That is a thoughtful and insightful comment! Very true. I think your avatar should just stay in the game always in real time. Like Rust. If you leave it just lays down until you come back. Better find a tree to climb up.

Ladies and gentlemen!! Let's have a hand for The Most Interesting Gamer In The World. You have my beans for doing it right while everyone else is doing it wrong. I'm just screwing with you. I agree it's not that hard to get gear and I actually enjoy playing more when I'm in need of gear... less inhibitions about interacting with other players. It gets boring when I'm fully loaded and don't have anything to do except grief Bambis... Which I don't actually do. Last night I did punch a fellow new spawn to death but only because I watched him kill a third new spawn. It felt... Good.

Your opinion is stupid. It goes against everything like 8 people have said in here so you are wrong. Stop being so paranoid and find a better spot to hide in this very buggy version of the alpha where zombies spawn out of nowhere and walk through walls. Oh and where players spawn in based on where they were when they logged off (more or less). There are obviously tons of safe places and this system of log-out penalties isn't premature at all.

Whoa!! Whoa!!! There is no such thing as a legit logger I am lead to believe. ;)

Fair enough. Can't wait for rocket to add the hand holding hot key.

OK! Challenge accepted. First of all, it seems really absurd for someone to do that. But I see your point. Albeit it seems like a rather inconsequential one. I do like the penalty time for leaving and rejoining a server. That sort of eliminates ghosting, doesn't it (and hinders server jumping)? Isn't that a totally different thing than combat logging? If a person has enough patience to continually reset his timer to try and log out and ghost someone then they probably have enough patience to sit in a bush and shoot someone in the back as they pass. But in my experience with this game, if you don't shoot someone point blank or get the drop on them with a sniper rifle then it's pretty easy to run around buildings, duck in and out and head for the hills. I've run away from players plenty of times. By the time they log out on that hypothetical hill of yours and rejoin the server after delay/penalty then I feel like the "victim" would be long gone. I dunno... Did I argue against your point successfully? Probably not. Seems like camping the reset button makes very little sense... and extremely boring. But again, I'm not a ghoster, combat logger, or bandit so it guess I just don't understand it the way you do. I definitely don't understand the need to KoS everyone for their gear when it's really not hard to find gear on your own, either.

The only assumption I have made is that no place is safe in this game. Yet. It's super buggy, zombies spawn out of thin air, they walk through walls, players can log into a game an appear right behind you in the woods (super random if that happened, but it CAN) and that this "combat logging" solution isn't perfect by a long shot. But shit, fix zombie clipping and then implement this system and I've have far less problems with it. I'm sorry I haven't read all of your posts. I'm sure they are fascinating and insightful. But the one post I did read made no sense to me at all. So I added my (admittedly snarky) opinion of things. You seem to think the developers of DayZ are infallible and then I don't know what we are doing being invited to participate in this alpha and give feedback if it's not wanted. I think the level of hero worship of these developers is odd, which is why I made the original version of my comment. And yes, I still think this version of the 30 second logout timer is bad. And I haven't been affected by it yet! Ive only played twice since it got added, but I know that I'm going to have plenty of times where I spend time finding a hiding spot (unless there's some sort of pressing need in real life to immediately log out) and find myself dead when I log in. Doesn't seen like a cool scenario to me.

You got me there, General Washington. I don't know what the hell you're talking about and I'm a Marine combat veteran. All I can see is that it could give someone legitimately trying to just log off a chance to defend themselves if a threat arises. I can't wrap my head around how it will help give anyone the upper hand except another aggressor, not the logger. But after 70+ hours in this game I still don't understand combat logging. So maybe I'm the wrong demographic for this penalty.

What does the timer have to do with any of that? I've read your example about a thousand times and still don't understand it. What tactical advantage is there possibly in that scenario? Either you are in a position to be the superior person or you're not. I don't see any advantage...

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

I don't understand what this has to do with combat logging. Can't you just do this without logging out and just sit in a window and kill someone? How does having a logout timer affect this scenario or give anyone an advantage? If anything it maybe takes a second to unfreeze giving someone who has "the drop" an advantage...

I guess I just have an opinion? I mean... Sometimes people like pepperoni on their pizza and sometimes people like to bitch on the internet. Not sure how it's abusable since I've never used it. Or seen it. Hell, maybe it works great and just people didn't like it because they didn't like it. Maybe I would f'ing LOVE it. But I knew anything I said would ruffle some feathers after I insulted Dean. Who I'm sure is actually super cool. I think the reason I don't like it and you do is that I'm not a bandit, combat logger or ghoster. I'm explorer and medic when possible. So it annoys me. And I annoy you because I don't play the game just to kill people and feel some thrill of being digitally superior. Your avatar is better than mine.

Then I guess the great lord Rocket is a "combat logging" whiner too... Because there's no place on Chernopolis that is safe for 30 seconds. From bandits, griefers or clipping zombies. I've been alone in the woods nowhere near a town and had a zombie start eating my dome. The on-screen timer most people are suggesting doesn't let you ghost log because you're still basically helpless/immobilized. But it at least gives you the option to cancel the logout if a zombie comes along or a player walks onto your screen. In a combat logging scenario you still would have to stand there semi-helpless, giving your "victim" a chance to blast your face... Or let's you log out after you kill the other guy. Then logout. What's so hard to accept about any of this? Being blind for 30 seconds sucks.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

I've been bitched at so many times... Apparently it's an issue with the building physics and not the zombie AI. But either way it sucks. I wish they would fix that before adding knee socks and North Face jackets or whatever is in this update.
  14. Crooked Hauser

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

That guys going to bed? He has work tomorrow? He thinks he's alone? Bullshit! Combat logger! Shoot him!!
  15. Crooked Hauser

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

And if I can't randomly walk up on a log-sitter (that's my term for your avatar for 30sec after you log out) and kill him for his pants with no chance of defense then he's obviously a combat logger. There is no better system! I love you Rocket!!!! Fap fap fap... PS - Dexter season finale... Combat (serial killer) logger?

So just charter a flight out of Chernarus and then log off when I get to Antarctica? Check. Maybe next patch. ;)

Yeah ok. I wasn't overly aggressive in my reply I don't think. But it is true that many times I hear kids crying or talking in the background during MP gaming sessions. It drives me up a wall. PS - The hidden words about trolling? Like if I call you a racial epithet and then say, "just had to be racist." ;) Too much sarcasm and humor is lost on text messages and forum posts.

Well, you are obviously right and I am obviously wrong. I guess that's what you wanted to hear judging from every post I've seen of yours recently. Cool. You won our fight. I submit to your wisdom and mighty rule.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

It just logged me out right away today with no countdown so I'll probably be dead when I log on. ;) I wasn't Combat Logging, just decided to stop playing. As far as I know there were no players around. And I climbed a ladder to avoid any possible zombies. It's like people think you shouldn't be allowed to stop playing this game. Like the matrix! But I get what that dude is saying completely. You see a counter on your screen. You can't move but maybe you can turn your head. At least that gives you a chance if a bandit does appear.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

Good for you, bro. I have said it 3-4 times already. It's not the 30 seconds that's the bother, it's the 30 seconds before fixing the zombie clipping issue. And the 30 seconds happens after log-off so there is no waiting for it to log-off safely before attending to my mailman's pie. It's a total crap shoot if I'm going to be dead when I log back on. When zombies stop walking through walls I will feel a lot better about 30 seconds of post-log-off limbo, bro. (Edited) PS - have you ever been in a firefight? 30 seconds is a lifetime. I think 5-10 seconds is ample time to kill a combat logger.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

Agree! It is fun. That's why I play it so much. And I wouldn't mind the 30 second delay as soon as the zombie ghosts are patched. I know it's alpha yada yada. I'm certainly not complaining about the game overall, just the priority of some patches. I mean, if I see a dude around and need to log out so I run into a building and hide behind a cabinet he may not find me for 30 seconds after log-out... But if said dude could see me through walls and eat my brains then yikes. Everyone's a griefer in DayZ. ;)

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

Wow. You missed the point entirely. And I already explained in an earlier post. Life! Life happens and in many cases causes you to have to log out of a video game. The mailman might come with a package. You might shart in your pants. Maybe you're dog eats the pie you had cooling in the kitchen. Who the hell knows? My point is that with game breaking things like zombies that walk through walls still being an issue then a log-out delay shouldn't be rolled out. Excuse me for using my children as an example. What a terrible parent I am.

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

Just one example to make a point, dude. I guess I could blame my wife or my bladder. And yes, I have kids and still game. After 8:30 when they are asleep. Not while they are awake like some lame parents.
  25. Crooked Hauser

    Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.33.114926

I'm upstairs in a building with all the doors shut. I log off and a zombie walks through a fence and brick wall, and bites off my nuts through the floor. I would hope the zombie clipping issue would be fixed before adding log-off penalties. Personally it makes it hard for me because I have young children and jumping up at night when one of them is crying potentially ruins hours of gaming. Combat logging sucks, I know. But so do magic zombies.
