For the good of the game

The WTW? and BFB clan have been in the walls of the Bolota jails every day for the last three days. If you don't like glitchers just hop on the WTW clan server and you can kill your fill.
  2. There is a group of 5-6 guys on the OrcZ.com server in Elektro glitched into the back of the church and the bottom floor of the red house on the corner by the hospital. Maybe an admin will see this and kick them or maybe we can get some community justice? Idk

    Exploiters on OrcZ server

I did, I'm just putting it out there for anyone that feels more strongly about it than I
  4. Happened across 4 guys at Bolota when my friends and I came to loot it, I killed one and the server reset 10 seconds afterwards. I was a little frustrated but thought it might have been chance so we all rejoined afterwards. Killed another guy and the server reset 10 seconds later. My jimmies are totally rustled now. Join in after reset, take shots at the two remaining guys but they're 800+ yards away and moving so I'm not expecting much. The server resets. This happens over and over for about 20 minutes until the remaining player (the server owner) runs off into the woods. Its easier if you just watch for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rM-yH3HMsc&feature=youtu.be The server: Laydown's Love Hut 173.199.94.30:2302 How do I report this server and get it taken down. The actions of the server owner are in clear violation of the terms of use.
  5. aeoliana

How do I report this abuse?

Oh look, he renamed the server to 24/7 Night | I'm pregnant | Don't hurt my baby
  6. aeoliana

    Does BattleEye work?

Cuz I just died to 4 kids moving as fast as cars firing pistols that don't run out of ammo

    Is this on the radar?

Hello! I want to preface this by saying that I understand gunfights are not the main focus DayZ, that being said you will inevitably encounter a situation in which you are required to use a gun to defend either your own life or the life of your companions. In DayZ, death is final, dying means I lose the entirety of the time I've spent on this version of my character. Keeping yourself alive is your number one priority and versus other players, weapons are more often than not your only means to do so. This is fine by me, I play shooters competitively so I was under the impression I would be at an advantage when it came to these life or death exchanges. I was wrong. How many times have I shot someone while clearing a building, only to have them turn, shoot, and fall over dead, seconds after I have stopped firing? How many times have I seen someone running inside a building doing an animation loop where they run through the side of the building over and over? How many times have I watched my friends climb stairs by walking through them on ground level and suddenly teleporting to the top? How many times have I died as a guy with an m4 comes running out of cover and I can't shoot him because he is rubber banding over and over to his position behind cover? I don't understand it when I see posts from the developers saying that 'the netcode is robust enough to support 200 player servers'. If the 'netcode' can't support a single player reliably I don't care if it can support 200 with the issues it has now. I don't want more guns, clothes, zombies or base building - I want a combat system that works. Why? Because none of these things matter so long as I lack the means to reliably defend them. If I'm going to lose everything I have I want it to be because I failed, not because of a glitch in the game. I understand that the game is in alpha so I try to grin and bear it but it seems like these issues aren't even on the radar. Are these bugs going to be addressed? When I read the interview that was on kotaku the other day it really sounded like the developer thought the networking code was done and all that was left was adding content and polish. Is this the case?
  8. How does it feel to have your group of 6 wiped out by 1 guy with an m4. You shouldn't have left me for dead. After I woke up, I fixed my broken legs and served out some vengeance.
  9. I run DayZ on my MacBook when I'm not at home (Geforce GT 750M and an Intel i7-4850HQ) and haven't had any overheating issues. As far as the noise goes... get a headset?

To the pantless bandits on the LLJK server

Several fashionable cowboy hats and some rice!

To the pantless bandits on the LLJK server

I'm just hoping they see it and get even angrier than they sounded in direct chat.
  12. aeoliana

Why did he just sit down?

Unless I'm missing something I don't see you outwitting anyone here... You admittedly got lucky to have him right in front of you when you spawned in. You then took 3 shots at an incredibly easy distance and missed one of them. You displayed neither skill nor cunning so what are you getting off on? I'm not saying killing the guy was wrong. In my opinion, if you're running around recklessly you're asking to get shot. On the other hand if you're a sniper camping the same spot killing people that don't even know you are there, you aren't talented, you're shooting fish in a barrel. I would put money on this guy being a 'sniper' so long as no one is returning fire. As soon as he hears shots nearby he probably runs behind some trees on sniper hill and logs out. It takes longer than 30 seconds to run up the hill so he can come back later once they've given up looking.
  13. If I am holding a pistol in my hands that is stored in my inventory in my pants, it should not break when I am shot in the leg. I have died several times when the pistol I am holding became unable to fire due to the clothing it was stored in getting ruined as a result of a shot taken during the fight. Seems like this would be a relatively simple improvement to implement.
  14. aeoliana

Pistols in hands should not be ruined when shot

I'm not familiar with the object model for the ArmA engine, but something like the following would be the basic idea (while iterating bag contents and damaging them) if (player.held_item == null || items.item_id != player.held_item.item_id) items.set_quality(quality.ruined)
  15. But can someone tell me why 3PP is a thing? I mean... I use it... but I feel like a cheater the whole time. I don't wanna get yelled at or told to go play hardcore, all I want is someone to give me a reason why it exists in DayZ (where the tagline is immersion and realism). Somebody make a case for 3PP so I can understand! :(

I'm not trying to start a war

You've restored my faith somewhat haha, thank you for actually responding to what I was asking! I agree that the 1PP view is somewhat limited when it comes to being aware of your environment and that 3PP is less claustrophobic. Although I'm of the belief that the limited vision adds tension, like I've almost shit my pants on hardcore servers when a zombie suddenly screams in my ear from a foot behind me. It doesn't happen in 3PP servers. Yes, there are segregated servers, but there are fewer hardcore servers than normal and characters don't transfer. I guess there's not much I can say about this one yes, someone that wants to play 1PP only can do so, but they seem like a 2nd class citizen. I'm sure its true that it has attracted more users due to its 3PP support, but when I see everyone bragging about how the game is so hardcore and not casual friendly is that really a good thing? I suppose since theres no subscription the one time buy is all they're after but I would hope a cohesive experience would be a higher priority than a quick buck. Er, I like you man, but I'm not going to get into this. We just seem to be talking about different things right now. A game is more than its engine, and just because a game uses an engine does not mean it needs to use every feature of that engine. Yes, sadly the badge of most indie-gone-viral type games. At some point you need come up with a singular vision for a game and try to only pursue those things that work towards supporting it. Although, has he come out and said he left 3PP in because he wants it in? I wonder if thats true. Anyways, in regards to 'beyond my ability or skillset' I'm happy to come ruin your day in whatever difficulty setting you'd like. I assure you I can hack it :) Beyond that, I don't really have much to say to you as you seem to be making huge leaps and assumptions. I'm not sure where you felt I had a crybaby or whining tone, I never once complained about other players using it and said I even use it myself. My argument was simply that it doesn't seem to jive with the rest of the game. It does create some good eye candy for marketing though.

I'm not trying to start a war

It wasn't an argument for how the DayZ experience/ideals are augmented by 3PP or what 3PP does for the DayZ experience that makes the potential for exploitation an acceptable tradeoff. However it was a well written argument for why 3PP is a good idea in games in general and why it exists in the ArmA franchise. I've ignored or dismissed every knee jerk reaction that offered up a brief sentence or word as sufficient evidence of a topic that is much more complicated than the response. I belittled a fellow who decided it was time to ignore the topic and move on to something unrelated in the hopes that exposing some inconsistency with my behavior somehow validates his own opinion. Please direct me to an answer that specifically addresses 3PP and how it positively effects DayZ (in a way that is unique to the DayZ experience). Not just quoting wikipedia or the generic benefits of 3PP. See first quote

I'm not trying to start a war

There is a difference between 'make an argument for 3PP' and 'make an argument for 3PP in DayZ'
  19. aeoliana

I'm not trying to start a war

The first two quotes are the only things you've offered up as answers. They are by no means clear and none of them are actually complete answers. Please direct me to where, in either post, you used DayZ to support anything you said. As far as the most recent one, how is it hypocritical? Considering I even started this post saying I use 3PP? More importantly how does any of this show I have a 'lack of understanding of this topic'? You're pulling facts out of thin air. You really can't formulate a coherent thought when pressed can you? I need to stop expecting real discussions on forums.

I'm not trying to start a war

Rather than answer anything I've asked you choose to attack things I've said in the past. As if evidence of me using something that's not realistic somehow discredits anything that I've said. Its called ad hominem I suggest you familiarize yourself with it. I haven't ignoring any points, I have asked for answers/opinions that apply to this specific context not the world of video games at large. Not really looking for an answer, I'm looking for a discussion on why 3PP should exist in DayZ using DayZ as context, not video games in general.

I'm not trying to start a war

I use mumble because there is no satisfactory method of communication. I can't whisper to my friend, I can't use hand symbols to say 'halt', 'tactical withrdrawal', 'enemy ahead' or anything like that. As soon as that is introduced I will be all for dropping external comms. Please though, lets have a debate here, I know its hard when you've got nothing to say but attacking your opponent personally is the signature of a politician, not an intellectual.

I'm not trying to start a war

The lack of peripheral vision in video games is only a minor impediment as it can be compensated for with practiced mouse movements and directional sound. In the real word changes in depth play a much larger role in detecting changes in your environment than does peripheral vision. Depth is something both 1PP and 3PP lack. So would you say that not having peripheral vision, which can be compensated for, is a bigger break from reality than being able to see through walls and around corners? There is no situation in which a player with 1PP can gain an advantage over another by exploiting the vision mechanics whereas moving to a location from which you can watch another player but they cannot watch you is commonplace in 3PP. It confuses me why a system which gives one player an advantage over another through meta-knowledge would be allowed to exist. You aren't performing an action in a simulation, you are taking advantage of the system that performs the simulation and is in no way any different than server hopping or hiding in walls. Can anyone give me a reason why other than that 'Rocket wants it', 'Its been there and it will stay there', and 'I like it go play hardcore'? Give me a reason and context in the world of DayZ and its principles.

Does no one read? Anyways, achieving as realistic an experience as possible while still remaining palatable to a reasonable number of users is a big part of what drives content for this game. I don't really get what you're saying.

How is 1PP not realism? Its the closest you can get without a 180 degree monitor? This isn't combative, I am asking you to explain why you think 1PP is not realistic.
