to add. One thing to add: Playing alone ins fun. But if you play in a group, you have someone to talk to on those long runs and over all it makes more fun when there are buddys around. But this is my opinion and depends on your play-style. Another thing, regarding your forum posts: You can use the "Quote"-Function to answer other posts, make sure your courser is below the "brackets" of the text from the other person. If you want to edit what you have written, use the "Edit"-Button on your own posts, make your changes, then use "Save Edited Post" (or something similar) below the window, it should be the left "button". So you doesn't have to make three posts to say the same. ;)

Hi and welcome to DayZ. 1. Yes, the game runs on a dedicated server. You join one like others do, some things run on your PC some things run on the server but everything you have and happens to you is saved on so-called hives, databases where your charakter files lie. Maybe there will be private server in the future, but currently you are forbidden to make your server private or to kick people or to establish rules like PvE or similiar. Anti-Cheating is provided by a system called BattleEye. At least, this is how I understood things. 2. You are right. You die, you lose everything. But, your body should stay for 10 minutes in the place you died. So there is a chance you could run to it and loot your stuff back. In the future, there will be storage containers persistent on a server, where you can put stuff in and regear from there. And base building may have an appearence. The latter is far in the future. Be prepared for dying a lot. Dying from starvation/thirst, Infected, falling, getting shot, drwoning and so on. Mostly from getting shot on sight, especially in the spawn regions along the coast. There are many players who are paranoid, bored or simple assholes that will shoot you from a bush, 400 meters away, just for their amusement. It will happen. A lot. But try to enjoy the game, it is great so far and the feeling when you see another player for the first time is great. 3. If you log out, your charakter stays in game for thirty seconds, sitting on the floor. In this situation, you can easily be killed by Infected or other players. Make sure you find a save place to log out, like a forrest, bushes or such. Especially, look out for Infected. Their target aquiring is pretty broke at the moment, the can see you from hundreds of meters even with objects in the way. So wait for thirty seconds before logging out if one is following you from the last town you went trough and you didn't see him yet. If you change server, your charakter keeps everything you had. Only difference is: There are Hardcore, Regular and Experimentel Servers. You have one character on each of this server types. Hardcore has only 1st-Person-View, Regular has 1st- and 3rd-Person-View, Experimental are only accesable via setting your DayZ game to Experimental, but it is not necessary and would lead to far for now. Have fun and remember: This is an early alpha of the game. There are many features missing, there are many bugs and you will die to circumstances you can't have influence on. Just try to enjoy it or come back after a few weeks to find new content and a fastly growing game. :)

Started mostly the same thread a yesterday. I support this.

What about making a difference between a sprain ankle and a broken leg? Jumping from two to four meters could result in a sprain ankle, depending on how much you are carrying and what shoes you wear (maybe on what kind of ground you jump). I know, two to four meters sound much, but if you think about it: Who would jump that distance when you could lower yourself from the edge and fall the rest. To represent this, you could use the sprain ankle thing for those distances if you are kneeling / duck walking and slowly walking while going over the edge. If you are standing up and/or running when going over the edge, normal fall damage occurs. If you have such a sprain ankle, morphine and/or a splint could be enough to go on normally. But you are forbidden to run (double tap W) til the ankle is healed, see below) If you break a leg from a more serious thing, like falling from greater heights, getting shot and so on, it should be more of a problem. Morphine alone wouldn't help. At least you have to use a splint. (Morphine and a splint might let you walk for a short period of time, half a hour maybe) BUT, you should have the option to chop down a bush or tree and obtain sticks. Also, crutches would be nice. Finding some in hospitals or making them out of sticks, rags, duct tape and such things. If you use a crutch and a splint, you should be able to walk in a normal speed and even run / jog (the normal movement without double tapping W) for a short period. But you are forced to use one-handed items (no axes, rifles, baseball bats and such, just knifes, machetes, pistols, you name it). If you have obtained a healing status, a broken leg should be cured after a few hours if properly taken care of (namely the splint). 4 to 5 hrs maybe? Yes, I know, it isn't realistic but on the other hand, going from stuffed and energized to starving within a few hours isn't realisticly either. A sprain ankle could get away after an hour (healing status) or immidiatly if you use morphine or a splint. Could this be a thing?

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
DaMaakus replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Getting a heart attack from running is dumb. Starting to vomit like a fountain after running for a decent time would be more realistic. Vomiting is in, heavy breathing from long periods of running is in (so there is a trigger / measurement for long runs), combine it, ta da, running for hours isn't this good anymore. I can't think of a good reason to implement heart attacks in this game. Let them randomly happen or create avatars with random heart diseases would be ass. (Whats next? Charakters with bad eyes where you start with blurrieness from the beginning?) Heart attacks after gun shot wounds, like someone mentioned? Nice, more power to the griefers after implementing breaking bones from shots to the legs and arms and one shot kills body hits. I hope the circumstances in which you can get a heart attack wil be clarified soon. Right now, I don't have a good feeling about this. @To the guy who whines about "Eat all": What's the problem? It isn't gamebreaking. It is ridicoulus enough that you can hear the eating sounds over a greater distance then runnung sounds. Or rhings like beans creating any sound at all. Apparently, all food in Chernarus contains glas shards, screws and bones of small animals. Wheres the "realism" in that? Why shouldn't you down a can of beans in one action? It doesn't matter. Only thing is, the animation could be longer, in regards to the amount you take out with every action (Beans 4x longer, rice 10x longer, similar things for water containers). Extending the animation seems reasonable. -
Didn't someone posted a excerpt from a PC Gamer issue, where they interviewed Rocket and one thing was, that players could be able to build up laboratorys in the future to create new virus strains and such? Even though I find this idea pretty shitty, there might be some possibilitys for "player zombies" in the future.

Didn't get what you mean there, could you please explain? Sry for the big picture don't know how to "Spoiler" Regards JumpinJax Proper sniping means, not only simple bullet drop, but different bullet drop from different rifles, wind, maybe the rotation of the earth for reaaaaaaaaly long shots (last thing would be more a thing of bigger calibers). Probably needing to turn the "buttons" on the scope to zero the rifle in and compensate for wind. This would need a card with the settings for different ranges and different rifles. I think there was/is a mod for Arma2 which had such a system in. This makes long shots a bit more difficult instead of only having bullet drop. A Rangefinder would be worth its weight in gold if you find one. Also a wind meter (don't know the right word for it, it is a device to measure the windspeed). Anyways, I agree with AsOiX. Military grade sniper rifles should be very, very rare or kept out of the game entirely. BTW: To create a spoiler, simply put the picture between a [ spoiler ] and [ /spoiler], without the spaces between letters and brackets.

As soon as he is in a hut, he gets brave! ;) Someone should get a working walkie-talkie, go there and turn it on, switching channels in day time and at night. Maybe there will be something... Anyways, nice find!
-
It would be nice to include a proper system for shooting and especially sniping first. As far as I can see, it is just like BF now, just a bit of bullet drop, thats it. Plus some jittering and sway. Don't see much of a use for rangefinders or such.
-
I saw one not a week ago. But before and after, didn't see a single one. Couldn't try it either, cause I had no M4 at that time and just left it where it was (right corner in the back of a hangar).

You can find double mags in every barrack or other military building. They aren't that scarce. But they are some kind of buggy. They don't have reload faster, they don't reload at all. Just 60 bullets to spray and pray instead of two times 30 rounds and reloading faster between them. I couldn't tape them together either, so I guess it is not yet implemented. But I think, it will be in the future. It is too easy to not do it. Using the tape to handcuff somebody would be nice too. Needing a blade to uncuff them.

Hm, seems like you aren't the only one. A buddy of mine dropped into the water at a haven. He tried to get out, found no ladder and logged out. As he logged in, he found himself under water, unable to swim and could only crawl at the bottom of the sea for a few seconds, then he dies. After that, he can't click respawn (button is grey). Everytime he logs in, it is the same. Maybe this is part of the problem, where you log into a server and immidiatly break your legs. He didn't have broken legs before he logged out. Maybe it has something to do with the water? Can't give you a solution though. You should file in a bug report!

Why do people actually believe that anything the do or wear provoke or prevent KoS'ing?

Hm, maybe this addition goes along with the reworked health and medical system Rocket was talking about. I'm looking forward to it. -

@Ineedscoffe: I'm somewhat impressed, how you soldiered on. I broke my legs twice yesterday. First time sitting on the top floor of the "prison" on an airfield. Went up the stairs, walked to the loot in the back part of the corridor, kneeled down, pressed tab to open the inventory and my legs broke. Crawled to some buildings in the town near the airfield, found nothing, opened a thread where to find sticks, logged in later, crawled around a bit more, got shot in the back of the head from not more then 5 meters away without hearing footsteps or get talked to. Nice. New character, ran around, lotted things, got decent equipment, ran along a road, server restarted, I joined it again, spawned a few hundred meters on an open field from the point where I lost the connection, crack, broke my legs. Wtf. Had a lucky find earlier and applied morphine. Could run around again. Made a splint from the first sticks I found (which took forever). Take it with me from now on. Made a thread, demanding implementation of spawning sticks when chopping down bushes. I probably would have had a zombie kill me, if I didn't had the morphine the second time. Crawling around and searching for sticks while everywhere around you are fucking trees and bushes is ass.
