    Christmas Ceasefire

This idea reminds me of the Christmas Day cease fire that took place in the trenches of World War 1, between the Brits and the Germans. There was no guarantee that either side wasn't using the "cease fire" as a ploy to remain in their trenches and simply open up the moment the other side all climbed out of their trenches, but they didn't. They actually sang songs, shared rations, gave each other crude gifts. Now, I'm sure there were a few cases where soldiers fired upon their foes in-spite of the whole cease fire thing. I won't lie, I picked up on this story from one of Frankie's "War Stories" videos, but I found it fascinating none the less. Another interesting fact was, Adolf Hitler who must of been no more than 18-20 at the time, told his commanding officer that he refused to fraternize with the british for any reason at all. Anyway, if this did happen, like if we could organize this event well, with a specific date, time and server, as well as a location on the map to meet up at before we all went off our own ways, I would definitely take part just to record. I imagine some funny shit would end up happening. lol.
  2. Hey guys. I am looking for certain "communities" if you will. Sort of like CCG gaming, and the CCG launcher. I haven't played the DayZ mod in quite some time, and I'm really looking forward to playing the mods like Epoch and Overpoch but I don't really know where to look. I do have DayZCommander but everytime I look, nothing comes up as far as servers I'm interested in.. A few months back I downloaded the CCG launcher and saw they had a bunch of servers, generally all full to the brim. From wasteland, to vanilla DayZ to Epoch and other spin-offs. I watch FrankieonPC a lot, as I'm sure a lot of DayZ players do, and he always seems to find the coolest servers. Yes, I'm aware it takes him days and days of recording footage across multiple servers to release one 20-30m video, but basically those servers are exactly what I'm after. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want something as fun but still retains enough "realism" factor. I don't mind modern day assault weapons like SCAR Heavies, G36, M40 bolt actions, L96 .338 Lapua snipers, etc. I'd like something with a lot of vehicles. Some key info: I am from the US, and ping is a major concern. The furthest place I'd play in is the UK. If you guys know what CCG is, and how they have their own launcher, basically I'm looking for other alternatives. Something with multiple styles. Overpoch. Epoch. normal DayZ, and WASTELAND!!!, you get my drift. I've been playing nothing but DayZ SA lately and I think a change of scenary and pace would do me good, so if anyone has any ideas, please point in the right direction. I'm speciflcally looking for servers where I can expect 15-50 people at all times.I like active communities. I'm also looking for servers with custom modern era guns, base building, new gun sounds, etc. Believe me, if you're a viewer of frankie, you know exactly what I mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! -Kevin
  3. Well, I decided to reinstall DayZ S/A after a few months break. At the time I was playing standalone but I figured I'd hop back into it with what the standalone offered, since it's had some time to grow. Everything seemed to be going well until, well...I can't find anything but experimental servers. Maybe over a dozen of them at most. Let me be clear, I completely wiped my directory of anything STEAM related on my hard-drive. I went through all the common sense tactics to uninstall DayZ from Steam. So I figured ok, as long as it's uninstalled, I can reinstall the stable version onto my desktop and start playing! Wrong!. I loaded the game up, went to the server browser, and it was nothing but exp. servers, no stable build servers what so ever. Let me be the first to say I tried the trick where you could run both experimental and stable on the same hard-drive via some switchery with the files in my steam-apps follder. Some clever re-naming of the files, and swapping them around so the experimental thought it was the stable dayz standalone, and vice versa. Soon found out that did not work. Ok, next step: Deleted everything to do with dayz, steam, everything. Started with a fresh slate. Reinstalled DayZ as well as Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead, since I still like to play the mod as often as possible for stuff like Overwatch and Epoch, aka; Overpoch. Turns out that didn't turn out so well due to some version mismatch. I can play Epoch well, and normal DayZ mod just fine. Now, to end this short story. Every single time I reinstall the DayZ standalone, it is in the experimental version, and I can barely get it to run o nthe servers that are present. Like I said, I've tried rolling things back, verfying my steam cache, everything a normal person would sink of. It's almost as like, I'm gonna need to do a complete reformat of windows, a fresh install of steam and a fresh install of DayZ SA on top of it just to get the game I want. Has ANYONE experienced this. Does ANYONE have a solution. Don't get me wrong, I like the experimental version, but I'm a late night gamer due to work hours and the population for exper. servers are pretty weak while standard servers are good enough to enjoy myself while playing. Short short: My DayZ install is defaulting to experimental no matter what I do. No mater that I opt out of the beta program / experimental client. I'm out of options here. I just want the game to run good and reliability as it used to, along with Arma 2 Arrowhead and Epoch, Overwatch, etc. Even in Arma 2, I'm lucky if I can join maybe 10-14% of the servers(lower population mind you.) Please help.. -Kevin S. I'll try to answer any questions you have. Just keep in mind prior to my dayz hiatus, I played every day without so much as one hiccup.
  4. EXPERIMENTAL BUILD: If another player places a burlap sack over your head, and you remove it, for some reason the game still thinks it's there, but yet it's not in your inventory to remove it. Because of this, you can not place any hat/helmet on your head until your character dies. This needs to be addressed as it's pretty severe at the moment when you have a pristine ballistic helmet and you can't use it and are forced to go without any head armor or head clothing until you die. Just thought this needs to be brought to the dev's attention. Thank you! -Kevin
  5. Nvm, I think I figured it out. Went to DayZ under steam, and hit "Opt-In" for experimental development or something like that, and now I'm download a file. I assume once that's in, I should be able to join the exp. branch servers once I log back in. At least I hope so lol. EDIT: Thanks Zhrike. I figured it out about 2m before your post. Good info on the reverting back to stable hive/patch though. Thanks! -Kev
  6. I've been wanting to try the experimental branch. Where do I find it? Is it just in the server browser under a different version because I have seen a few servers with different versions but I get a version mismatch upon joining. Is there an update somewhere I should download? I heard Rocket talking about 100 slot servers and I never got a chance to try it. Anyway, what do I do to get into experimental branch and try out the new changes. Thanks for any replies that can point me in the right direction! Thanks dudes. -Kev

My biggest fail so far in SA

Well now I don't feel so bad hahahah but man what a pain in the ass.
  8. Well, after about 6 hours of playing in higher pop servers, I logged on this morning to my usual server(one of the NJ ones 2-* something. Can't remember the last number, and this is why I cry. So I logged on, and there wasn't anyone on, it's 6:30 am my time in NY so i figure, why not head to the NWAF and hit the camo buildings and the barracks. So, after acquiring an all pristine M4, and a camo painted Mosin with pristin PU scope, bipod, compensator, etc..plus a hunters backpack I've been longing to get which I finally did end up finding... all is going well. Was stocked with ammo, ammo box, protector box(pristine) (At this point, the worst piece of my inventory in total was worn grade. So, after checking the ATC tower, I decided I was going to head over to the northern barracks and then into the newly added military zone just beyond that. Sadly I didn't make it that far, as I totally derped and glitched through the side of the building and fell to my death. Now, in the mod, I probably would of been bleeding, and with a broken leg obviously, but even with a healthy state, I was insta dead. So I thought ok, I'll hoof it back and get my gear no problem. No ones on the server yet anyway. Well, then I goto my favorites, and the server I last visited was NOT there! And the only reason I had to disconnect and check the fav/server browser was because everytime I tried to respawn at the coast, it would hang and say "Testing, testing"... forcing me into another server as my character would not load. So much gear. Someone will be very happy when they log on that server in a couple hours to find some of the best clothes, both the best weapons in pristine(my M4 even had some Magpul stuff on it(no sight yet though), hunter BP, I was all decked out in green/ttkso or whatever clothes( I will say I'm not a bandit. I do however shoot people who are clearly up to no good, and if I see another player shooting at someone else, like a sniper shooting at someone trying to make their rounds, I will not hesitate to kill em. I guess a vigilante is more my play style. If you're not a threat to me realistically, I usually say Hi, and say as long as they don't try to follow me I won't be forced to fire(and even then I'll only break their legs, then bandage them and walk away. Anyway, was so pissed. I know it's a huge saying that you shouldn't get attached to your gear, but it was the most I had acquired in SA so far, you couldn't really get more decked out. Oh well, lesson learned. Thought I would share. What's your biggest fails? :)
  9. I agree on some player interaction as far as powering on towns, albeit only for a short time, and then you or a group of people would have to collect a lot more of a specific resource *IE: Fuel* to fill 'er back up to power the town back up. Say Elektro for example. There's already a power station, kind of looks like a Coal Plant with that big stack. Now, imagine at night if the entire city of elektro lit up(interiors only for the sake of simplicity) and maybe some street lights. From a game play perspective, this is pretty minor. From a development standpoint I'd imagine it'd be quite an undertaking but I do know it would be extremely cool, and be something that could be of use later on as more options come in, such as base building, etc. I've seen people do this in the mod, and even though technically chernarus is a wasteland now, and we're all that's left of civilization, you have to believe that some survivors would have the ingenuity to figure this stuff out to re-activate a once abandoned power plant, even if only for a couple in-game hours, so to say. Elektro at night, all lit up while the rest of the surrounding environment is pitch black also adds another big level of danger as the town will still remain under threat from snipers at night as long as the power is on, but it will allow people to loot a bit easier since I don't see Nightvision ever getting into the game imo.
  10. Once you find an Axe, which is incredibly easy to do, whether it's a fireman's axe or a splitting axe, it becomes so ridiculousy easy to kill zombies silently and efficiently. I haven't used the splitting axe much cuz I haven't had to, but with the fireman's axe being a 1 shot, it takes maybe 15 seconds to kill 4+ zombies assuming you can aim. If you have absolutely no weapons, the best thing you can do if it's only 1 zombie, is to hit it in the head to cause a knockdown, and then sprint away and try to drop Line of Sight on it. Once the aggro drops, continue what you were doing or keep moving.

A console version would kill this game tbh..

I honestly don't know what youre on about with the whole "No one plays SA anymore". Every time I log into my steam OR simply look at the server browser, there are TONS and TONS of servers AT max capacity. Much more than the mod. The only activity the mod gets, in my experience, is with Epoch and it's still not as active as I see SA is. SA is for the lack of a better term, more VANILLA of a dayZ experience than Epoch and similar mods of the mod. While I like the base building aspects and stuff like that, it's just not much more than a deathmatch game, ala Wasteland with Zombie npcs roaming around. Everyone running around with Mk12s, Scars, M4A3s, DMRS, M107s, etc. And don't get me wrong, that's fun and all. I used to love it. It just takes the entire vision for dayz, which is a bare bones survival apocalypse game, and shits on it. Surviving aint hard in the mod. Drink a can of coke. Eat a can of beans, and by god: self bloodbag yourself every time you get grazed. Meh. I do understand the point of not creating a console version. At least not until the PC version is in it's prime, when a release version has long been released, and that won't be anytime soon.
  12. I have to say, I'm new to all of the stats when discussing weapon modifiers, but I for one... not a huge fan of things as simple as a hand-guard effecting accuracy of a weapon. Now, I could understand if barrel attachments altered accuracy, and sights, or bipods...a handguard effecting accuracy doesn't make much sense. If it was a vertical foregrip or something that was the modifier, than I could understand. But if I took my M4 which was already dialed in, and swapped around the handguard, it'd still shoot exactly the same UNLESS I either changed the sight, the barrel or attachment(like a suppressor, which would lower bullet velocity since I'd have to use sub-sonic ammo), or the type of ammo/powder load of that ammo itself. It's a piece of plastic, and has nothing to do with the accuracy of the gun assuming the key components haven't been changed, like the barrel or receiver, or sight. Etc. I'm sure you guys understand what I'm saying. I do LOVE the direction they're taking, but I hope they change this up going forward, and add MORE modifiers/attachments that SHOULD and WOULD alter the base accuracy of the weapon.

Glock 18 just out of curiosity

Eh, idk about a glock being in Chernarus as afaik, no standard military forces within the scale of the story of this game, ever carried Glocks as a sidearm. You're looking at Czech made pistols, and for Nato it was most likely a Beretta or Sig Sauer. If we were to get another semi-automatic pistol, I'd rather it be a Beretta (With optional suppressor) or maybe something like a CZ-75. I was going to say a Sig P226 but then again the FNX 45 is basically that, except it's a tactical variant having the pre-threaded barrel for suppressors, optional red-dot sight rail, flashlight, blahblah. And yes, you definitely meant something like a Glock 17 which is a full-size semi automatic or Glock 19 which is an intermediate sized version.. G18 is a Fully Automatic capable pistol, and really has no place lol.

    Rain?

Rain, in it's current state looks absolutely badass. Like PROPER. Way better than the mod. It changes the entire atmosphere of the game. Dark gray skies. Seeing your breath. Limited visibility. I love it. I can't wait for this. It affected your body heat, and caused sickness back in the mod if you do remember. Way back when. If you camped under a tree in the rain for a couple hours, and didn't take heat packs with you, you usually ended up sick, and in such of antibiotics to cure yourself, and fires did help as well. So I'm glad these "once apart of the mod" features are getting to the SA now.
