This mod seems to kind of pull it off:
It seems like it would be easier with a physics engine such as the one used in Arma 3. Hopefully they use the Arma 3 physics engine to it's full potential then.
People with no/limited body armour do explode and rip apart like that. Ever seen saving private ryan when people get hit with explosives and machine gun rounds? Yea that pretty much equates to a left for dead 2 experience Factor in that zombies are malnourished and have disease and that makes their bodies weaker and more vulnerable to explosives and ammo rounds. Because movies always depict real life' date=' and these Olympic-class runner zombies (infected, really) are "malnourished and weaker" than the rest of us. Edit: Not to mention it can't be done in this engine anyways. [/quote'] The intention of saving private ryan was to be as realistic as possible. Dare I say the intention is the same for the Day Z mod? Psychosis and adrenaline can do wonders for the diseased and malnourished.

Also your argument stating that if it was realistic' date=' it would be in arma 2 doesn't really add up considering arma 2 has plenty of things that make it not realistic at all. [hr']
Well being a fan of the zombie genre, I've decided to take the plunge into Day Z. However one thing I notice is the lack of gore which makes the game not very pleasing visually as a core component of any zombie game is to see your enemies mashed into tiny pieces at the hands of one's weaponry. Having zombies simply drop dead seems not very true to the zombie genre and not great for one's sense of immersion. Left for dead 2 has it perfect with a realistic damage model for gore and body parts. Do the developers have any intention on bringing gore into the Day Z franchise or is this a limitation of the engine?
