Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.
pillock replied to Ham_Sandwich27's topic in General Discussion
I don't think there is an issue. It'll be tweaked later in development. Hunger might be a bit too fast right now, but so what? DayZ isn't a game yet. You know that. -

Beans for the picture. As for the rest of your post: bollocks. -
I did it on the upper floor of one of those green houses with the double doors at the front and the big kitchen downstairs with the computer in it. So sometimes, at least, it does work upstairs. But yeah, it might not be consistent.

I don't think we need a specific log-in sound; but we do need players to make more noise in general as soon as they start moving about - especially if they are running. Stealth movemnet is mentioned a fair bit in the latest dev-blog, so maybe it's on the way anyway.

Gas stoves DO provide warmth. Stove + gas canister is much more convenient warming-up device than all the fire-lighting gubbins - just crouch near it when it's on.

"Feature complete by the end of the year" is something I've read. I think it was in July, and the man Rocket said he was "extremely confident" about it. So take that as you wish.

maybe I'll just put the briefs on the top of my head, stick a pencil in each nostril and fire off an over-used pop culture reference. Wibble. (it'd make more sense than you) edit: baaaaaaa

It probably took you longer to write that than it would have taken to fire off a brief, off-the-top-of-the-head rundown of new features. So more fool you, I say.

I think they need to add some more random element to the loot spawning. In my view, EVERY item should have a chance of spawning ANYWHERE (except the stuff from dynamic crash sites). Loot spawn chances would still be heavily weighted towards "appropriate" locations (military gear in military buildings, etc), but there should be a chance (however small) of finding anything anywhere. The reason for this is the fact that most people totally ignore the majority of houses/buildings - if there was always a chance of finding higher end, rarer stuff in the most out-of-the-way ordinary shacks and houses, people would use more of the map. At present, everyone runs to police stations and military sites because they KNOW they won't find the loot they want elsewhere. That's what I would change to prevent higher-population servers becoming too crowded in a limited number of locations.

In short, no. Tents are in and persistence is switched on on selected servers, but it doesn't work properly as of now. Vehicles are in the works - first one will be a lorry. Barricading is also in the works - details are thin so far.

The steam browser runs really slowly, and Alt+Tab is possibly worse. Therefore, I use the in-game map. I like that you can still hear what's going on around you while using it, and I like the speed of opening and closing it - this puts it above the external maps in terms of functionality, for me. I also find the topographical detail makes it easier to recognise where you are and navigate without a compass. Personally, I wouldn't want to be told what loot is where, anyway. I'm hoping they randomise it before full release.

fire adveture is stop before finish

Agreed. Server restarts/crashes are the single biggest factor that reduces the enjoyment of playing DayZ in its current state. Working persistence and loot respawn is really going to tie a lot of things together and make it feel like a "game". Can't wait. -
Gas stove + canister is a very portable and effective alternative to carrying all the various shit you need for making fires - and probably easier to find.

There are different reasons for being unconscious in DayZ - it's not just an arbitrary condition. I may not have this exactly right, but as far as I understand it a defibrillator is for stabilizing an irregular heartbeat. You check their pulse and if it's irregular, you can use the defib on them; then feed them up, give them a blood transfusion, saline or epipen to try and speed up their recovery so they wake up. I think if you use an epipen on someone with an irregular heartbeat, you kill them. Similarly, if you defib someone with a normal heartbeat, it can fuck them up. Something like that.

1. You'd never EVER ditch your flashlight. 2. Boots and socks. Your feet hurt = you can't move = you're fucked. 3. Matches. Try lighting a fire without them: bugger that. 4. The warmest hat you can find. 5. Food. ANYTHING you could find that was edible, you'd take (or eat on the spot). 6. Waterproofs 7. You'd certainly make room for a gun if you found one. 8. KNIFE! 9. Rope/string/twine of any kind would always be useful. Wouldn't turn down duct tape either. 10. Blankets. Why aren't these in DayZ yet? -
DAYZ Survival Times - How long do you think a fresh spawn should be able to live before dying of each condition?
pillock replied to roninhg's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you'd die of hunger after x amount of time. You'd just grind to a halt through exhaustion. You wouldn't suddenly fall unconscious and never wake up. I'm assuming DayZ is going to fix this somewhere down the line, so I haven't voted. -
Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
pillock replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I hope that some level "lore" is indicated in the game as clues that players can discover - maybe a tourist guide book, and some old newspapers lying about; perhaps some grafitti and other physical clues. Nothing too specific, but clues we can speculate on. It's add to the experience if you could go some way to finding out what happened. (I wouldn't expect it to be implemented until full release time though.) -

It bothers my authenticity-o-meter somewhat that you can 'pack up' a used fireplace, stuff it inside a hoodie, then stuff that into the pockets of your jeans.

Chernarus has a history, within the Arma2 universe. It is written on the page linked by Ceallach earlier in this thread (quoted below). Here is a bit of it: So it's not in Europe at all, really. My history is a little hazy, but it sounds more like the Caucasus region to me. Takistan, presumably a Muslim country, lies to west of it, with Russia itself to the north. DayZ already diverges slightly from Arma2 in terms of Chernarus's layout (therefore contradicting some of the descriptions of the place's past), but I have read a few times that the developers do regard the two games as somewhat sharing the same fictional world and background. -
I dislike using out-of-game resources like maps. Besides, the in-game map is more user-friendly. When you find a map piece that's spawned as loot, the view when you first look at it is always centred on that location, so you instantly know where you are. Similarly, a map in your inventory centres itself on your current location when you first log into a server. So once you have the in-game map, it's pretty difficult to get lost unless you do it on purpose. (I actually think using this method feels like a bit of a cheat, and should be removed at some point - maybe so it centres the view on some random location instead.) In combination with the compass, it's pretty easy to navigate, even if you don't recognise places through experience. If I don't have a compass, I'll use the sun - which is roughly in the south, I believe - or identify terrain features around me and compare them with the map. I remember it being an enjoyable challenge to figure out where I was and where I wanted to go using only in-game assets, before I'd played the game enough to recognise the towns by sight - using a combination of roadsigns, the map and the Russian Cheat Sheet book. I kind of miss the fact that I don't need them so much any more.

If DayZ does indeed follow Arma II's history, then Chernarus is in the Black Sea / Caspian Sea region. Because it says so itself.
