Could always try it out, doesn't hurt. But I guess if you have bad latency it might not be that fun. I have about the same latency as I have on stable branch european servers.
-
The experimental servers are, in my opinion, more fun than the stable ones. Probably cause of the players and the fact that the servers, regular and hardcore alike are generally packed with people. It is ever changing as well, with things being added and you discover new things. So I'd say, give that a go. However, with that said... there's still not much more to do than to explore (finding new stuff) and combat as far as mechanics go. But there ought to be a new update fairly soonish I guess. Which should add persistent objects, whatever that might entail (either barricading or storage) and hopefully more than just that.

I've seen a couple in the NWAF. I think the DM kiddies are still on the stable branch.

My first kill was bashing someone to death with a fire extinguisher in Solnichniy, bastard stabbed me with a bayonette for the mosin... and this is after I gave him food. That was my second life and probably 60-90 minutes after I started up the game for the first time.

Weapons need to spawn with atleast 1 magazine in them.
LeChat replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I definitely agree, it makes little sense to find sporter magazines or crossbow bolts in military installations. What I personally would prefer would be that most (not all though) weapons spawn with magazines in them, with rounds ranging from empty to full capacity, however drastically reduce the amount of loose ammunition laying around, including those still in their boxes as well as reducing the amount of spare magazines laying about (magazines should rarely be at full capacity when found, including those found with said weapon). But... that's just me. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
LeChat replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
I'd hardly call it childsplay, a deer runs between 5-200 meters (I've seen deer run the same distance when being shot using .308 Win and hitting the same areas - now I've never seen a deer being shot with a broadhead in person, that's just figures from people I know that are hunting with bows) after being shot with a broadhead if it is in a vital area. There is a reason why some people hunt using bows/crossbows and broadheads (well I don't think it's legal anywhere to hunt with a field tip) and it's not because it's ineffective. The upside of using firearms is the fact that you have a higher rate of fire, reloading time, you're able to shoot long distances and still kill. With that said, it could be because the crossbow is new and it hasn't been tuned yet and it's probably better to nerf something than to buff it, or it could be that it is trying to compensate for rate of fire/reload speed, or any other reason really or they just realised that broadheads are lethal. I don't think anyone but the devs could answer your question why it does more damage than the M4. Now to my question: where the f* do they spawn? I've found bolts and I've found stuff to make a bow but alas, no arrows and no crossbow. -
Persistent objects... I'm not sure that I would say that persistent objects and base building is quite the same thing, even though base building relies on objects being persistent. Saying base building when it would actually (not saying that it will be, just a theoretical scenario) be barricading a window and a door - might rub some people the wrong way, due to expectations. Not complaining, just pointing out that there's a difference and I don't think people should let their imaginations run wild quite yet. Unless they choose to implement: barricading, building, crafting of materials, persistent storage and god knows what else at the same time. I hope though that I'm wrong when I'm being sceptical about persistent objects = base building.
-
Sadly, I think a lot of people would oppose it having equal damage to a pistol. I wouldn't, since they probably wouldn't be able to simulate the kind of damage broadheads do.

Bandit is too nice a word for that, camper is better and more accurate.

I found a stick in a shed, so they definitely spawn. Don't think we are able to interact with trees or bushes. Still don't know how to make arrows though, it's not by combining sticks and a knife at least.
-
Rope and I don't remember the exact name for it (forgot to take a screenshot of it), it's a piece of ash wood and I'm almost positive it has the words 'ash' and 'wood' in it. I found mine in a shed in the woods NE of the NWAF. I guess it could be 'ashwood stick' or something like that. Have no idea about the arrows, the model comes with the arrow attached to it.

The one problem I have with NIGHT...
LeChat replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I "always" (quite often anyway) find them in the piano building, top floor. Sure varying condition, but still. I see them there more often than not. Albeit, I probably haven't checked the house in a couple of weeks so I guess it could be changed. -
I think I see a new trend in body modifications coming... ...I haven't found any arrows though, but then again I only looked for 40 minutes or so.
-
I like it. I mean, sure it isn't perfect - far from it. I doubt I'd get ruined pants just because I fall down some stairs and break my legs or that everything would get ruined from a couple of shots. I guess and hope that they eventually will improve it though. No need to remove the system, only improve it.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
LeChat replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Yeah because in the time of smart phones it's really hard to download skype, set the phone on speaker and launch skype using the phone. Or heck even using skype on another computer for that matter. It wouldn't affect anything at all to not launch DayZ while Skype (or any other third-party VOIP is running) it would just create an inconvenience for some people and those who wanted to use a third-party application while playing DayZ would do so through other means. -
Looking back, Do you think that EA release was a good idea?
LeChat replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
From a dev/publisher point of view, it's great. No real product and you still get the cash for it. December being one of the better months to release something. From a player point of view, you can do a lot of research via youtube videos and discussion forums before deciding to buy a product or not. The whole concept of EA or paying to test a product that is in alpha is pretty weird - but the goal of it is to make money, so I guess that it works. -
It works, but it's not logical. But there's a whole lot of things in this game that isn't logical, so why is this required to be ultra-logical when there's little else in the game that is (and probably won't be)? I am guessing that these things (weapon mods) will be changed, however I think that will come when all or at least most weapons and weapon mods are in. Had all weapons been implemented and a substantial amount of time had passed since the last weapon was implemented I would have agreed with the thread in particular, but right now it just feels (to me anyway) redundant and as a matter of fact I am hoping that they won't put much time into it until other features or mechanics of the game is actually implemented. But then again I think I can say that I don't care which direction it goes - I wouldn't complain if they changed it to a more logical system and I wouldn't complain if they didn't.

What are they going to do against "Server Loot Transfer"?
LeChat replied to Wayze's topic in General Discussion
I'm interested in knowing what they will do to ensure that items aren't lost if the person renting the server that someone is storing their shit on decides that it isn't worth the money anymore - a scenario that could happen on any public server. I don't think that they can do anything about it though, not with the hive system anyway, making public servers pretty much redundant. -
My game experience until now (100+ hours) and how it changed
LeChat replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
Give it a couple of patches and return. If you're not into pvp there isn't much else to do right now, once you've explored the map that is that. More features/mechanics will come, but I wouldn't hold my breath for any ultimate 'goals to work for'. -
Bartering/trading with other players work... if you trust them, so an in-game currency with a fixed value isn't really necessary. I reckon further down the line, if they add more people to the servers and implement barricading, base building and the like - some people will set up shop or provide areas for safe® trading.

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?
LeChat replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No I'm not, I don't want to read smoke signals from the mountains of the Appalachian or decipher morse code signals from pocket mirros in the Dhabi desert. The point is: I don't want to have to go to three different tweets or read some reddit threads or tumblr posts when they have an official forum. It's poor handling. I'm happy with the information, just not the way it is distributed. -
While that is true, most people do assume that an MMO has to have thousand of players on a server. I think the purpose of the video might have become slightly twisted - it was more towards the lines of just pointing out that the game infact did state that it was an MMO. I could care less about people's personal opinions whether or not it should be, in its current state, classified as an MMO. My personal opinion is that the term "MMO" is vague. Is it the capacity of players, the size of world, having persistent worlds? Too many questions and not enough clarifications or definitions when it comes to that term. --- In order to not get too OT on the thread. Sure the game has a lot of flaws and it's still just in alpha, albeit four months into an open alpha is quite a long time I'd say - for it to be open and not closed. It's been too hyped (and I think part of that is to blame on Dean, for all the times he's been saying 'you know what would be cool' paraphrasing of course or 'what we would like...'), there's too many people who wants it to go in different directions (someone is bound to get disappointed, whichever group it will be remains to be seen). Had I hoped for quicker implementation of features? Definitely, no doubt about it. But then again, I don't think anyone would say no to that. Can't say I'm too satisfied with the fact that all that has been implemented is weapons and clothes and rain (albeit rain is definitely a step in the right direction) - but that also means that, there will be less boring (clothes and weapons) updates later on and more mechanics and features. I think the main problem was to release the game as an alpha in this stage. A closed alpha would have been better. X00 random testers could easily have tested and found all the bugs so far, on closed servers. They could have released it when more things were implemented, as to make it into something else than a FFA DM with beans and soda. Whether or not H1Z1 will outshine DayZ? That remains to be seen. DayZ might turn out shit. So might H1Z1. Personally I feel that DayZ has a better setting, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter if it is east Europe or America - cause the mechanics and how the game feels is what matters (to me anyway).

The official launch trailer begs to differ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0tQIxZUmWw 37 seconds in.

Hard thinking? I think you're giving DayZ too much credit on that part. Basically I think it comes down to the fact that it is a pretty niche game, unless you're actively looking for it or hearing about it from friends or some streamer/youtuber - you won't find it (I think), it just doesn't have the same exposure like games such as The Sims, Skyrim, CoD, BF, WoW, AC4 and so on and so forth... I think you could just as easily take any other "smaller" game, say... Amnesia the Dark Descent or Shadowrun Returns instead of DayZ.

"That female zombie is starting to look attractive"
LeChat replied to Drake903's topic in General Discussion
I was going to say that if you find rotting corpses... attractive, this might be for you.
