Oh I'd love to make it happen... Have they said anything specific about modding? I know you can host your own servers, but beyond that...??

DayZ is an awesome sandbox game, but I'm concerned that just running around and gearing up a character is going to get old after a while... WHAT IF you could sign onto a special server that was running a special scenario? I've put down a few ideas below. But to make them work, you might need to tweak how the game behaves on these servers. For example, perhaps no respawns? The server populates the map with X many weapons, backpacks, foodstuff, etc and that's it. Or perhaps the characters never really log out... You're stuck on that server until you either die or quit (and imagine if your character still burned energy and water while they slept...) Or Zombie bites are way more infectious, or the servers are locked an hour after game start to keep folks from hopping in later... Here are some ideas for scenarios: Last man standing. Be the last survivor out of X many players. By any means necessary. 14-Day Nightmare. You must survive 14 days with no respawns. The server randomly generates gear, food, wildlife, berries, zombies (lots and lots of zombies) at the kickoff of the scenario and that's it. You must figure out how to survive for 14 days. Russian Invasion. Play as either one of 80 survivors starting as fresh spawns or one of 20 Russian troops, fully geared, with orders to kill everyone on the island. Give the survivors a can of beans to start, but give the soldiers weapons, gear, ammo and even working vehicles and night-vision gear to start. Escape. The goal is to build a working radio tower out of materials and parts you find on the island, broadcast a signal, and get picked up by a helicopter. Before you get eaten by zombies, die of starvation, or killed by another player... But why do this to yourself, you ask? One, for the challenge of it, two, for something new, and three, perhaps for the bragging rights? Was thinking that as a reward for winning or completing a scenario your account gets access to a special tattoo that you can display on all future characters, showing that your a badass and all that. And if you really want to get into tattoos, you could have one for doing a scenario "cleanly" and another for doing is a bit on the "bloody" side. If you know what I mean... :-) Anyways, give it some thought and please, no knee-jerk flames. I'm not advocating we do this across ALL servers, just a few special ones.

Only if its a name tag on their pack or a name on their camo jacket.

This Game is Being Advertised as an MMO Right? Char Bound to Server.

Easy fix for server hopping. Once per 24 hours. That's it. Unless your server crashes, then you get a free reset. Otherwise either go explore or wait. -
I like it... You could go another step and get a tiny little bonus based on your background. Like +5% run speed for an athlete or +10% max health for a soldier, or start full and not starving (aka slightly overweight) as a gamer guy... :-)

awesome idea!

I like it. Might even help with the server hopping problem. Maybe even go one step further and put MORE loot in high-pop servers..? Just a thought...

Just a thought... Think we need a "good" condition in between pristine and worn. Just sayin...

5 min cooldown for switching servers is way to little

Well, folks want to gear their new characters so they can run out and go pvp asap. I think... Besides logout timers, here are a few ideas (not all mine, but some are): 1 - Create "army field camps" that spawn in a handful of a dozen or two dozen possible locations on the map. They have awesome loot, but they're not in the same place from server to server so it's next to impossible to just hop. Players actually have to go out and look for them. 2 - When someone logs out, they come back in a nearby field outside of town. No more hopping from barracks to barracks. 3 - Safes and lockers that require tools to open. Tools wear out. After 4-5 hops your bolt cutter or lockpick set are ruined and you've got to go back into a town to find a new one. 4 - Have military zombies drop loot. Make them tough and fast and hit hard, but you can get gear by dropping them. Oh, and make it so you can't axe them (kevlar helmets maybe?) so you have to use guns, which alert other players to your presence. 5 - Instead of a 5 minute wait to log in, make it so a character stands still in the server for 5 minutes before he disappears. Eve Online used something like this to great effect to discourage combat logging. Could have an exception where if you're 500m away from any buildings or loot spawn points you just log out safely. Anyways a few ideas. Apologies for any spelling or grammar mistakes. Kinda late for me... -
Love the blood trail idea. Helps against combat loggers too. I got two hits on a guy in firefight the other night, but he ducked around a house and I lost him. We think he logged inside the house before anyone could get in there, but we're not sure. A blood trail would have been awesome!

Agree 100% with the OP.

I just killed my first innocent survivor... And I feel terrible.

This is just a beautiful game. On day 2 of my adventures last week I ran into a wounded guy who was bleeding and being chased by a zombie. He was yelling "shoot him shoot him shoot him" but i only had a shotgun and one round of ammo, so i pulled my axe and killed the zombie. The guy (sounded like a teenage kid) was so grateful he kept thanking me and asking me if i needed anything and just wouldn't shut up. I didn't have my mic set up so i just turned to jog away and he says "ok i'll just follow you then." I stopped, thought about it for a second and was like "wrong answer dude" so I pulled my shotgun and shot him in the chest from 5 paces. He fell flat on his face. So I looted him and moved on. True story. -
Had an interesting experience the other day... The server glitched or I desynched or it reset or something and I was frozen in place for a second or two. Next thing i know a zombie just materializes about 5 feet in front of me swinging and screaming. Absolutely zero warning. Made me jump and panic-pull my 45. Totally cool. Was wondering if you could have a type of zombie that hid out in bushes or behind doors and stayed hidden and quiet until a player got really close..?

Premium loot -- A balanced proposal to "gearing up"
solartrix replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
I like it. It adds a level of realism to the game and makes it more interesting. You could have: 1 - Padlocks on lockers which can be picked, hack-sawed or cut with bolt-cutters - and such tools wear out after a few uses. 2 - Locked doors on houses and desks/cabinets within houses which have to be forced open with a crowbar, fireman's ax or opened with lock picks. 3 - Chained and padlocked gates which provide tactical short-cuts to teams with bolt cutters or hacksaws or lock picks. 4 - Locked cells in the prisons... 5 - Zombies that have been handcuffed to fences or locked inside houses you can let loose to cause more mayhem... :-) Lots of fun with this. -
Had this same idea... glad i searched. Was thinking that instead of repairing your clothes, you could make them wear out a little slower with duct tape. Basically, keep something that's damaged from becoming badly damaged and something that's bd'd from becoming ruined. Maybe extend the life x2 with duct tape.
