I really don't know, but I'd expect things to degrade according to their material further down the development line. This being the first implementation of persistent items and storage, I doubt it's as advanced as that yet. Also, what classifies something as a "container"? Is it just tents? Tents and backpacks? Protector cases? Ammo boxes? If an item of clothing has inventory slots, is that a container, too? Is a boonie hat a "container", because it can carry a fishing hook?

Describe Your Playstyle In 5 Words Or Less

Has nobody else noticed that the title of this thread should be "...5 words or fewer"? I blame the schools. -
I get the impression that is correct. Maybe not foreverandeveramen, but long enough to be useful. I am going to test it out, anyhow.
-
Damn your impudence. You know what I mean.
-
Tell you what would be damn useful: being able to carry a backpack in your hands.

I don't think you're looking at this the right way up. Both murder and rape are unacceptable in the real world - that's obvious. Shooting other players in a computer game is ok - it's become acceptable, though there are some people who still dislike and are uncomfortable with it. Rape is not ok in a game, because there's no point in it - there's no gameplay value to be had from it. Competitive shoot-em-ups are fun. "Killing" an opponent in a game might be morally dubious, but it does not affect anyone's real-life health - to be killed is simply to lose the competition, start again and have another go. I think that's why it's ok. But rape doesn't have any purpose in a computer game - it doesn't add anything fun, it doesn't give it a competitive edge. It's just horrible and demeaning. There's a world of difference between the two. Anyway, rape is NOT a deliberate feature of DayZ and it never will be. If anyone in the press thinks that it is, then they are just plain wrong. As for GTA, it isn't the developers' fault that some arseholes have modded the game that way.

I think DayZ needs to be able to defend itself against these kinds of allegations. And that probably means a system of reporting and banning abusive players. In the UK it is a criminal offence to verbally abuse someone on the grounds of sexism, racism or religious intolerance. There have been successful lawsuits against these types of abuse in the context of Facebook and Twitter. If that type of behaviour was displayed on this forum, for example, the very least you would expect is a ban. DayZ Standalone needs that kind of mechanism, otherwise it will bring itself in for negative attention from the mainstream media, which would be unnecessary, because it's avoidable. Rape and torture is not a gameplay feature - it's just something that players can crudely simulate by manipulating other mechanics that are intended for legitimate gameplay purposes - that's not something I think can be easily avoided. But verbal abuse over VOIP probably does need to be policed in some way - other games do it, and not without good reason. At this early stage of development it's understandable that such mechanisms aren't in place yet, but perhaps they should be given more urgent attention?
-
Where are they though? I haven't seen binocs spawn since .45
-
Any multiplayer game that has: 1) VOIP; and 2) character poses such crouching and lying down will be subject to these functions being exploited by irresponsible (for want of a better word) members of its playerbase. I don't think there is any way around it. There is always the option to exit the game if you are uncomfortable with what another player is doing around you; perhaps voice comms should be cut when you die, as well? Simulated sexual violence is not on, in any context or for any reason, and neither is racism or bigotry - players shouldn't have to put up with that sort of shit when they're trying to enjoy themselves, and perhaps there could be some kind of reporting mechanism introduced somewhere down the line?
-
Has anyone seen binoculars recently?

The only reason to ever read The Telegraph is to deliberately make yourself annoyed by the bullshit in the Editorial and Opinion sections.

Why...........(movement and avatar control)

Heh. Haha. Hahahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! -
No. Way. Inland spawns are WRONG, goddamnit. Spawning in Polana and Dolina is bad enough - I hope it's removed ASAP. It's got to be the coast or I'll have a tantrum.

Hey man! Don't shoot! ...... awwww. -
"Increase item spawn rarity" means "make item rarer". Is this what you actually mean? Confused by Q1
-
I really dislike the inland spawns we have now. I think we should always start at the coast and work our way into the interior. It just feels better as a gameplay feature. My ideal system would be completely random spawns on any part of the coast.

The updates I'm most looking forward to are the ones that affect the health mechanics. So when you are fit and healthy you can run around all you like and carry loads of kit, but when you're sick, injured, hungry, tired your character starts to perform progressively worse in all aspects of gameplay. That's the thing that will really make DayZ into the sort of game I'm expecting in the long run.

You still give him the chance though. It's the done thing in those situations. Otherwise, you're no better than mere barbarians. -

I think you should have at least asked him if he had any final words or last requests. -
Good save, sir.
-
Rumbled!
-
Smart players won't put all their best stuff in a single tent, or in an obvious place like the edge of the map. Idiots might, though, so you could still get lucky searching there.
-
It's almost certainly people repeatedly picking up and dropping items so that new stuff is respawned in its place. Either that or cannibals, yeah.
-
The hotfix to enable persis tents is scheduled for wednesday 13th, along with a stop-gap bodge-fix for melee hit detection and (hopefully) a fix for that fucking LMB-be-gone glitch.
