Question about the certainty of this game
LeChat replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
You don't expect people to read and comprehend the words that are written on a forum do you? That is an absurd thought. -
Got to applaud the effort and dedication.

DayZ Virtual Paper Doll - Community Clothing Suggestions (v1.30)
LeChat replied to Evil Minion's topic in Suggestions
Although not a perfect match, if you get the brown hunting pants you can get the brown hoodie, they match fairly well. But yeah, jackets are definitely needed. Personally I would like to see t-shirts as not taking up the shirt/chest/whatever-it's-called spot at all, you can easily wear a t-shirt and a hoodie for instance or a button down shirt (most people do so it's not really something that isn't widely known), by that logic I guess you could wear a t-shirt, hoodie, jacket. Was mainly thinking from a temperature point of view and since t-shirts doesn't really add any functionality other than for bandages (i.e no storage space) I don't see that it would cause a problem for limiting inventory. Although I guess they'd have to create a new slot for it though. -
Coin, screwdriver, pretty much anything you can use to wedge down the forward button...

Zombies are too hard (defending my opinion)
LeChat replied to JosephHabib's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't call them hard... more like annoying, much like gnats. -
I've only encountered swaying with the LRS scope so far, which at times can be abit over the top - but nothing like what you're describing.
-
I've found one so far, in the barracks of NWAF. Found a gazillion drum mags (not really, maybe five in total - no regular ones tho, sadly enough), some scopes and some folding stocks. I think just comes down to luck though, getting there before some server hopper does. I reckong it helps to know the restart times of the server you're playing on.
-
It seems to sway less when you hold your breath, for a short period of time anyway. Doesn't seem to be any difference between standing, crouching or prone position though. Some sway is just natural, which is why people use bipods or rests and aiming/shooting aids, unfortunately the bipod doesn't reduce sway it seems. On the other hand, the weapon sways (at least the AKM) regardless if you're using a sight or not - it is just more noticable with a scope (for obvious reasons).

I'm glad that they made it so that you need to use cloth and twigs at least. I don't think they will take it to the depths where you'd actually have to make further preparations to make it easier to light a fire in less than optimal conditions (thinking about either carrying smolders, or making char cloth, fatwood, birds' nests and similar things). But I hope that they take it a little bit further at least. Most people in this day and age can't even light a fire without the use of flammable solvents or chemicals. I think the reason why there aren't any firesteels or ferorods in the game is because they would be vastly, vastly superior to matches due to the fact that you can strike a spark with pretty much anything, they don't run out anywhere near as quickly as matches does. Not that I would opppose to using bow drills and more primitive means of making a fire. I think it will be important once fire actually becomes (if it ever does) a vital part of survival, as it should be. At least give the option of making swedish/finnish log stoves/canadian candles. Now I've only tried making a fire once, in the experimental build, but then it succeeded the first time. Going through a box of 50 matches does sound like it needs a lot of adjusting.

Can honestly say that it is one of the few weapons, well the only, that I've been excited about.

I don't think it will be a horror game. It will have tense moments, that's for sure. My most intense moment was when I just started playing, it being night time and I was laying on top of a silo at the factory outside of Solnichniy. Looking in the direction of Solnichniy I see two lights and hearing gun fire, for all I know they're shooting zombies and I see a third light, that disappears quickly after it has been turned on. Sure, the fellow that turned it on could just have turned it off again - but given the fact that the shooting didn't stop I am pretty certain that he or she was shot. The only problem is that the two lights starts heading the way towards the factory, luckily for me - they never bothered to look on top of the silo. But I wouldn't say that the game instills me with the fear and/or paranoia to the amount that I think is required for it to make it a horror game - then again that is highly subjective.

This pretty much. The same could be said for all or at least most clothing, I think it is fair to say that most of the damage that comes from zombies are from scratching/punching and not biting (just judging from animations and how biting actually works in real life and the fact that humans doesn't really have the anatomy to bite as a means of attacking or defending properly in comparison to for instance predatory animals such as bears or canines) and unless zombiefication brings with it claws or talons - there's not a chance in hell that you can scratch through a pair of denims or functional clothes using cordura fabrics - regardless of the strength of said human/zombie, a finger nail would break before protruding the fabric if used in a swiping manner. Yeah, sure over time - enough fingernails would be able to scratch through the fabric due to abrasion. But yeah, realism has to make way for game play in some areas. Particularly since our zombies can't grapple, or pin down someone - thus really making their current form of attacking rather ridiculous - but very amusing to watch. A more likely scenario of dying to zombies in this game would be: knocked to the ground by zombie and/or grappled by zombie and either have your head or chest caved in by multiple blows to it or chewed up or in case of a lot of zombies I guess getting limbs torn off would be a viable way to die as well. Not hit a couple of times and then die by bleeding as though your guts were hanging out. But given the amount of weaponry and the lack of zombies I would say it is only fair that they're able to cause some harm, as unlikely as it would be.

The most idiotic suggestion I've seen on these forums I believe.

Plenty of reasons to have an axe or a knife or a pickaxe, since they're needed for more than just melee combat and an axe is still better than fists, so is the pickaxe. Sadly, I don't think melee combat will ever feel good in this game

Experimental build, you can make sticks from bushes and logs (logs you get from chopping down trees), you can search for sticks as well... so, there's an abundance of sticks now (as there should be in forested areas). Where on earth would you get cyanide pills? Just have it so you can commit suicide, requiring either rope, knife, pistol, shotgun...
-
I think the loot tables will be modified, as you said some things are just redundant at the moment because it's so hard to find the certain items you need to make them. But for instance... prior to the current build on experimental in order to make a bag you had to find a burlap sack and a rope (and well not necessarily a stick but it helped) - now you can use the hide from animals instead of the burlap sack. They have also made it so that you can disassemble items you've made (at least some of them). So I guess further down the line makeshift or DIY items will be more common for the sole reason that they will be easier to procure.

Glitch abusers have found their way into the appartments now..
LeChat replied to toasted duckie's topic in General Discussion
Better that they do it now, so that they can fix it properly, than that they do it in the final release. -
This has been my experience of the experimental branch thus far today... other than the 40 minutes it took me to accidentally end up in that room...
-
There are no safe places, there are currently places that are safer than elsewhere. However, that won't be the case if they decide to add aggressive wildlife and/or roaming zombies.

Remove night-time for now, until it's fixed?
LeChat replied to TheGreatPerson's topic in General Discussion
Albeit the gamma adjusting is annoying if or when people use it, I still play during night, just use a headlamp when needed. It's quite fun. -

I'll admit - I always assume that people in camouflage (and this is rather hypocritical of me, since I've resorted to wearing only camouflage on HC servers and I don't KOS) or people wearing for instance all black and/or wearing gasmasks/payday masks, are people who KOS. That's just my assumption, I don't base my actions on assumptions though, except that I tend to stay away from those type of people. Same goes for people with no pants and raincoats and/or helmets of various kinds.

You've seen "The Truman show" one time too many I believe... that doesn't make it less true though, everyone is on it - except you :O I used to see them "all the time" in firestations, but that was also the only place I saw them.
-
Not necessarily, I mean with larger populations on the servers - more loot will be necessary. However, right now - if you go to the military tents on low pop server or directly after a restart, there is a shitload of stuff if you're keeping everything to yourself. Personally I've never found much gear that was useful to me in the tents in the NWAF. Sure I've found a couple of worn MP things (perhaps 4 in total), and two worn LRS. But other than that I've just found badly damaged sights and parts, alot of magazines for the 1911 and the sporter, followed by M4 magazines and variation of clothing articles. That's from... perhaps four rounds to the tents at NWAF on the experimental servers, one of those times I was just about to leave as the server restarted. So no I, personally, don't think that there's too much loot there. Some people might hit the jackpot and get pristine LRS', ACOGs, bipods, what-nots at their first try - but some won't. Particularly when server resets become less (hopefully) frequent.

I guess this pretty much summed it up for me. Sadly, I do end up with pretty boring clothes (camouflage) on HC, as opposed to regular.
